Chapter 942 Rhett and Beck Deserve Punishment
Vincent's Place
For two weeks straight, Vincent had ignored Lily's calls. He knew her patience was wearing thin.
"Vincent! I know you're in there. Let me in!" Lily shouted, not for the first time.
But Vincent's security staff continued to block her entry.
"Vincent, are you abandoning me too?" Lily's voice cracked with emotion. The question hung in the air, weighted with her history of rejection.
Why was she always the one left behind? Former friends turned enemies, and now Vincent—who had promised to always be there—had shut her out because of mere rumors.
Why was the world so cruel? Was this human nature at its core?
Living Room
Vincent swirled his glass of mineral water, gesturing for his assistant to pour him more.
The assistant found it absurd—what was the point of swirling water like it was fine wine?—but Vincent's wishes were commands.
"How far has the conflict between the Murray and Powell families escalated?" Vincent asked coolly.
"As you instructed, after Beck moved against the Powell family, we added fuel to the fire. Beck and the Powells are now completely at odds. Lily has nowhere to turn," the assistant reported promptly.
Vincent gave a cold laugh.
"Uriah has been arrested in Skyview City," the assistant continued. "Only two threats to Lily remain, and with Beck's intervention, they'll soon be neutralized. Beck has been relentless in helping Lily against the Powells."
"Those two—father and son—will eventually be destroyed by women," Vincent said with icy amusement. "Beck truly believes that with Lily in charge, he'll extract greater benefits from the Powell family. He underestimates Lily."
Lily was like a venomous snake, ready to strike at anyone.
"The Powell family's counterattack has damaged the Murrays as well. All Murray business activities in Silverwood have been affected to varying degrees." In business warfare, no side escapes unscathed.
Vincent watched their mutual destruction with detached interest. The conflict had progressed nicely—if he didn't offer some support soon, the situation might spiral beyond his control.
"That's enough," Vincent said, setting down his water and walking toward the door.
Outside, Lily was turning to leave in despair. This would likely be her last attempt.
If Vincent wouldn't trust her, she had no choice but to go. She wasn't without options—without Vincent, she still had Beck. She had been willing to give up Beck for Vincent, but if Vincent abandoned her first, Beck was her only lifeline.
"Leaving so soon?" Vincent stood in the doorway, watching her.
Lily froze, her eyes instantly reddening as she turned to face him.
"No apology? No explanation?" Vincent's voice was slightly hoarse—merely from drinking too much water, though it came across as emotional depth.
Lily finally broke down, rushing forward to embrace him. This time, Vincent's security team made no move to stop her.
"Why wouldn't you believe me? There's nothing between Ethan and me. I swear," Lily sobbed, her eyes red and swollen as she made her desperate pledge.
Vincent sighed. "Do you think that's why I was upset with you?"
Lily lowered her head, uncertain what else she had done wrong.
"Whenever you face problems, you try to solve them yourself instead of coming to me. You won't rely on me, which means you don't fully trust me," Vincent explained with a calculated sigh.
His performance was impeccable.
Lily cried harder. After being shut out for so long, this sudden show of concern overwhelmed her emotions.
Vincent was a master of emotional manipulation.
"Vincent, from now on, I'll trust only you," Lily promised, clinging to him. "I've nearly dealt with the Powell family. Once they're gone, I'll have no more ties holding me back. We can be together."
Vincent stroked her hair. "Good."
Lily held onto him, unwilling to let go.
Vincent's brow furrowed slightly with irritation.
After a long moment, he delivered the perfect line: "Lily, I was only worried about you..."
A man's love could be feigned. Never trust a seemingly passionate man too easily.
Even a woman as shrewd as Lily could be blinded by what appeared to be love.
"I won't spare Beck. Even if it's just for your sake, I'll make him disappear from Silverlight City," Vincent said in a low voice.
Lily looked at him with gratitude. "Vincent, I'll help you..."
Vincent's lips curved into a smile.
He could easily have Beck killed to satisfy his vendetta. But destroying the soul was far more satisfying.
Having Beck die at the hands of the venomous beauty he had nurtured would be the perfect revenge.
He looked forward to witnessing Beck's demise at a woman's hands. Men like Beck who disrespected women deserved such a fate.
Sunshine Restaurant
Rhett and Avery had finalized their divorce. In his haste to end the marriage, Rhett had sacrificed most of his personal assets to free himself from what he called "that crazy woman."
Rhett texted his current girlfriend from his window-side table.
Rhett: [Darling, why aren't you here yet?]
His rush to divorce Avery had been motivated by his eagerness to marry again—specifically, to use his new girlfriend's family connections to secure his position at the Murray Group.
What he didn't realize was that he was being played. His new girlfriend wasn't the wealthy heiress she claimed to be—she was a creation designed by Edgar and Edward.
Rhett and Beck were both despicable men who deserved to be deceived.
Rhett texted again: [Darling?]
He frowned when she didn't respond.
Had something happened to her on the way?
As the silence continued, Rhett grew anxious and began calling her. They had been dating long enough to discuss marriage, and today was supposed to be the day she introduced him to her parents. He had reserved the entire restaurant for the occasion.
His girlfriend had promised that her parents would bring an influential figure who would invest in the Murray Group and fund Rhett's own business venture.
The promises had seemed too good to be true—and they were.
Ten minutes had passed with no sign of her. When he called, she rejected his calls.
Rhett was stunned. What was happening?
Men like Rhett and Beck were accustomed to being in positions of power. They never imagined being manipulated by women.
After fifteen unanswered calls, Rhett began to panic.
