Chapter 446 Evan Came to Apologize Again
Zelda was forcibly confined to a room in the mental hospital, and no matter how much she banged on the door or cried out, no one would come to her rescue.
Annabelle was really ruthless towards Zelda. She had instructed the staff in advance to give her special treatment.
"Let me out! Do you know who I am? Let me out!" Zelda continued to pound on the door and shouted angrily.
Before long, a group of nurses and doctors slipped into the room.
The doctor looked at Zelda and nodded to the head nurse.
Soon, they pinned Zelda to the ground. The more she screamed and insisted she wasn't ill, the more they electroshocked her, forced her to take medication, and injected her with sedatives.
Zelda couldn't hold on any longer. Finally, she collapsed to the floor in tears and passed out.
In her unconscious state, she recalled the past.
The days when she led others in bullying and tormenting people.
"Why are you crying? You have no right to cry. Once you're here, don't think about leaving without our permission."
Zelda woke up crying, having been kicked.
Zelda slowly opened her eyes and shrank back in fear.
She was terrified and horrified.
In the past, these were the words she had said to those she bullied, but now they were being said to her by the mental patients.
"Get up, it's time to take your medicine."
They made sure she took her medication on time. Zelda knew she wasn't crazy, wasn't ill, but if she kept taking the medication, she would go mad eventually.
"I won't take it, I'm not sick. How much money do you want? I'll have my parents give it to you, as much as you want, just let me out." Zelda's attitude had shifted from defiance, cursing, and arrogance to pleading, all in the span of one night.
The staff had many ways to deal with people like Zelda.
The head nurse sneered. "It was your parents and your sister who sent you here. Who do you think will give us money?"
With that, the nurse had Zelda pinned down and forced her to take the medication.
After taking the medication, she became dazed.
In her daze, even the lights seemed blinding.
"Slut, run, where can you run to?"
The piercing voice made Zelda tremble all over.
For a moment, it was as if she was back in that alley six years ago.
They had the pregnant Jasmine to a corner. They beat, cursed, mocked, and forced her to kneel.
Now, all those scenes were being replayed on her.
"Please, let me go, I beg you." Zelda pleaded.
Once, it was Jasmine who begged for mercy. Now, it was Zelda who knelt and begged incessantly.
It maybe the retribution.
"Zelda, you will be punished."
Zelda vaguely remembered that those she had bullied, including Jasmine, had all said she would be punished, but at the time, she had scoffed.
What was punishment? It was impossible.
She, Zelda, had been pampered by her parents since childhood, was the apple of their eye, and had been engaged to the Patrick family of SHC Group after graduation. She was someone that everyone needed to curry favor with.
She couldn't possibly be punished.
Even if there was punishment, it would never fall on her.
She was the daughter of the Harper family, someone the social elite had to flatter.
But now Zelda finally understood that people could have retribution. It was all about time.
"Let me out," Zelda struggled to save herself. As long as she could leave this place.
No matter what it took, no matter the cost, as long as she could escape this place.
At that moment, Zelda felt only hatred for Annabelle, no longer any familial affection.
In Silverlight City, Stanford University.
Jasmine's application for reinstatement had been approved, thanks to Cordelia's help during this time.
It was said that the appeal was very successful, and she even received a national compensation.
It was a form of reparation for wrongful convictions.
Jasmine donated that money, feeling that her life had truly begun anew.
"Jasmine, congratulations." She received many well-wishes, but she never expected Evan to come in person.
Evan leaned against the car door, looking somewhat desolate.
He had changed so much that Jasmine almost didn't recognize him.
It was said that Evan had left the Wilson family's company and had been doing charity work during this time.
"There's nothing to congratulate. This was mine to begin with; it was just delayed by five years." Jasmine could face Evan with a calm heart now, neither sad nor happy, and without much hatred.
To Jasmine, Evan was also a pitiful person, both pitiable and pathetic.
"Jasmine, can I take you out for a meal?" Evan looked at Jasmine with trembling eyes, as if he was hoping.
Hoping that Jasmine would give him this chance.
"Sorry, I'm not available." Jasmine refused. In the past, she wasn't good at refusing people, but now she had learned to say no.
Evan lowered his eyes, his weathered face looking even more haggard and pale. "I really want to make amends. I'm sorry."
"Harm is something that can never be undone." Jasmine looked at Evan's current state, finding him both hateful and pitiful.
Once, she had considered Evan her safe haven.
Evan hung his head in shame, knowing he shouldn't have come to upset Jasmine again, but he couldn't control his desire to see her.
"Jasmine, is Ethan good to you?" Evan tried hard to say something so he could spend a little more time with Jasmine.
Jasmine nodded. "Very good."
"Mom!" Not far away, Richard's car stopped, and he got out holding Justin, Joe and Casey's hands.
"Richard." Jasmine ran over, happily taking the fruit he was carrying. "Are the pomegranates ripe?"
"Knowing you love them, Betty went to pick them." When Richard mentioned Betty, his eyes were full of love.
Clearly, he was smitten.
"Who's Betty?" Jasmine teased Richard on purpose. "Why do you call her that?"
Richard chuckled. He ruffled Jasmine's hair and added, "Your sister-in-law."
Jasmine responded with a snort. She walked back with the pomegranates in her hands.
Only then did Richard notice Evan standing at the entrance of the building. His gaze instantly turned cold, protectively shielding Justin.
Evan's body felt numb as he watched the interaction between Jasmine and Richard, feeling as if a knife was twisting in his heart.
Clearly, Jasmine used to only act coy with him, only called him brother.
But now, he had lost Jasmine.
With reddened eyes, Evan turned around numbly. "Sorry to bother you."
Richard snorted, looking at the now disheveled Evan, he only felt irony.
Back then, when he was hurting Justin and Jasmine, he probably never thought of today.
Justin also hid behind Richard in fear, having a shadow over Evan. "Bad man, Richard, he's a bad man."
Evan's hand froze as he opened the car door, and his fingertips were trembling.
Yes, the mistakes he made in the past not only hurt Jasmine but also Justin.
"Justin, I'm sorry." Even though he felt that an apology was meaningless, Evan still took the initiative to apologize to Justin.
Justin looked at Evan and spoke softly. "You're a bad man, Uncle Evan."
Even though he hated Evan, Jasmine still made Justin call him uncle, acknowledging Evan as her brother.
But only the brother from before she turned twenty-one.
When Evan heard Justin call him, he couldn't hold back any longer, tears uncontrollably streaming down his face.
He got into the car with his head down and drove away as quick as he could.
