Chapter 964 Selene Falls into Vincent's Hands

Vincent's Villa

With Lily gone, Vincent dropped all pretenses. He delegated company responsibilities to his subordinates and spent his days leisurely at home.

Selene, having prepared lunch, watched Vincent with irritation. Why wouldn't he go to work like normal people?

Liam had instructed her to keep tabs on Vincent, ideally convincing him to let her deliver meals to his office where she could gather intelligence about his business dealings. As a self-respecting corporate spy, Selene felt her talents were wasted just cooking meals.

"Boss," she said pointedly, "sitting around all day living off your wealth isn't very inspirational."

Vincent took a sip of the coffee Selene had prepared and frowned. "What kind of coffee is this?"

He'd ordered premium imported beans, yet this tasted... different.

"It's perfectly good coffee! A major brand," Selene replied defensively.

Vincent rubbed his temples. "Haven't you heard of working from home?"

Selene considered this. Vincent did spend time working on his computer in the study.

Noticing her interest, Vincent deliberately mentioned, "All my work is on my computer—project files, everything. I can work from home while my team handles the execution."

He was clearly baiting her.

Selene's ears perked up, her eyes widening with interest.

Vincent leaned back on the sofa, continuing to drink what Selene called "major brand" coffee. Surprisingly, it was growing on him.

"What brand is this? I'll have my assistant order more," he asked.

Vincent needed his coffee to stay alert.

"Instant coffee from the supermarket," Selene announced proudly.

Vincent nearly choked, sitting up straight. "You gave me instant coffee?"

This was an insult to a coffee connoisseur like himself.

Selene looked confused. "What's wrong with instant? It's all just hot water and powder. Tastes the same to me, and it's much simpler than your grinding, brewing, and whatever else you do."

She'd bought instant coffee precisely to avoid the complicated process Vincent preferred.

Vincent set down his cup and retreated to his study, exasperated. He needed a moment of peace before Selene drove him to madness.

In the living room, Selene tiptoed to check if Vincent was truly gone, then texted Liam: [Vincent works from home and says all project files are on his computer!]

Liam replied excitedly: [Steal his computer.]

Selene scratched her head and texted: [Isn't that illegal?]

Liam: [Take it, copy the project plans, then return it.]

Selene: [That's still illegal, isn't it?]

Liam: [I think so.]

Selene fell silent.

Liam: [Don't worry, he's done plenty of shady things. He'll have incriminating material on there and won't dare call the police. Just take it first.]

Selene hesitated.

Liam: [If things go wrong, I'll protect you. He's stolen so many projects from us—that's worth at least $500,000 in bonuses to you. Do it for the money!]

Selene clenched her teeth in determination and replied: [Fine!]

After lunch, Vincent mentioned he needed to visit Ethan.

"Want to come along?" he asked Selene.

She quickly shook her head.

Vincent raised an eyebrow. Previously she'd been practically glued to him, and now suddenly she wanted space? Something was definitely up. His computer was clearly the target.

The moment Vincent left, Selene crept into his study. She hesitated several times, walking to the door then returning, pacing back and forth until she was nearly dizzy.

In the car, Vincent leaned back, watching the security feed from his study on his phone. Selene's antics made him smile.

The driver glanced nervously in the rearview mirror. Was the boss actually smiling?

Throughout the journey, Vincent watched as Selene took his computer, put it back, then finally mustered the courage to take it for good.

Vincent found her amusing, raising an eyebrow thoughtfully. He wasn't sure why, but there was something intriguing about her.

With evidence of her theft, she was now in his debt.

"Take the back entrance to the neighborhood," Vincent instructed, smiling mischievously.

The driver felt a chill. Someone was about to have a very bad day.

Meanwhile, Selene rushed to meet Liam with Vincent's computer. After struggling unsuccessfully to crack the password, Liam gave up.

"Let's just return it," he suggested.

"What? Just like that?" Selene thought Liam was being cowardly.

Liam considered briefly. "If he discovers it missing, Vincent can be vindictive. He's ruthless when it comes to revenge."

Selene tensed, looking at Liam nervously. "You could have mentioned that earlier! I'm the one who stole it!"

"That's why we need to return it quickly. Don't worry, he won't be back yet," Liam reassured her, though he was clearly spooked. "Besides, stealing his project plans wouldn't be ethical. We just wanted to teach him a lesson."

Selene felt like she was holding a hot potato. "I'll put it back immediately."

Liam nodded. "Hurry."

"Should I continue the mission? Keep spying on him?" Selene asked, uncertain about her role now.

Liam thought for a moment. "How about this—put some laxatives in his food tomorrow. Just as a warning."

Selene considered. "I guess that works..."

She hurried back with the computer, but as she entered the living room, she found Vincent sitting on the sofa.

Selene let out a terrified shriek, nearly dropping the computer.

She trembled, hiding the device behind her back. "B-boss! Why are you back? Weren't you going out?"

Vincent reclined on the sofa, watching her.

Selene was on the verge of tears, frozen in place.

"I saw a thief enter my study and take my computer," Vincent said, rising and approaching her step by step.

Selene backed into a corner until Vincent trapped her.

"Do you know the penalty for stealing a computer containing business secrets?" Vincent placed his hand on the wall beside her head. "Ten years minimum..."

He was deliberately scaring her.

Selene burst into tears. She was so young—ten years would make her thirty-something when she got out.

"I didn't touch anything on the computer! We couldn't even unlock it..." she sobbed.

Vincent smiled, continuing to tease her. "We? So you have accomplices? Tell me who they are, and I'll only report them, not you..."

Selene covered her mouth, shaking her head vigorously. "No accomplices. Just me..."

Even facing punishment, she wouldn't betray Liam. Without him, she'd still be selling Irish stew, getting mistreated, and earning barely over a thousand dollars a month. Loyalty mattered to her.
