Chapter 398 Mrs. Everhart Also Came to Help Jasmine

The Cunningham family.

Cordelia looked at Edgar, who was throwing a tantrum on the sofa, with a helpless expression. "Aren't you going?"

"I'm not going. I can't face anyone." Ever since learning the truth, Edgar had been depressed, locking himself in his room and only coming out for meals.

Cordelia said she wanted to take him to see Jasmine, but he was being stubborn and refused to leave the house.

"Fine, if he doesn't want to go, so be it. Jasmine won't forgive him anyway. Mom, let's go. Jasmine went to the Douglas family; she might get bullied," Edward said gloomily as he and Cordelia headed out,

Edgar's ears twitched, and he suddenly sat up. "Did Jasmine go to the Douglas family?"

"Today is Howard's birthday. Jasmine went, and Ethan sent a message saying the Douglas family was bullying her. We're going to back her up." Edward exaggerated on purpose.

Edgar, furious, got up and rushed out. "He's so arrogant, having the audacity to bully my sister. How dare him."
Cordelia was helpless; her son was a bit neurotic.

"Are you going dressed like that?" Edward reluctantly pulled Edgar, who was planning to go help Jasmine in a T-shirt and jeans.

Edgar thought for a moment and realized it wasn't appropriate. "Wait for me. I'll dress all in black and carry a black umbrella. I'll make Howard furious."

Edward smirked. Indeed, if you wanted to piss someone off, you needed to bring Edgar.

As Cordelia and Edward stepped out of the yard, they saw a black Maybach parked outside.

A sophisticated woman got out of the car, and the driver helped her with her luggage.

Cordelia looked surprised. "Today is really unusual."

Evelina took off her sunglasses, glanced at Cordelia, and then at Edgar, who was coming out in a solemn black suit. "Edgar, help me bring the luggage inside."

Edgar also took off his sunglasses. "Evelina, did the Everhart family go bankrupt?"

Edward was also a bit surprised. "What's going on?"

"Almost." Evelina gave a fake smile. "Where are you all headed? Where's my daughter?"

"To the Douglas family for Howard's funeral... I mean, birthday." Cordelia rubbed her temples, making the same mistake as Edgar.

"Is Jasmine there too?" Evelina asked,

"Yes." Cordelia nodded.

"Evelina, are you here to see Jasmine? Howard is bullying her at home; let's go help her." Edgar rushed over, grabbed Evelina's arm, and headed for the car.

Evelina looked surprised. "Someone dares to bully my daughter?"

Cordelia glared at Edgar. "You go with Edward."

Reluctantly, Edgar got into Edward's car.

"What's going on with you and Alex?" Cordelia sensed something was off with Evelina this time.

"The private detective keeps me updated. He's at the hospital with Karen right now." Evelina's voice was calm as she showed Cordelia a photo.

It was a picture taken by the private detective she had hired.

In the photo, Karen seemed to be unconscious, and Alex was carrying her from the car into the emergency room.

"Maybe this woman is dying, and he's just being kind..." Cordelia tried to explain to Alex.

Evelina directly dialed Alex's number.

It took a long time for Alex to answer. "Evelina?"

"Where are you?" Evelina asked with a smile,

Alex thought Evelina was in a good mood and breathed a sigh of relief. "Evelina, I'm discussing some cooperation with an important client. I'll call you later."

Evelina glanced at Cordelia and hung up directly. "You see, he's very guilty."

If he really had no feelings for Karen, there was no need to lie. "If he openly admitted to being with Karen, took her to the hospital, and straightforwardly told me that Karen didn't abort the child back then and that the child is indeed his... I would actually respect him for being a responsible person."

Cordelia sighed and said nothing.

When it came to matters of the couple, even the best of friends should refrain from giving opinions.

They had lived most of their lives and understood things better than anyone. How to choose and how to live depended on their own decisions.

Others said too much or too little, which was not good.

"What do you want to do?" Cordelia simply asked what Evelina wanted to do.

Evelina sighed, "It's not that I'm hesitating. After so many years, there's too much entanglement between us, not just marriage, but also shares, property, funds, trusts... so many things that can't be sorted out in a day or two."

So, she had to stay calm.

"I'm just a bit unwilling," Evelina leaned back in her seat and spoke again, "At my age, a marriage certificate is just a piece of paper, but if I tear up this piece of paper, it would provide convenience for Karen. I've been with Alex for over twenty years, and in the end, I have to leave and let her and her son benefit."

In Evelina's view, a woman like Karen, who chose to keep Alex's son back then, definitely didn't do it out of love. She must have had other reasons to keep the child.

Or, she was just a gambler, betting that Alex would succeed one day so her son could inherit the Wilson family and Alex's property.

"You are a rational person. I believe you can handle this well." Cordelia patted Evelina's hand.

Evelina looked out the car window, feeling a chill in her heart.

She didn't expect Alex to be such a habitual liar.

After being together for over twenty years, all the trust she had built in him seemed to collapse in an instant.

People really couldn't make mistakes, even little ones, as they left a scar in their shared lives.

An indelible scar.

The Douglas family.

Claire was still deliberately making things difficult for Ethan and Jasmine, not allowing Jasmine to enter the banquet hall.

"Ethan, if you insist on bringing Jasmine in, I can't explain it. Your father said she is not worthy of entering the Douglas family." Claire looked troubled.

Annabelle stood by watching, sneering but saying nothing.

"Don't talk to me; I have a cleanliness issue." Ethan looked unwilling.

The surrounding guests were watching the drama, and when they heard Ethan say that to Claire, they started gossiping.

"Ethan has never respected her."

"I heard she was a mistress before marrying Howard."

Claire felt very embarrassed and clenched her hands in anger. "Ethan, since you chose to attend your dad's birthday, you better be prepared. Jasmine has a criminal record and is shameless. Don't think about entering the Douglas family."

Ethan glanced at Jasmine. "I find she has half of Shakespeare's qualities."

Jasmine didn't quite understand. "Which half are you talking about?"

Ethan raised the corner of his mouth, didn't make a sound, and just mouthed one word.

Stupid.

Jasmine immediately understood and couldn't help but laugh, hugging Ethan's arm tightly. "Where do you learn all these ways to insult people?"

"What do you think I do during boring meetings?" Ethan laughed indulgently.

Jasmine covered her mouth. "I thought the CEO was always working, but it turns out you're learning how to curse."

Claire clearly hadn't caught on yet, and by the time she did, everyone around was already laughing.

With her fingers trembling in anger, Claire pointed at Ethan. "I see; the Douglas family kicked you out, and you haven't reflected on it at all!"

"You have no right to make Ethan reflect." From outside, Evelina walked in, exuding a powerful presence.
