Chapter 249 Ethan Listens to Wilson's Words
Nolan turned back, his gaze settling on Wilson. Wilson, who wore glasses, looked back at him. A surge of anger rose within Nolan. "She won't meet," he declared, his tone final.
It was hard to recognize Wilson like this.
"Are you intentionally wearing these glasses to bother me?" Nolan was very angry, probably because Wilson listened too much to Ethan.
"Am I ugly? It doesn't affect my work. There are no lenses," Wilson said earnestly.
"Go check yourself in the mirror." Nolan pointed to the restroom.
Wilson muttered softly, "Ethan said I look good like this, that I look more professional."
"He's blind!" Nolan really wanted to scold Ethan.
Wilson didn't say anything.
"Hand over your work to her." Nolan rubbed his temples and let Wilson go back to work. He wanted her out of his sight, out of mind.
Ethan intentionally provoked Wilson by having her here.
Wilson became a hot topic as soon as she joined the company.
During lunchtime, when everyone was eating the staff meals, they were all discussing. Some even intentionally approached Wilson. "Hello, are you the new CEO's assistant?"
Wilson nodded.
"What's your relationship with Mr. Cunningham?" the person asked directly.
Wilson shook her head. "We don't have a relationship, we're not familiar."
The employee was skeptical and went to other tables with his tray. "Looks like we were really wrong. Just look at her clothes, so plain. Her coat is even faded, she looks like a beggar."
"I thought she was a rich girl. I even wanted to please her."
A few people whispered and commented on Wilson's attire.
Wilson didn't care and ate a few more bites.
"Newcomer, have you eaten? Go get us some coffee. We'll give you the money when you come back," Peter, the department manager, shouted at Wilson.
Wilson stood up. She thought on her first day of work, she should establish good relationships with her colleagues, so she nodded and went.
Just as Wilson left, Eric came looking for her. "Where is Wilson? She's the new assistant today."
"Do you need something?" Peter asked.
"Mr. Cunningham wanted to see her," Eric said as he furrowed his brow. "She was running around on her first day of work."
"I don't know where she went," Peter whispered, afraid that Nolan would find out that he had instructed Wilson to buy coffee.
Since Peter didn't answer, everyone else stayed silent. "We haven't seen her."
"Why was she running around on her first day?" Eric angrily walked away.
What does Wilson have that makes Nolan treat her specially?
Wilson had to run several blocks to get the coffee they wanted. When she came back, no one told her that Nolan was looking for her.
Wilson was unaware of this.
"What's wrong with you? Where were you? You shouldn't be running around during lunchtime. You're Mr. Cunningham's assistant, and you should always be at your workstation," Eric saw her and scolded her angrily.
Wilson turned to look at the person who asked her to buy coffee.
They all got their coffee as if nothing had happened. No one helped clarify the situation for her.
"I went to buy coffee for them," Wilson explained.
"Buy coffee? You're Mr. Cunningham's assistant, not theirs!" Eric scolded angrily.
Seeing Wilson hanging her head and following behind Eric, the company's employees were even more certain that she was an ordinary person without any background.
Since she was an ordinary person, they felt even more at ease and unrestrained as they continued instructing her to do things for them.
"Wilson, help us print a document and deliver it to the finance department."
"Wilson, the project department needs a document, can you deliver it?"
Wilson looked at the pile of materials on the table, furrowing her brow.
Are these people bullying her in the workplace?
Biting her lip, Wilson stood up. "These are not my responsibilities. I have my own work to do. I am Mr. Cunningham's assistant, not everyone's assistant. Thank you for understanding."
The few people who made Wilson do the work glanced at each other. "Mr. Cunningham's assistant? You just started and don't have much work. What's wrong with helping us? We are all Mr. Cunningham's employees. If you help us, you are helping Mr. Cunningham."
"Besides, it's your first day at work. Why are you acting so high and mighty and not getting along with your colleagues?"
These few people started to exclude Wilson.
Wilson didn't say anything and put the documents back on the desk.
These people became angrier when they saw Wilson's attitude. "What do you mean?"
"It's not my job," Wilson replied calmly and continued reviewing the Westing project proposal.
"What?" Gary, the humiliated project team leader, got angry. "Hey! New employee, don't you know the rules?"
"What rules?" Wilson asked in confusion.
Wilson was about to speak when Nolan came out of the conference room.
"What are you all standing around for?" Nolan frowned and asked.
Afraid that Wilson would complain first, Gary panicked and said, "Mr. Cunningham, this new assistant doesn't understand the company's regulations. I will explain it to her. She is not cooperating. We handed over the work to her, but she returned it to us."
Nolan's face darkened as he glanced at Wilson and said, "If you're so special, you better pack up and leave."
Wilson felt aggrieved and clenched her fingers.
"Mr. Cunningham, we handed over the work to her, but she claimed to be your assistant. She refused to do small tasks like printing documents," an employee muttered quietly.
"If you're an assistant, you should do the tasks assigned to you. If you can't do it, it's your responsibility," Nolan said. In his opinion, Wilson was being arrogant, thinking highly of herself because of Ethan's support.
He didn't like her behavior at all.
"Sorry, I didn't know there would be such regulations in Cunningham Enterprises, especially for such a big company. As the president's assistant, I earn only $2,000 a month, yet I have to do the entire department's work," Wilson said bravely, her eyes turning red.
She suddenly realized that ever since she was with Ethan, she no longer felt scared when being bullied. Instead, she could bravely speak up.
Nolan instantly became furious when Wilson made him lose face in front of the employees.
Other employees gloated at Wilson, waiting for Nolan to fire her.
"You think the salary is too low," Nolan said with a low voice. "How much does Stellar Enterprises pay you?"
Wilson found Nolan's way of thinking strange.
"Leo, inform the finance department to give her a raise," Nolan said. "Now, you can go do your job."
Wilson gritted her teeth and silently cursed in her heart.
Rich people were all abnormal, except for Ethan.
After Nolan went into his office, the members of the project team began mocking Wilson. "So, it was all about the money for you."
"Mr. Cunningham actually gave her a raise!"
"You're earning so much, of course, you have to work. These are all your tasks. If you can't finish them today, don't leave!" Gary stacked a lot of materials on Wilson's desk.
Wilson sniffed, feeling aggrieved, and remained silent.
Her phone rang and she looked at it and saw a message from Ethan: [Honey, Justin is with Richard today. I'm already downstairs at Cunningham Enterprises, waiting for you.].
Wilson felt aggrieved. Her work was not yet finished, and she didn't know when she would be able to leave work.
