Chapter 922 Liam Schemes Against Vincent and Gets Injured

Soon, she received a reply: [Roger that. Proceed as planned.]

Selene responded with an OK gesture.

Vincent sat on the bench, watching her coldly. "You're up."

Selene snapped back to attention and limped into the treatment room.

After the doctor treated her wound, Selene launched into her performance. "Doctor, I've heard that internal injuries from accidents often don't show up for days. I'm dizzy, my head hurts, everything hurts. I need tests. I need to be admitted."

Vincent frowned. She was clearly planning to extort him.

"Any other pain anywhere?" the doctor asked.

Selene rolled her eyes dramatically and collapsed onto the bed. "I feel nauseous. Everything hurts."

The doctor quickly tried to calm her. "Don't panic. I'll call Dr. William."

The young doctor rushed out and called for Ryan, who was on duty.

"Dr. William, we have a serious accident victim complaining of nausea and dizziness," he called out.

Ryan entered wearing a mask, examined Selene, and noted that she claimed pain wherever he pressed.

With years of ER experience, Ryan could tell Selene was faking.

"Well... where did you pick this one up?" Ryan asked Vincent meaningfully.

"Found her on the street," Vincent replied in a low voice.

"Better leave your contact information. The patient is worried you might disappear if complications arise later," Ryan suggested, making the decision for Vincent.

"Yes, exactly!" Selene's eyes lit up. "What if you run off?"

Vincent looked at his assistant. "Give her your number. If anything happens—"

"Absolutely not!" Selene interrupted sharply. "My head is killing me, and you're trying to pawn me off on your assistant? What kind of unreliable, irresponsible man are you?" She berated Vincent. "Let me tell you, a man needs to take responsibility. Good looks mean nothing without accountability."

Vincent took a deep breath and spoke through gritted teeth. "What exactly do you want? If it's money, name your price."

"I'm hungry," Selene said quietly.

She was genuinely hungry.

Vincent instantly felt murderous.

"Hey now, your driver hit her. The least you can do is buy her something to eat," Ryan intervened, diffusing the tension. "The test results will take some time anyway. She needs to eat first."

"What do you want?" Vincent asked tersely.

"Tacos," Selene replied sheepishly.

"What?" Vincent frowned.

"Pizza would work too," Selene mumbled.

Vincent inhaled deeply. "Go get her food."

His assistant nodded and hurried out.

Where was he supposed to find tacos at this hour?

When Vincent's assistant left, Selene smiled secretly.

Soon, Vincent received a message that his assistant had scraped someone's car while out buying tacos. The other driver was being difficult, and the assistant couldn't get away.

Meanwhile, Selene's test results came back normal.

But Selene insisted her head hurt and asked Vincent to take her home.

Vincent was now curious about Selene's game. Such a clumsy scheme—getting his assistant out of the way—what was she planning?

"Fine, I'll take you home, but we don't have a car now," Vincent said with a smile.

"We'll take a taxi. You're paying," Selene waved dismissively.

Vincent nodded, hailed a cab, and let Selene get in.

Selene suddenly felt uneasy. He'd been furious a moment ago—why was he so agreeable now?

Vincent took the taxi with her to her rental apartment.

To reach it, they had to walk through a long, dark alley that looked intimidating.

"Walk me through, please? I'm scared," Selene carefully tugged at Vincent's arm.

Vincent said nothing, walking forward coldly.

Selene narrowed her eyes and led Vincent into the alley.

As soon as they entered, a shadowy figure rushed at them with a large sack, attempting to capture Vincent.

Vincent dodged, and the sack ended up over Selene instead.

When the attacker tried to hit Vincent with a club, Vincent grabbed it and kicked the man away.

Vincent's eyes turned vicious, filled with murderous intent.

He'd known Selene was just bait.

Raising the club, Vincent prepared to deliver a deadly blow.

Then he recognized the man groaning on the ground as Liam and hesitated.

Liam cowered on the ground. "Fuck, Vincent, are you even human? You kicked the shit out of me!"

Vincent frowned. Liam? This idiot was playing ambush games in the middle of the night? He was lucky not to end up as a corpse for Ethan to collect.

"Do you have a death wish?" Vincent threatened.

Liam cowered, covering his head. "Fuck, you stole my project! Can't I beat you up for that?"

Selene emerged from the sack, shocked to see five or six shadowy figures surrounding them—now armed with knives.

"This wasn't in the script!" Selene was bewildered. "Hey! What's with the knives?"

Liam had only talked about putting someone in a sack and roughing them up—not knife attacks.

Liam looked equally confused at the newcomers. "Who are you people? I didn't hire anyone else!"

Vincent sighed. How had Ethan kept this idiot around for so many years?

"Get up!" Vincent barked.

Liam scrambled to his feet, nervously watching the knife-wielding men closing in. "What are you doing? I'm calling the police!"

The men ignored him and lunged with their knives.

"Murder! They're trying to kill us!" Liam and Selene screamed.

Vincent, annoyed by their shrieking, punched one attacker and quickly dodged the others.

There were four or five trained attackers—challenging enough for Vincent alone, let alone while protecting two liabilities.

Just then, the leader seized an opportunity and tried to stab Vincent from behind.

Selene quickly rushed forward and hugged Vincent, nearly taking the knife in her back. "Watch out! He's trying to kill you!"

Vincent grabbed Selene by the collar and stepped back, irritated by her clinging to him. "Why are you hugging me if he's trying to kill us? Get off!"

Selene quickly let go and retreated behind Vincent.

Vincent kicked another attacker away forcefully.

Liam tried calling the police while hiding, but someone grabbed his phone, beat him, and stabbed his arm.

If not for Vincent's intervention, he would have died in that alley tonight.

Liam felt helpless—he only meant to give Vincent a little payback.

How had it turned into a knife attack?

"Police!" Fortunately, Liam had managed to call Ethan and shout their location. Hearing the commotion, Ethan had called the police.

By the time Ethan arrived, three attackers were incapacitated on the ground, two had fled, Liam was clutching his arm and wailing, and Selene was terrified, clinging to Vincent's arm and hiding behind him like a helpless burden.
