Chapter 477 The Truth Revealed

Evan might not have been the best person, but he was still just a kid.

Alex was speechless, too shocked to say anything, even though he was really worried about Evan.

"Stop being dramatic. Get up, and I'll go with you to see Evan," Evelina said firmly.

Alex sat up quickly, feeling dizzy and almost falling off the bed. Evelina had said she'd go with him.

"I'm worried Karen might do something crazy to get your sympathy," Evelina said coldly as she got up to leave.

Alex scrambled out of bed and noticed Evelina was limping. He hurried to catch up and grabbed her arm, concerned.

Evelina winced and pulled her arm back. "What are you doing?"

Alex frowned. "How did you get hurt?"

Outside the ward, Richard and the bodyguards explained, "Someone attacked Madam. She got hurt jumping out of the car to save you."

Alex looked at Evelina, his eyes tearing up. He hugged her tightly, cursing himself, "I'm such an idiot. I knew you wouldn't leave me."

"No, you're overthinking. I'm just worried the divorce won't be clear if you die," Evelina pushed him away. "Hurry up and go."

Richard and the bodyguards followed them.

Alex asked cautiously, "Evelina, do we really need so many people?"

"Do you think it's too much? Your Karen is kind and wouldn't hurt you, right?" Evelina snapped.

"That's not what I meant," Alex sighed. He was starting to believe Evan and Evelina; Karen might not be as kind as she seemed.

Richard chuckled. "Some of Karen's bodyguards are foreign mercenaries, probably to keep Evan from escaping. We suspect she's holding him captive."

Alex was shocked. "But Evan is her son."

"And what if he's disobedient?" Evelina retorted.

Alex fell silent.

At the Wilson residence, screams came from the bedroom. Evan's leg had worsened, and with his hunger strike and frantic smashing, the pain was unbearable.

Karen was insane. He hadn't realized how crazy she was before.

He always thought he wasn't Benjamin's biological son, which explained her coldness. But now, Evan suspected he was adopted, taken in by Karen to control Alex one day.

"Sir, please bear with it," the nanny said, giving Evan painkillers, but they weren't working anymore.

Evan went mad, throwing things and telling everyone to leave. If this continued, he'd need an amputation.

Suddenly, there was a commotion outside. Sounds of a fight could be heard.

"No one sees Evan without Madam's permission," the bodyguard said.

Karen wasn't there, and her people guarded the living room, not letting anyone in.

Richard and his team started a fight with them.

Evelina and Alex took the chance to head upstairs. Karen's bodyguard tried to stop them but was blocked by Richard.

Alex looked at Richard. "You're impressive, young man."

Evelina sneered. "Mr. Everhart, you are still young, still attractive to women."

Alex awkwardly touched his nose, feeling like even breathing was wrong.

Breaking into Evan's room, Evelina and Alex were both stunned.

Evan was on the floor, desperately trying to crawl out. He looked so frail, like he had lost all his bones, a shadow of his former self.

Evelina took a deep breath. "Is Karen insane?"

Seeing Alex and Evelina, Evan felt a wave of relief and his eyes welled up.

"Evan!"

Evan couldn't hold on and fainted.

Alex scooped him up and ran out, shouting for an ambulance.

He truly cared about Evan, maybe because of the father-son bond.

From the first time he saw Evan, Alex knew without a paternity test that this was his son.

Evelina stood on the stairs, watching Alex run with Evan in his arms.

It wasn't that he shouldn't be anxious, but as a wife, her feelings were complicated.

That was a child from another woman and her husband.

She felt a deep bitterness.

Karen had succeeded; she knew having a child would forever tie her to Alex.

"Mom." Evan was burning up with a high fever, drowsily calling for his mother.

Evelina sat in the ambulance, staring blankly at Evan.

If her child had been born safely, he would be this age now.

She turned away, forcing herself not to cry.

If only her child were still alive, how wonderful that would be.

But there were no "ifs."

She would have traded her life to keep her child alive.

Annabelle returned to the Douglas family residence in a great mood. She had successfully negotiated a project, securing a big order before Ethan.

The Douglas family was now suppressing Ethan's company, and he needed more capable people, making it tough to manage everything.

It was said Ethan had recently hired a formidable person named Deborah, but Annabelle wasn't worried.

Hadn't she just secured the project cooperation first?

Walking into the living room, Annabelle sat proudly on the sofa. "What? No welcome?"

Claire looked at Annabelle with venomous eyes, then glanced at her still-flat belly.

"Whose child is this?" Claire asked.

Annabelle smiled. "The Douglas family's."

"What tricks did you use?" Claire was furious, wanting to tear Annabelle apart.

"That's none of your business. I'm carrying the Douglas family's child," Annabelle said calmly.

Claire snorted, saying nothing, but she was already thinking of getting rid of the child.

"I've secured such a big project; shouldn't we celebrate? Claire, how about pouring me a glass of water?"

Claire reluctantly got up and poured Annabelle a glass of water, adding miscarriage-inducing medicine to it.

"Now that the Douglas family has partnered with the Sanders Group, we'll soon be out of trouble. If you keep focusing on my flaws, your vision is too narrow. Why don't we shake hands and cooperate?" Annabelle suggested, hoping to make peace with Claire.

After drinking the water Claire handed her, Annabelle spoke again.

"Besides, I am indeed carrying Liam's child. Howard knows I went for IVF, using the embryos Daniel and Serena had stored when they planned to have a child."

Back then, Serena had poor health, so she had her eggs retrieved and embryos frozen in advance.

This meant the child was the fertilized egg of Serena and Daniel, merely using her body to give birth.

Claire's face changed dramatically, and she stood up straight. "What did you say?"
