Chapter 248 Wilson Became an Assistant by Nolan's Side
Betty fell asleep in Richard's arms on the way back to his house.
Richard could only hold her, with no other options.
Mitchell parked the car downstairs and watched Richard carry the sleeping Betty out of the car. "Take good care of her."
Richard paused for a moment, looking up at Mitchell. "I will."
"Betty is not as strong as you think," Mitchell said seriously, then prepared to drive away. "Don't forget to come find me tomorrow morning."
Richard watched Mitchell drive away.
He thought to himself, 'Is he close to Betty? He seems to understand Betty very well.'
Lowering his head to look at the sleeping Betty, Richard carried her into the elevator.
"Don't go." Betty's voice was hoarse.
Richard instinctively patted Betty's back. "I won't."
'Unless you stop loving me,' Richard thought.
In The Douglas Residence, Howard sat on the sofa with a gloomy face. "What did you say? Say it again!"
Claire looked at Howard's injured face and hands, feeling extremely distressed.
"I want to cancel the engagement," Daniel said in a low and angry voice.
"Do you know what you're saying?" Howard's voice became low.
He thought to himself, 'The Douglas family and the Wilson Family have a partnership. What does Daniel want to achieve by canceling the engagement at this time?'
"Howard, I agree with you. I have wanted them to cancel the engagement for a long time. Serena is not worthy of our son. Although she is the true daughter of the Wilson Family, she is far inferior to Wilson. She not only lacks substance but also has health issues. I don't want my son to marry such a woman. I hope they can have children as soon as possible," Claire strongly supported Daniel canceling the engagement.
Howard frowned. "Is canceling the engagement that simple?"
"They will agree," Daniel said in a low voice.
He now had leverage over Evan, so he believed they would definitely agree.
"I don't care if you cancel the wedding or not, but if you bring shame to the Douglas family, I won't spare you," Howard angrily stood up and left.
"You and Evan have always had a good relationship. What happened today? How did you end up fighting?" Claire quickly asked in a low voice once Howard entered the bedroom.
Daniel clenched his fists tightly and angrily glanced at Claire. "Mom, I'm asking you again, did you really report Wilson for extortion? Is it true?"
Claire paused and angrily said, "That matter is in the past, why are you bringing it up again?"
"Tell the truth!" Daniel's voice became hoarse as he raised his tone.
"Lower your voice, your father is already angry," Claire quickly urged Daniel to speak softly out of fear.
"I can't do it! Have you really been happy since coming to this family? Have I ever lived a day as myself? I have to do better than Ethan, I excel at everything. I want your approval, I want to be obedient. I can be anyone except myself!" Daniel shouted uncontrollably, as if going crazy, and stood up and ran out of the house.
Claire was scared by Daniel's rebellion and patted her chest. "What happened to him today?"
"Why did he suddenly become so irrational?"
"You guys follow him! He doesn't seem right today, don't let him cause any trouble."
Wilson fulfilled his promise and joined the Silverlight City branch of Cunningham Enterprises.
Since it was authorized by Nolan, Wilson's employment did not go through the personnel department review and was considered a direct transfer.
"Did you hear? Mr. Cunningham found an assistant, who was personally appointed by him, and she's a woman. It seems like this assistant is quite capable."
"Could she be Mr. Cunningham's girlfriend? She must be one of those seductive women, otherwise, why would she catch Mr. Cunningham's attention?"
"Do we even need to say it? Be careful, the woman coming in later is definitely Mr. Cunningham's assistant."
Several employees were chatting at the front desk.
They were all curious about what kind of beautiful woman this new assistant, who transferred today, would be like.
"Well..." Wilson felt a bit embarrassed. She had been here for half a day, and these receptionists ignored her, continuing their conversation.
"What do you do?" an employee from the personnel department asked her.
"I'm here to work," Wilson said awkwardly.
"Which department are you from? Cleaner, or..." The employee scrutinized Wilson.
Today, Wilson was wearing a loose jacket with a faded wool coat and loose pants. She casually tied her hair back and wore a pair of outdated glasses that almost covered her beautiful face. She had no makeup on.
Wilson couldn't help but feel helpless. Ethan was just so immature. He wouldn't let her go out unless she dressed like this.
She didn't even know where Liam got this faded coat from. The loose sweatshirt she was wearing seemed to be Ethan's from a long time ago.
Helplessly raising her hand to cover her forehead, Wilson felt extremely awkward today. "I'm the newly hired executive assistant."
As soon as Wilson finished speaking, the HR manager straightened up and carefully examined her.
They seemed to have guessed wrong. They didn't expect the new assistant to dress so outdated.
"You're the executive assistant?" The HR manager looked at Wilson with shock and disbelief. "Are you sure?"
Wilson nodded awkwardly.
Just then, Nolan entered the company. Passing by Wilson, he didn't recognize her.
"Mr. Cunningham, she said she's the new assistant today." The HR manager quickly caught up.
Nolan stopped in his tracks, took a step back, and stood in front of Wilson. His expression darkened as he scrutinized her closely.
He took off the glasses that looked somewhat clumsy on Wilson's face. Nolan gritted his teeth and said, "Did you pick these clothes from the trash?"
Nolan sneered, cursing Ethan in his heart.
He thought, 'Ethan, this genius of the Silverlight City business world, that cold and arrogant man, how can he be so childish now?'
"Mr. Cunningham, I actually think these clothes are quite nice." Wilson could only helplessly compliment Ethan for finding her comfortable clothes.
Nolan glanced at the HR manager. "Bring her a uniform. Starting tomorrow, you must wear makeup to work. If you continue to dress like this, our collaboration is canceled."
Wilson picked up her glasses in panic and followed along. "Mr. Cunningham, I'm here to work, not participate in a beauty pageant."
"Shut up," Nolan scolded with a frown.
Wilson bit her lip and remained silent, following behind Nolan.
The employees turned their heads in shock and looked at each other. "What's wrong with Mr. Cunningham's sense of aesthetics?"
"Maybe it's not what we think? Maybe this girl is Mr. Cunningham's relative?"
"She must be a relative! Take a closer look, she kinda looks like Mr. Cunningham. She must be his sister."
In the elevator, Nolan looked serious, and the people around him dared not speak.
"Ethan, the nurse mentioned the Harper Family. I have been investigating them for the past few days. Mom wants me to meet Annabelle first. She thinks it's too coincidental," Nolan said.
Just as Nolan stepped out of the elevator, he received a call from Edward.
"Why don't you just have a paternity test done?" Nolan frowned.
"Oh, and Mom said she wants to meet Wilson. When will you bring her back?"
