Chapter 969 Vincent Is Done Playing Games
Selene woke up naturally the next morning. Her internal clock, trained by years of working life, had her eyes opening at exactly 6:40 AM.
Her body ached terribly. With the blackout curtains drawn tight, the room remained pitch dark, making her think it was still early. She rolled over and went back to sleep.
At that moment, Selene hadn't yet realized what had happened between them. She just felt uncomfortable all over.
She also found it difficult to move—something was weighing her down.
She hadn't registered yet that the weight was Vincent's arm.
For the first time ever, Vincent was sleeping deeply in his own home. Feeling her trying to roll away, he unconsciously pulled her back into his embrace and continued sleeping.
Though Selene looked slender, her body was surprisingly soft and pleasant to hold.
Except for her flat chest, everything about her was quite nice.
Their second sleep lasted until noon.
And Vincent was still asleep.
In that moment, Vincent realized that besides Connor's hypnotic bed, he'd found a new sleep aid: the Selene-brand cuddle pillow.
After years of never experiencing deep sleep, Vincent woke feeling completely refreshed.
But his contentment didn't last long.
A piercing scream followed by an unexpected slap across his face jolted him fully awake.
Selene shrieked as she pulled the covers up to hide herself. Looking at Vincent, whom she'd just slapped awake, she suddenly remembered getting drunk last night and everything that followed.
The more she recalled, the more horrified she became.
Had she actually been the one who initiated things with Vincent?
Vincent glared at her darkly, grabbing her ankle and pulling her toward him. "Selene, you're quite bold."
Slapping him first thing in the morning.
"You... I... we..." Selene was on the verge of tears.
"You're the one who forced me into having sex, so why are you upset?" Vincent said angrily.
Selene cried harder. "Are you still going to send me to prison?"
The prison topic clearly wasn't going away.
"I know I'm flat-chested and my body isn't great, but it's passable, right?" Selene asked quietly.
Her thought process was always surprising.
Vincent had assumed she was crying over losing her virginity.
Instead, she was worried about whether her body was adequate.
"Passable," Vincent replied after looking her over, unable to hide his amusement.
Selene sighed with relief. "Then you can't return me now."
Selene wasn't the type to make a huge deal out of this. Though she knew it wasn't ideal, it had been consensual—Vincent hadn't forced her.
Besides, from what she remembered, Vincent had bathed her, brushed her teeth, and hadn't thrown her out even after she'd thrown up on him.
That meant his character wasn't as terrible as she'd imagined.
"No returns," Vincent smiled, kissing her forehead. "Good morning."
Selene shuddered. His sudden tenderness frightened her.
It was like he'd become a different person overnight. Unsettling.
"Hungry? I'll have the housekeeper make you something," Vincent said, getting up and putting on lounge clothes before heading to the bathroom.
Selene shifted uncomfortably. Damn, her waist hurt.
She wasn't sure what to call this new arrangement with Vincent.
Friends with benefits? A sugar relationship? Or something else?
Shaking her head, Selene curled up on the bed, drawing circles with her finger on the sheets.
There was no point overthinking it. She shouldn't expect too much.
Whatever was between her and Vincent clearly had no future.
She absolutely couldn't let herself develop feelings.
"Come here," Vincent called when he noticed Selene still drawing circles on the bed.
Selene quickly got up and darted into the bathroom, ignoring her aching body as she squeezed toothpaste onto his toothbrush and handed it to him like an eager assistant.
Vincent gave her a suspicious look.
"Boss, you promised—now that we've slept together, you can't prosecute me for stealing the computer," Selene reminded him, afraid he might change his mind.
Vincent smiled helplessly, squeezing toothpaste onto a toothbrush for her and placing it in her mouth.
Selene stood beside Vincent as they brushed their teeth together in front of the mirror.
She suddenly felt her heart racing, and her ears grew warm.
In the mirror, Vincent looked impossibly handsome with his long hair and ruggedly attractive face.
Even in casual clothes, this calculating man wore a deep V-neck that revealed his perfect collarbones and hinted at well-defined chest muscles.
Selene nearly swallowed her toothpaste, quickly looking down as she rinsed her mouth, her face burning.
She deeply regretted being too drunk last night—she'd given away her first time and barely remembered it.
If she'd been sober, she would have properly appreciated that face.
"Mesmerized?" Vincent asked, leaning against the doorframe after finishing his morning routine, catching her stealing glances. "Just realizing your man is quite handsome?"
Selene's face grew even redder.
"Your man"... what a suggestive way to put it.
"Yes, very handsome," she mumbled.
Vincent smiled, his mood brightening considerably.
"I've told Ethan you'll be staying with me for a while. No need to go back to the Douglas Group. Your job is simple—keep me company, sleep beside me, and cook. That's all," Vincent said, ruffling her hair. "But you can't leave this villa. If you get bored, tell me, and I'll take you wherever you want to go."
Vincent worried that naive Selene might get taken advantage of outside.
Lily was obsessive, and since she still had some use to him, Vincent couldn't risk putting Selene in danger.
"So I'm basically a kept woman? Just staying at home and never going anywhere?" Selene protested quietly.
"Be good," Vincent pulled her into his arms, his hands wandering to her waist. It was so slim. And soft—pleasantly so.
Selene's ears turned even redder as she nervously looked at Vincent. "What are you doing? It's too early for this."
"Once this period passes, I'll take you out. For now, be good and stay home. Call me immediately if anything happens," Vincent said, still concerned. Thinking Selene wouldn't listen to reason, he lowered his voice threateningly, "Your choice—stay here with all expenses covered, access to phones and computers, even video games... or I send you to prison. Which is better?"
Selene straightened her back, glaring at Vincent angrily.
She knew this man had no good intentions!
"Fine! I understand!"
Releasing Selene, Vincent went to answer a phone call.
It was Ethan.
"Lily's returned early. She must have met with the person behind the black market," Ethan said gravely.
Their people had been monitoring both the mastermind and Lily.
"I understand..." Vincent walked onto the balcony before continuing. "I need to close the net quickly."
Now that he had a woman he wanted to protect, he was no longer in the mood for games.
