Chapter 976 Vincent Scares Selene

Vincent's Place

After being discharged from the hospital, Vincent returned home with Selene.

"Are you really going to marry me?" Vincent asked, leaning back on the sofa.

Selene thought for a moment. "Shouldn't I be asking you that? Are you sure about this?"

"Getting married these days only requires ID cards. It's simple enough. I'm game if you are," Vincent said with a challenging smile.

Selene bit her lip, still contemplating.

"Miss this chance, and you won't get another. Your fate's in your own hands, Selene. And don't forget—Lily's still out there, watching and waiting," Vincent said, deliberately provoking her.

Selene slapped her thigh and stood up. "Let's go get the license then."

Vincent's lips curled into a smile as he grabbed their IDs and practically dragged Selene to the car, afraid she might change her mind if he gave her too much time to think.

Poor Selene, being whisked away to City Hall before she could fully process what was happening.

It wasn't until they returned home with their marriage certificate that Vincent revealed his devilish smile. "Selene, now that we're married, you'll have to fulfill your wifely duties before I die."

Selene eyed him suspiciously. "What duties?"

"What do you think?" Vincent scooped her up with his uninjured arm and carried her toward the bedroom.

Only then did Selene realize what she'd gotten herself into.

"Vincent... your wound!" Selene protested. "Put me down, I can walk there myself."

It wasn't as if she would be getting the short end of the stick anyway.

Vincent sighed. "I thought you were waiting for me to die to inherit my fortune. Why worry about my wound?"

Selene paused. He had a point. Shouldn't she be hoping for his demise?

Vincent kissed her lightly. "What are you thinking about?"

"I was wondering if I should take you traveling—mountain climbing, deep-sea diving..." Selene murmured.

Vincent's lips twitched. "Would you really want to do that to me, Selene?"

Selene glanced at Vincent's handsome face and smiled foolishly. "Not just yet."

She'd keep him around a bit longer.

Vincent couldn't help but laugh at her candor, pressing her down to deepen the kiss.

Lily's Residence

Lily sat on her sofa, biting her fingernails as her assistant reported to her. "Are you certain that this Selene person stayed with Vincent the entire time he was hospitalized?"

Her assistant nodded nervously.

Lily lost control, smashing items on the table, her breathing rapid. "And you're saying Vincent took her to his estate in the suburbs after being discharged?"

Lily knew exactly what that house meant to Vincent. She had investigated him thoroughly.

She had assumed that once she married Vincent, he would naturally accept her and take her to live there.

Instead...

She had been nothing but a joke. A complete joke!

Clenching her fists in rage, Lily collapsed back onto the sofa.

Vincent!

Her anger gradually transformed into hatred.

She had never been so thoroughly manipulated before.

The humiliation was unbearable!

And it was all Vincent's doing.

"Fine, Vincent... if you're going to play me, don't blame me for what comes next," Lily laughed, a touch of madness in her voice. She turned to her assistant and spoke coldly. "Keep an eye on Selene."

She thought, 'Vincent, you claim to have no weaknesses? Let's see if this Selene becomes your Achilles' heel!'

Vincent's Place

After their passionate encounter, Selene lay exhausted on the bed, unwilling to move.

She had to admit she'd enjoyed it.

Especially watching Vincent emerge from the bathroom with just a towel wrapped around his waist, his handsome features and tempting abs on display.

She never imagined she'd end up with such an attractive man, even if Vincent could be quite wicked at times.

"Vincent, can I ask you something?" Selene perked up, sitting cross-legged on the bed as she watched him.

Vincent suddenly regretted being gentle with her, worried he'd worn her out.

She seemed to have recovered remarkably quickly.

It made him question his own abilities.

"While I'm in a good mood, go ahead," Vincent said, leaning against the bed with a raised eyebrow.

"Do you have many women outside our relationship?" Selene asked quietly.

"None!" Vincent replied through gritted teeth. "Have you ever heard any rumors about me?"

Selene nodded obediently. "Liam told me you're ruthless, cunning, twisted, and have countless women..."

Vincent wanted to murder Liam. Was it too late for that?

"Don't listen to his nonsense. I'm quite virtuous," Vincent said, pulling her into his arms. "Is that all you wanted to discuss?"

"No... I was thinking, you should take care of yourself. I'm in this for your inheritance, so I can't be too greedy and expect to have you all to myself. But when you're with other women, please practice safe sex. Always use protection... Don't catch any strange diseases, and try not to get anyone pregnant. Otherwise, after you die, illegitimate children might show up claiming part of my inheritance, and that would be awkward," Selene said softly, giving the matter serious thought.

Vincent felt he might die of frustration because of Selene someday.

Taking a deep breath, he looked at her. "You're being quite generous... You wouldn't be jealous if I slept with other women?"

Selene lowered her head. "Of course I'd be jealous... but would my jealousy stop you?"

She always felt there was an imbalance in their relationship, and she had no right to control him.

Why worry about things she couldn't change? Wouldn't it be better to just enjoy the inheritance when it came?

"I appreciate your concern," Vincent said, tilting her chin up. "Let me tell you again, I don't have other women. If I did, why wouldn't I let them inherit my fortune instead of marrying you?"

Selene's eyes brightened. "That's true."

Vincent laughed despite his irritation and leaned down to kiss her. "Since you have energy to overthink things, let's go another round."

"Vincent! No more, please! You can't exploit your labor force like this."

"I'm the one doing all the work here."

"Seriously, I can't, no more!"

The Next Day, Noon

After sleeping in, Selene finally woke up and stretched lazily.

Vincent wasn't in the bedroom.

Getting out of bed, she tiptoed to the door and peeked out like a thief.

To her surprise, Vincent was in the kitchen, cooking!

How strange.

"Awake? Wash up and come eat," Vincent said, preparing pasta.

Selene rushed to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face, then hurried back, rubbing her eyes in disbelief. "Vincent, what's gotten into you?"

Vincent cooking for her personally... it seemed surreal.

"Just eat your food," Vincent said, placing a fried egg on her plate.

Selene's mouth watered as she began eating.

"Don't leave the house for a while," Vincent warned. "If you need anything, contact my assistant. Lily is vindictive. She'll resent you for blocking her at the hospital, and when she holds a grudge, she'd tear someone limb from limb if she could."

His scare tactic worked.

Selene nodded solemnly. "I... I won't go anywhere."
