Chapter 385 Nolan's Miserable Day
At Ethan's place.
Nolan, with a gloomy face, leaned against the car door, checking the time, wondering why Jasmine and Ethan hadn't returned yet.
At this moment, he still didn't know that Jasmine was his biological sister, as the news hadn't spread yet, and Cordelia and Edward hadn't informed Nolan.
"Jasmine!" Nolan shouted unhappily when he saw Jasmine getting out of the car.
Confused, Jasmine thought Nolan was there to talk to her as her brother and quickly hid behind Ethan.
"Why did you block me?" Nolan was angry. "I approved your sick leave to reflect at home; what do you mean by blocking me?"
It was the first time Nolan had been blocked by his own assistant, and he couldn't stand the anger.
Jasmine was very displeased and suddenly felt empowered. "I'm willing! I dislike you."
Nolan took a deep breath in frustration. "Jasmine, it seems like you're starting to not take me seriously."
Ethan watched the unfolding scene with amusement, anticipating a family dinner at the Cunninghams'. He couldn't wait to see Nolan's reactions - it was sure to be a spectacle. "How's the reflection been going?" Nolan asked, trying to keep his cool and give himself an out. Since Jasmine wasn't around, Nolan had a pile of messy work that no one was handling.
Indeed, Nolan admitted that Jasmine's workability was unmatched so far.
He had gotten used to having her around, and it would be really hard to replace her.
"Publicly apologize to me, and then I'll consider coming back." Jasmine's palms were sweaty and nervous, but she could now confront Nolan with confidence. "Oh, and you need to give me a raise, or I won't return."
Nolan was shocked. Was Jasmine out of her mind?
Asking for a raise was one thing, but demanding a public apology from Nolan?
What had he done wrong to warrant a public apology?
"I see you haven't reflected well at all. Being with Ethan has made you arrogant! Keep reflecting!" With that, Nolan got into his car and angrily slammed the door shut.
Once Nolan had driven off, Ethan and Jasmine exchanged glances. Ethan couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Jasmine also found the situation amusing, and she cried. "Nolan treats me so poorly. I don't like him. I prefer Edward and Richard as my brothers."
Ethan hugged her. "Alright, we won't forgive him."
Jasmine nodded.
Meanwhile, not far from there, Nolan had a bad feeling, sensing that something unpleasant was about to happen.
"Mr. Cunningham!" Eric called. "You need to see the news! Annabelle is in the headlines again."
Nolan frowned. He had just reminded Annabelle to be mindful of her reputation a few days ago, and now this negative news had surfaced. It was impossible to hide it any longer!
"Cordelia, your mother, faced the reporters and publicly admitted that the paternity test results for Annabelle were false. Annabelle is not the daughter of the Cunningham family."
Nolan slammed on the brakes, stopping by the roadside. He hung up and checked the news.
Sure enough, reporters were broadcasting live, with Cordelia admitting that Annabelle was not the daughter of the Cunningham family.
Nolan's breathing hitched, his face darkening as he called Edward.
Edward didn't answer.
He called Edgar, who was out speeding.
"You heartless bastard!" Nolan cursed, feeling irritated as he leaned back in his seat, rubbing his temples.
Annabelle wasn't the daughter of the Cunningham family?
His mother had kept this from him?
Why would she hide it from him? Had she just found out today?
Thinking back on Edward's previous behaviors, Nolan felt a chill run down his spine.
Just as Nolan was about to head to the Bellagio Hotel to get some answers, a traffic officer pulled up and stopped him. "Get out, you're parked illegally."
Nolan felt like nothing was going his way lately. Was he cursed with bad luck?
With a grim expression, he got out of the car and rubbed his temples. "Officer, I know I was wrong. I'm willing to pay the fine, but I'm in a hurry..."
"No, our goal is education first, fines second. If you don't follow traffic rules and park wherever you want, you'll have to volunteer at the intersection for thirty minutes to help with traffic control," the officer said firmly,
Nolan was shocked.
What? Did he hear that right?
The president of the Cunningham Group like him, volunteered on the street to direct traffic?
"No, officer, look, isn't that car also parked illegally?" Nolan pointed to a pink sports car nearby.
The officer nodded. "Indeed, you have a companion today."
So, the officer called the woman who had parked illegally on the roadside.
Amelia had just hung up and got out of the car, rubbing her hands together and bowing cutely. "Officer, I didn't mean to; I know it's unsafe to drive and talk on the phone; I just wanted to pull over."
"Please."
"No, you can't." The officer gestured a refusal. "You'll have to volunteer at the intersection for twenty-five minutes to help with traffic control."
Nolan was shocked. "Why does she get twenty-five minutes, and I have to do thirty?"
"You're a man; she's a young girl," the officer said, handing Nolan and Amelia each a safety vest and directing them to the sidewalk to volunteer.
Amelia finally recognized Nolan's face and felt a bit familiar.
Nolan also noticed Amelia and pointed at her. "It's you!"
Amelia pointed back at Nolan. "It's you! The male escort who stayed at the hotel!"
Nolan felt a chill run down his spine. He felt like he wanted to kill someone.
This was a public street!
Nolan instantly felt the odd looks from the police officers.
He raised his hand to cover Amelia's mouth and forced a smile. "Let's go direct traffic."
His phone rang; it was Edward calling.
Nolan gritted his teeth. If Edward didn't explain things to him, he would lose it tonight.
"Ethan, there's a family dinner tonight; Mom has something to announce."
"Edward, you better explain things to me clearly," Nolan said each word deliberately,
"Ethan, calm down, I just found out too," Edward replied cunningly,
"It's better to be!"
The Bellagio Hotel.
Annabelle, pale and trembling, collapsed into a chair with flushed cheeks and numbed limbs.
How could this have happened?
It was impossible, absolutely impossible.
When did Cordelia find out?
How was it possible...
Cordelia had known for a while?
Why did she not notice before?
William, angered, stormed off, ignoring Annabelle.
Sophia shot Annabelle a venomous look. "Fool!"
After her outburst, she also departed.
Annabelle clenched her fists tightly, her eyes red-rimmed.
It was not possible! She won't lose, absolutely not!
"Annabelle," the Harper couple rushed in, weeping as they tried to console her. "Annabelle, what happened? How did you get caught?"
"I have no idea!" Annabelle's emotions were beginning to fray.
Everything lately seemed to be targeting Annabelle, definitely not by chance.
There were too many people assisting Jasmine!
"You wretch! I refuse to accept this; I refuse!" Annabelle screamed madly,
"What are you shouting for? We haven't lost yet!" Thomson spoke heavily, "The priority now is to handle the public opinion storm, blame the Cunningham family's misinterpretation. What does it have to do with us? Remember, you are still daughter-in-law of the Douglas family! With just this identity alone, we are strong enough!"
"Yes, Dad, you're right. I am still Daniel's wife; that cannot be changed. The Douglas family will always be tied to me!" Annabelle smirked coldly. She wouldn't give up; she absolutely would not!
"Prepare yourself for the event tonight; attend the socialite banquet as planned. The more assertive you appear, the fewer criticisms there will be. The fault lies with the Cunningham family! We need a public apology from them!" Thomson spoke gravely,
"Yes, I will attend the socialite banquet. Isn't the Cunningham family trying to mend ties with the Hawthornes? Well, I will make sure they don't succeed!" Annabelle spoke angrily.
