Chapter 239 Joe and Jasmine Take a Paternity Test
"Just now, Nolan called and said that the nurse from the hospital back then had been found.
The nurse said that there might have been a mix-up. It was the hospital's negligence. She's afraid of implicating herself, so she has been hiding all these years. There was indeed a family that gave birth to a baby girl, and they were the ones who started the Harper Residence near the Xisha Seafood Market."
Cordelia remained silent for a moment and looked at Edward. "The girl just now, who did she say she was?"
"It seems her name is Harper."
"Harper," the assistant reminded.
"Could it really be such a coincidence?" Cordelia furrowed his brows.
"Perhaps it's fate, as the fortune teller had said," the assistant whispered.
Edward laughed. "Investigate first before speaking," he said.
He didn't believe in coincidences, only in evidence.
With modern medical technology being so advanced, doing a paternity test is easy.
Kindergarten.
Parents play games with their children, seeing which family can solve all the addition and subtraction problems in the shortest time.
Edgar exclaimed in shock. "Kindergartens are this competitive now?"
Math problems were clearly not his strong suit.
"This is kindergarten," Edgar complained. "It's preschool education, not a math class. This school is unreasonable."
"If you can't do it, just admit it. Do you really need to use your brain for such simple problems?"
Ethan snorted. "I'm going to go cool off somewhere else."
This kindergarten was originally meant for geniuses, and admission required an exam.
The children here were not selected solely based on their families' wealth; they had to be exceptional geniuses.
Edgar grumbled; he was not good at math and got a headache just looking at numbers.
"Each family can send two representatives, either a father with their child or a mother with their child," the teacher explained with a smile.
Ethan glanced at Justin, and they understood each other.
"Do you know how to solve math problems?" Joe asked Casey quietly.
Casey scratched his head innocently. "12345 minus 3456, it's so difficult."
Jasmine, who was next to them, laughed and picked up Casey. "Let Justin and Ethan win the prizes to give to you."
Casey nodded happily.
In the entire school, Casey was probably the only one who got in purely through connections.
"Daddy, I want to go too," Joe reached out his hand for Edgar to take him.
Edgar quickly shook his head. "Math problems are not my strong suit, please spare me."
"Daddy, you're so dumb," Joe sighed.
Seeing Joe feeling a bit disappointed, Jasmine held his hand. "Shall I accompany you?"
"Mommy will accompany me!" Joe happily jumped up.
The competition officially began, and in the first round, half of the families were eliminated.
In the second round, only three or four families remained.
In the third round, only Ethan, Justin, Jasmine, and Joe were left.
It was a family competition.
"Mr. Douglas is too amazing, he's a human calculator."
"That child is also incredibly talented."
Below, people started to flatter them.
Edgar snorted. "My son and my girlfriend are also talented!"
Ethan glared at Edgar, momentarily distracted and not seeing the problem.
"8645!" Justin and Joe shouted the answer at the same time.
The two children were both little geniuses, refusing to back down.
Ethan, seeing Jasmine's joyous smile, also smiled. "Let them compete."
In the fourth and fifth rounds, both little guys shouted out the answer at the same time.
Edgar, who was watching the scene under the shade of a tree, was stunned.
"These two little guys are so synchronized?"
In the end, both Justin and Joe won the championship and received gifts.
Justin gave his gift to Casey, who was overjoyed.
Joe gave his gift to Jasmine, who was also very happy.
"Ethan, is it possible that Jasmine is actually Joe's mother?" Edgar nudged Ethan and asked quietly. "They look a bit alike."
"Dream on," Ethan told Edgar, trying to wake him up. "Kids can mistake their mothers, but you're grown up. Don't talk nonsense, or you'll scare Jasmine."
Edgar hummed. "But this is really too much. Shouldn't they do a paternity test?"
Ethan glanced at Joe, who was fighting with Justin for Jasmine's attention.
Surprisingly, Ethan didn't argue. It wouldn't hurt to do a test.
"Joe is not your son? Where did you find him?" Ethan asked.
"Yeah, he is not my son," Edgar whispered. "Well, it's not a secret. That year, the Cunningham Family came to Silverlight City to attend a business dinner, and my brother insisted on bringing me along. I agreed, but that night, I had a date with a beautiful woman... who didn't show up. When I opened the door, someone had left a child for me. At that time, I suspected that he was from one of my former girlfriends. So, I had a paternity test done and found out that he wasn't mine. However, since he was already here and had a serious congenital heart disease, I couldn't bear to send him to an orphanage."
Ethan sneered and furrowed his brow.
Joe and Justin indeed looked too similar.
"Let's arrange a paternity test for Joe and Jasmine." Edgar looked at Ethan.
"Are you trying to use the child to establish a connection with Jasmine?" Ethan warned.
"Am I that kind of person? I pursue true love, which is based on mutual affection. I never force anyone into anything." Edgar had a righteous look on his face.
"I'll look into this matter myself," Ethan nodded.
He did have doubts about the similarity between Joe and Justin.
If Jasmine had been pregnant with twins back then and one of the children was taken away, he would feel even more guilty.
Jasmine and the others played all day. After the parents' day activities ended, they went to the amusement park.
"Come on kids, line up." Jasmine happily lined up the three children at the restroom of Ethan's house to wash their hands.
Ethan looked disdainfully at Edgar, who insisted on following them home. "You Douglas family people have such thick skin?"
"Do you Cunningham's Family people treat guests like this?" Edgar snorted. "I want some fruit."
"You are a guest?" Ethan warned Edgar. "The fruit is in the fridge, go wash it yourself. If you dare to let my wife do it, I'll throw you out."
Edgar dismissed it. "Did you get married?"
"Do you want me to show you?" Ethan raised his eyebrows proudly.
"Ethan, you are a bit different from the rumors, a little childish," Edgar thought Ethan was childish.
After all, when he showed off his marriage certificate, his tail was wagging in the air.
'Ding dong.' The doorbell rang.
Ethan got up to open the door.
It was Mitchell at the door.
Mitchell brought two bags of snacks. "Where is my nephew?"
"Go deal with important matters first," Ethan stopped Mitchell and gave him two samples of hair. "I want results in three hours."
Mitchell looked resentful. "Not even going to let me have a bite to eat?"
"Did your family go bankrupt?" Ethan frowned.
"Fine, I see through you," Mitchell muttered and turned to leave.
Remembering something, Mitchell spoke again, "Ethan, is this considered a jackpot? You got a wife and two sons falling from the sky?"
"Get lost, talk after you get the results," Ethan said guiltily.
In the restroom, Joe was vigorously rubbing his scalp.
"Joe, does your scalp hurt?" Jasmine asked quietly.
"It feels like someone is pulling my hair, it hurts," Joe said angrily.
Jasmine checked Joe's scalp, but couldn't see anything wrong with the naked eye. "Blow on it, it won't hurt anymore."
"Mom, someone pulled my hair the other day too," Justin scratched his head.
Jasmine paused and thought, 'Pulling hair?'
For some reason, she felt a little uneasy.
