Chapter 891 Lily Begins to Deal with the Cunningham Group
"Then may I ask, on what grounds are you advising me? If it's just as a fellow student, it seems you wouldn't be this concerned about me. When something is out of the ordinary, there must be a reason. You might as well state your purpose directly," Hestia looked at Lily and spoke quietly.
Lily also looked at Hestia and smiled. "As expected, a woman chosen by Edward is definitely not a simple person."
Hestia frowned and said nothing.
"We're not close enough for me to be overly concerned, but I'm offering this advice out of genuine goodwill. I don't want you to get innocently involved. I like you; you remind me of my past self," Lily said calmly.
Hestia had a shadow of her past self.
Innocent.
"Spouses are a community of interests. Your advice lacks sufficient grounds. No matter what, Edward and I are already on the same side. My unwavering commitment is to Edward and me; our shared interests will always come first, and I will never betray that commitment to help outsiders." Hestia made it clear, warning Lily not to target her.
Lily quietly looked at Hestia and smiled. "Actually, I envy you."
She once naively believed that hard work and a patron's favor would guarantee a stable life.
She had also considered turning a fake relationship with Edward into a real one, even if she had no feelings for him, hoping he would fall in love with her.
But Edward had no desire or curiosity about her, only cooperating simply and interacting with gentlemanly politeness.
It was truly enviable, these women who could find happiness, who could make good men fall in love with them and protect them.
Lily's smile deepened. From the bottom of her heart, she wanted to destroy them.
She was jealous of these women who came from similar backgrounds and had similar experiences, yet were deemed worthy of happiness.
While she had to rely on herself.
Indeed, different choices inevitably led to different destinies.
"Hestia, do you really think there's love in wealthy families? Don't be too naive."
Lily didn't say much more. She stood up, not taking Hestia seriously, just wanting to sow discord. If she couldn't, she didn't care much.
"Lily, whether there's love or not doesn't matter. People don't live on love alone. I never believed in so-called love, but maintaining our original intention and kindness is very important," Hestia stood up and looked at Lily. "Doing bad things for a long time will eventually lead to self-destruction. If Edward gets hurt because of you, we won't sit idly by."
Lily laughed. "Hestia, you're too naive. You're just a recent graduate. You don't understand the cruelty of the workplace and society. When you do, come talk to me again."
Watching Lily leave, Hestia calmly adjusted her glasses.
Edward hadn't lied; there was definitely something wrong with Lily.
In fact, if Lily hadn't come to her, she might have doubted the truth of Edward's words. But Lily came to her, trying to sow discord, to make her leave, to distract Edward.
This instead confirmed that Edward's words were true.
All problems must be viewed and analyzed dialectically. She was not only Edward's wife but also an employee of the Cunningham Group's legal department. She had to plan ahead for the company.
Since Lily wanted to compete with the Cunningham Group for the Silverlight City project, she would definitely make other moves.
Recognizing her limited capabilities, Hestia prioritized safeguarding the Cunningham Group, meticulously managing contracts and public relations to avoid any legal missteps.
Early the next morning, Hestia received a call from Marlon.
"Hestia, get back to your workstation as soon as possible. There are too many internal projects in the group recently, and our workload has increased."
"Okay, Marlon. By the way..." Hestia got up and went to the corridor, avoiding Edward. "About Edward, what I asked you before..."
"Don't worry, I didn't hear anything. You're just an employee of the legal department to me. I only recognize work attitude," Marlon said proactively on the other end of the phone.
"Thank you, Marlon."
Relieved, Hestia hung up the phone. She really didn't expect that she was the one with the biggest connection.
Hestia went into the ward, prepared to confront Edward about her recent internship success, but his obvious workload softened her resolve.
"This project must be flawless!"
Edward's left hand was still in a cast, and he had been on conference calls from morning till night.
It was the busiest time for the Cunningham Group. His accident at this time could indeed delay many things.
Fortunately, Edgar was in Silverlight City. Although all competitors underestimated Edgar, he was clearly someone who didn't show his sharpness. With Edgar and Nolan around, the Cunningham Group wouldn't be in chaos.
Lily thought that Edward's accident would throw the Cunningham Group into disarray, but she was too naive.
"Take a break," Hestia poured Edward a glass of water. "I checked tonight's flight. If you're okay, I'll go back first. It seems the company needs me more."
Edward finally had a moment's peace, but Hestia's announcement that she was leaving deflated him instantly. "Hestia, are you mad at me?"
Hestia shook her head. "I was very clear from the beginning of our marriage: love is something you can't manufacture; it either happens or it doesn't"
After all, she wasn't someone who lived on feelings.
"After all this time, do you really have no feelings for me?" Edward looked a bit disappointed.
Hestia lowered her head and thought for a moment. "There are some."
Edward laughed in exasperation. "Not much?"
Hestia nodded again.
She was someone who spoke her mind, finding it more convenient for communication.
She wasn't good at lying. "When you had the accident and didn't answer my calls, I was actually very worried."
Edward looked at Hestia, holding her hand tightly. "During the car accident, I was also very scared. I was afraid that if I died, you would be sad."
Hestia frowned, finding the word 'death' very jarring. "Don't say such inauspicious things."
Edward smiled. "Can't you come back to the country with me? I need someone to take care of me. Do you trust a nurse?"
Hestia thought for a moment. "No, work is more important."
Edward sighed helplessly, he wasn't as important as work.
Lily's residence.
"Mrs. Powell, Ethan and Edward have returned to the country," the assistant walked up to Lily. "You instructed us to set traps in the Cunningham Group's project plans from the inside. Our people have succeeded. Their content review and legal department will have a hard time discovering it."
Lily's fingers lightly tapped the cup. "Don't underestimate the Cunningham Group's legal department. I heard Hestia is in their legal department. Have you checked their interpersonal relationships?"
The assistant nodded. "This person named Primrose doesn't get along with Hestia. The entire legal department knows they've had multiple confrontations."
Lily smiled at Primrose's information. "Good, then start with Primrose. We must sabotage the Cunningham Group's project. Only if they lose can we win."
"The Cunningham Group has the Raymond Group backing them. Without someone to counterbalance the Raymond Group, the Cunningham Group is hard to deal with," the assistant reminded Lily. "Mr. Murray suggests you find a way to win over Vincent, the adopted son of the Hamilton family. He is determined to destroy the Douglas Group and doesn't seem to be on the same side as Ethan."
