Chapter 760 Steven Makes Richard Back Down
Richard walked up to Steven and placed the contract on the table. "This is the cooperation between Mr. Hughes and LY. I don't know how you tricked my people into signing this contract, but if I want to break it, we can take it to court."
"Taking it to court would greatly damage LY's reputation. It was your own people who signed the contract. If you don't fulfill it, it's not just about the exorbitant penalty fee." Steven smiled. "Fifteen million dollars in penalty fees. You, a small-time bodyguard, would never earn that in a lifetime if you hadn't married Betty."
Richard clenched his fingers, knowing Steven was provoking him. "Then I have to thank Mr. Hughes. You left a lot of inheritance to Betty when he died. By marrying her, I got everything that belonged to Mr. Hughes."
Richard's words were now sharp enough to infuriate Steven.
After all, having spent so much time around Betty, he knew how to twist the knife with his words.
"Richard!" Sure enough, Steven was angry. He slammed the table and looked at Richard, sneering. "Are you really planning to hide behind Betty and not take this job? It's just three months of being my personal bodyguard. I'm offering LY ten million dollars."
Steven intended for Richard to earn the money but not live to spend it.
"I investigated Mr. Hughes. The reason you faked your death was because too many people in the Hughes family wanted kill you. Now that you're back, although you've solved the Silverwood problem, the Muskow issue is still unresolved. There are still people who want you dead." The Hughes family was a complex clan.
Previously, to protect Betty, Richard had investigated the Hughes family.
Arnold had also said that Steven was just a junior and not yet formidable enough. The truly terrifying one was the old man who claimed to be the head of the Hughes family, Ronald Hughes.
Steven's lineage had almost died out, all dying young, either from unexplained illnesses or in freak accidents, plane crashes.
In short, the Hughes family business was built by Steven's grandfather, Kevin Hughes, but it gradually fell into Ronald as the descendants dwindled.
Ronald's branch, however, was thriving.
So, it was dangerous for Steven to come back suddenly
Ronald would definitely make a move against Steven.
Richard only needed to stay by Steven's side. There was no need for Steven to plot actively; just by Ronald, Richard must be killed.
"So what?" Steven asked with a smile. "Are you scared?"
Ryder glanced nervously at Richard. "Richard, you can't take this job. It's a death sentence. I heard that during Steven's fake death, he had over a dozen mercenaries protecting him."
None of them survived.
Richard and Steven looked at each other.
Both of them were engaged in a contest, waiting to see who would concede first.
Steven hoped Richard would back down, proving he was a coward and unworthy of Betty.
If he agreed, it would also be an opportunity to eliminate him.
"I agree," Richard said in a low voice.
Steven squinted his eyes, scrutinizing Richard.
He hadn't expected Richard to agree.
"Alright," Steven smiled. "From now on, you're my personal bodyguard."
Ryder looked at Richard in panic. "Richard, are you crazy? Let me protect Steven instead."
"Go back and take care of the company," Richard instructed Ryder.
"But..." Ryder wanted to volunteer but was grabbed by Steven's bodyguard and thrown out.
In terms of physique, the bodyguard of Steven had the advantage, especially since Richard had said no fighting today.
Frustrated, Ryder left to find Betty.
In the room, Richard looked at Steven. "Since I'm now your bodyguard, shouldn't you inform me of your schedule?"
"Schedule?" Steven laughed. "You don't need to know my schedule, you just need to follow me."
Richard stood up expressionlessly and took the uniform and earpiece handed to him by the bodyguard Asha.
Asha looked at Richard provocatively and deliberately bumped into him.
Richard dodged and gave him a warning look.
Steven watched Richard with amusement, curious to see how long he could last.
"Let's go." After changing clothes, Steven had Richard follow him out.
Richard frowned and checked the time. "Where to?"
"You're just a bodyguard, just follow," Marley glared at Richard with displeasure.
Richard said nothing. Since they were in Silverlight City, he wasn't worried about what Steven might do.
Sure enough, Steven took him to a mall.
The mall was a crowded place, and Steven was deliberately exposing himself to those who wanted to kill him.
"Betty's favorite brand is this one. Did she ever tell you?" Steven took Richard to a luxury store.
Everything there cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
"Of course, she wouldn't tell you because you can't afford it," Steven seemed to be deliberately provoking Richard.
Richard looked at Steven like he was an idiot, finding it a bit childish.
As soon as Steven entered the store, the sales staff enthusiastically handed over the items. "It's an honor to have you here in person."
Marley took the gift box and checked it.
"Let's go." Steven led Richard out again, still walking through crowded areas.
Richard remained vigilant, thinking Steven had a death wish.
But he also knew Steven wanted him to be the scapegoat.
"Watch out!" Seeing someone approach, Richard frowned and pushed Steven aside.
Steven almost lost his balance and looked at Richard angrily.
Richard spoke calmly. "As a bodyguard, I must ensure your safety at all times."
Steven's face darkened. Although he knew Richard did it on purpose, he held back.
Then he smiled and got into the car.
"Interesting," Steven said, looking at Richard sitting next to him like a block of wood. "I really don't know how Betty changed her taste to like someone like you."
In the past, when Betty was with Steven, she said he only had desire in his eyes and no charm.
Someone like Richard seemed to have neither desire nor charm.
"Go to the Willer family."
"Go to the Willer family." Steven deliberately spoke.
Richard frowned.
He didn't know what Steven was up to. Did he buy things to give to Betty and then using it as an opportunity to humiliate him?
Steven wouldn't be that childish, would he?
Sure enough, Richard was overthinking it.
Steven didn't go to Betty's place but to the Willer family.
Apparently, they had been informed in advance, and the Willer family welcomed them warmly, as if they were receiving an important guest.
Richard lowered his eyes, his face not looking good.
The Willer family was full of snobs, and Richard knew it well.
He also knew he wasn't welcomed by the Willer family.
Despite being married to Betty for so long, the Willer family always treated him like a servant. They never greeted him at the door, and even when they met inside, they were indifferent.
But now, the Willer family members were all excitedly standing at the door to welcome Steven.
Even Betty's relatives' children were overjoyed.
It seemed they all preferred Steven.
They only acknowledged Steven as Betty's husband.
Steven looked at Richard provocatively and said in a low voice, "I advise you to have a little self-awareness and take the initiative to withdraw."
