Chapter 421 The Rival Only Wants to Date Me
"Your people?" Sophia laughed. "It seems like I don't like any of your people."
Sophia felt even more proud in an instant. Back when her family was poor, they arranged for her to marry early. Because Guadalupe's mother had saved Sophia, they made her marry Guadalupe.
There was a party at home, but no marriage certificate.
From the day Sophia married Guadalupe, she despised him and always looked down on him.
At that time, Guadalupe was only twenty years old. In the beginning, he was indeed very good to Sophia.
Even without feelings, Guadalupe knew that once married, he had to take on the responsibilities of a husband. He worked from dawn to dusk, giving all the money he earned to Sophia.
Back then, Sophia was still called Dorothy Murphy.
But Dorothy didn't care at all.
A stunner with a wild streak, Dorothy didn't stick around long after marrying Guadalupe. She bolted with another man, swiping all of Guadalupe's money, which he'd painstakingly saved for his mother's surgery.
Not only did Dorothy run off with someone, but she also publicly humiliated Guadalupe.
Furious, Guadalupe went after them, desperate to reclaim the funds his mother urgently needed for her surgery. But Dorothy had her goons rough him up instead.
A dozen people beat up Guadalupe. Although those people didn't get away unscathed, he couldn't fight off so many and was knocked out, lying unconscious in the rain all night.
The next day, when Guadalupe woke up and rushed home in a panic, his mother had already died.
Later, this incident spread in the village. Dorothy, afraid of being talked about, fled the village and changed her name.
She didn't dare return to the village, fearing Guadalupe's revenge.
Over the years, she had been secretly inquiring about his whereabouts, afraid he would hold a grudge and seek revenge.
But May and Samantha said that Guadalupe left the village the year his mother died and disappeared, never returning since.
With that, Sophia felt relieved.
But she didn't expect to run into him at today's charity gala.
It was true that people with conflicts often meet.
"You're really something." Cordelia sneered.
"Ask Guadalupe; he wouldn't dare touch me." Sophia was arrogant, thinking Guadalupe had been afraid of her all these years.
Arnold's eyes darkened, filled with deep-seated anger.
"Would you dare?" Cordelia actually asked.
Arnold looked at her and laughed. "No, I wouldn't want to dirty my hands."
Sophia laughed, feeling even more triumphant. "Cordelia, you've always been my defeated opponent. How does it feel to use what I discarded?"
Cordelia glared at Arnold. "Such a coward."
"But men shouldn't hit women, so I'll take care of hitting her." Cordelia, now very carefree, raised her hand and slapped Sophia across the face.
In the past, she had been repressed for too long because of her daughter's situation, even afraid to see people, falling into depression.
But now it was different. She had found her daughter, and to protect her daughter and grandson, she had to stand in front of everyone.
Sophia clutched her face, almost losing it. "Cordelia, you're nuts!"
Sophia lunged at Cordelia, trying to hit her.
Arnold reached out and pulled Cordelia into his arms, preventing her from being hit.
Sophia still wanted to make a move, but someone from the crowd came over, grabbed her wrist, and stood protectively in front of Cordelia.
Sophia looked up and saw it was Jasmine.
Jasmine gripped Sophia's hand and pushed her away forcefully. "You are not allowed to hit my mom."
Sophia wanted to say something, but Evelina also walked over and stood beside Jasmine. "It's a charity gala, and even mistresses can get in. The entry standards are really low."
Betty and Richard also walked over to stand protectively in front of Cordelia.
Betty flexed her hands. "You want to fight? I'll fight you."
Richard frowned, shielding Betty and Jasmine.
Sophia looked at Richard and instinctively lowered her head as if feeling guilty.
"Is it this lively?" Ethan and Mitchell also walked over, followed by Edgar, Edward, and Nolan.
For a moment, the onlookers didn't dare to say a word.
What a dangerous place this was.
These people stood in front of Cordelia, leaving no gaps at all.
Not only could Sophia not hit Cordelia, but she probably couldn't even see a strand of Cordelia's hair; they were protecting her so well.
Cordelia chuckled; this was her confidence.
Sophia was clearly feeling guilty.
When it came to children, she indeed couldn't compare to Cordelia.
But Richard shouldn't be protecting Cordelia.
He shouldn't be protecting Cordelia!
Gritting her teeth, Sophia still held back.
She and May's identities couldn't be exposed yet.
And they couldn't talk about it in front of others.
"Guadalupe, let's talk." In the end, Sophia compromised, but her face was dark as she looked at Arnold. "If you don't talk to me, I'll tell everyone our secret."
Arnold sneered. "There is only hatred between us, no secrets."
Cordelia looked at Arnold in surprise, very curious.
There was actually a secret between him and Sophia.
Narrowing her eyes, Cordelia gritted her teeth and spoke, "Were you two lovers?"
"I married her..."
"Guadalupe!" Before Arnold could finish, Sophia interrupted him in terror, afraid that Willian would hear.
Back when she was with Willian, she had pretended to be a virgin.
Willian was irresponsible, and without this method, it would have been impossible to trigger his sense of responsibility.
Sophia had hidden this from Willian for so many years, afraid it would all be for nothing.
"Come with me!" Sophia warned Guadalupe, turning and walking towards the restroom in embarrassment.
Arnold ignored her and smiled at Cordelia. "She might be crazy; let's go sit down."
"You were saying something halfway; you haven't made it clear. What's your relationship with her?" Cordelia asked with a dark expression.
"Cordelia, are you angry?" Arnold asked with a smile.
"Stop talking." Cordelia wanted to cover Arnold's mouth; her son and daughter were standing right behind her.
As for Jasmine, who was standing behind, she was very shocked.
And Nolan, who had clearly been through a lot, just had a dark expression and said nothing.
Edward smiled. "Arnold, if you want to pursue my mom, let the Sanders Group give us the project. I don't want to compete with you."
Arnold shook his finger. "This is a training opportunity for you. Even among brothers, it's important to clearly account for everything, define each other's rights and responsibilities, and avoid misunderstandings or disputes."
"Arnold, you're from the previous generation," Edgar teased.
Ethan raised an eyebrow at Jasmine.
It seemed the Cunningham heirs all knew about Arnold's feelings for Cordelia.
They didn't find it strange anymore.
But it was quite interesting. Before knowing this, even Ethan thought the Cunningham Group and the Sanders Group were rivals.
Over the years, they had often competed in the business world with various bizarre business battles that were both laughable and lamentable.
No one could have imagined that Arnold, their arch-rival, only wanted to date Cordelia.
