Chapter 593: Claire and Howard's Fierce Battle
Claire kept dragging Daniel to the Raymond Group, trying to get Brandon to help Daniel snag some shares in the Douglas Group.
"Mr. Russell, check this out, Daniel and I have been here a bunch of times," Claire said, flashing a smile and handing over some info from those confidential docs to Brandon. "This is some valuable stuff. Look, my sincerity is right here."
Brandon gave Claire a knowing look, grinning as he took the USB drive and plugged it into his computer.
His eyes darkened, and he faked surprise as he looked at Claire, then smirked and said, "Mrs. Douglas, you really are a lifesaver."
Those companies were rivals of the Raymond Group, and Claire had definitely put in some serious effort.
"Mr. Russell, about the contract with the Douglas Group?" Claire asked, trying to sound casual.
"No problem, I can agree to cancel it," Brandon said, acting all generous.
Claire beamed. "You're so wise. Long-term benefits over short-term gains, right? So, about that contract, you will..."
Brandon grinned. "Don't worry, I'll handle it personally."
Claire nodded. "That's awesome. Tomorrow's the Douglas Group's internal board meeting. If you have time..."
"I'll definitely be there," Brandon nodded.
Claire stood up, smiling, and left with Daniel, feeling pretty good about herself.
Brandon sneered.
Let her be happy for one more day.
Outside the Raymond Group, a few people were lurking in the shadows, watching Claire and Daniel leave.
As they got to their car, an attacker rushed at them. Daniel quickly disarmed him and kicked him away. Claire, freaked out, fell to the ground screaming.
The commotion quickly drew security.
Daniel dropped the stick, still breathing heavily, and looked at Claire. "Mom, you okay?"
Claire, scared and pissed, got up. "Howard! Don't push us too far!"
Daniel's face was a mix of emotions as he sighed.
How did their family end up like this?
Howard left the company, switched cars halfway, and arrived at the Oceanview Blue Estate, a fancy apartment under the Douglas family. He got out of the car and headed inside.
A middle-aged woman in a white dress looked at him gently. "Howard, why are you back so early today?"
Howard smiled. "I want to come back early to see you."
The woman blushed and lowered her eyes, stepping forward to hug Howard's arm.
Suddenly, someone rushed out from the shadows with a knife, aiming to stab Howard.
The woman reacted first, pushing Howard away in a panic. "Howard, watch out!"
The woman shielded Howard, and the knife plunged directly into her abdomen, blood instantly staining her white dress.
Howard, terrified, held the woman, frantically shouting for help, "Someone, help!"
The woman, also scared, clutched her stomach, looking at Howard. "Howard, it hurts so much."
"It's okay, it's okay, Leah, you'll be fine. I'll take you to the hospital right away," Howard said in a panic, holding Leah and intending to go to the hospital.
Leah's voice was hoarse. "If I die, please take care of Bradley."
Howard shook his head. "Don't talk nonsense, you'll be fine."
At Ethan's place, Jasmine had put the kids to bed while Ethan worked remotely from the sofa.
"Howard and Claire both had incidents today. They got into a fight," Brandon called.
"Who got the worst of it?" Ethan asked, not really caring.
Brandon replied coldly, "Howard's guys spared Claire but messed up Daniel pretty bad. Howard went all out against his own son. But Howard didn't get off easy; Claire's ruthless moves led her people to accidentally kill Howard's mistress, Bradley's mom, who he just brought back from Maple Grove."
Ethan frowned. "Dead?"
"Yeah, bled out, couldn't be saved."
Ethan took a deep breath.
"Howard's lost it. Next, he's probably gonna completely break with Claire," Brandon said, everything going according to plan.
Ethan's long-planned revenge was both physical and psychological.
Ethan sneered. "They're not fighting hard enough. Tomorrow, we'll give them a little push."
Brandon chuckled. "Can't wait to see your performance tomorrow, Ethan."
Jasmine came out of the bedroom, seeing Ethan still busy. She washed some fruit and sat beside him. "Something happen?"
"Want to come to the Douglas Group with me tomorrow?" Ethan asked, wanting her to see the drama unfold.
"Sure," Jasmine said, wanting to be by his side. "Don't worry, I'm here for you."
Ethan nodded. "Even if I lose everything, I still have my wife to support me."
Jasmine cupped Ethan's face and spoke seriously, "No matter what, you still have me."
The next afternoon at the Douglas Group, Claire, looking pale with tape on her face, and Daniel, with his arm in a cast, walked into the meeting room.
On the other side, Howard didn't look much better, his face dark and eyes red.
Ethan sat in his seat, trying not to laugh at the sight.
Jasmine sat beside Ethan, quietly observing the tense atmosphere. If looks could kill, Claire and Howard would have offed each other by now.
"Ethan, Daniel, as we discussed, you need to get the Raymond Group to cancel the contract within the stipulated time. Has this been achieved?" the vice president asked.
"Of course, Mr. Russell said he'd come personally, and he should be here any moment," Claire sneered, looking at Howard and deliberately adding, "Howard, you promised the kids, don't back out now."
The board members chimed in, "Rest assured, since the chairman has already said it, not only do we have a written contract, but we are also witnesses. There will be no going back."
This left Howard with no choice. As long as Brandon agreed to cancel the contract, Howard would have to hand over the shares.
Howard seemed confident, glancing at Bradley sitting beside him.
Bradley kept his head down, wearing a black suit with a white flower on his arm, clearly still grieving his mom's loss.
Brandon had promised both Claire and Howard, so both were confident that Brandon would side with them, making the other's plan fail.
Unfortunately, they didn't know that this was all orchestrated by Ethan.
"Mr. Russell is here," the assistant announced, bringing Brandon into the room.
Brandon smiled, letting the assistant and lawyer bring out the contract. "I do think the contract with the Douglas Group is quite detrimental to your interests, so I'm here today to terminate it."
The board members sighed in relief, and the vice president stood up to greet him. "Mr. Russell, you are truly young and capable, with great vision."
Brandon sat down, looking at Howard and Claire.
"Mr. Russell, are you here to cancel the contract for which heir?" the vice president asked quietly.
He was asking if Brandon was here for Bradley, Daniel, or Ethan.
This was crucial to the Douglas Group's succession issue.
