Chapter 773 The Tacit Cooperation Between Steven and Richard
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out from not far away.
Everyone looked outside warily.
Raj panicked too, furrowing his brow at Dev. "What are you standing there for? Go check it out!"
The men who had intended to harm Sita stumbled out, still struggling to pull up their pants, all rushing to find weapons and becoming alert.
Mark furrowed his brow, looking around, trying to figure out.
If a gang war broke out, he had to get Lisa out of there. "Get up, come with me."
Lisa shook her head, taking the opportunity to break free from Mark and rush into the room, lowering the suspended Sita.
Suppressing the nausea from the smell of blood, Lisa asked anxiously, "Sita, are you okay?"
Sita was clearly exhausted, and there was a syringe on the table.
They had drugged her.
But fortunately, she hadn't been raped yet.
"I'm taking you out of here," Lisa whispered, carrying Sita on her back and heading out.
"What are you doing with her?" Mark furrowed his brow.
Raj would never let a traitor live.
"She's still alive!" Lisa said angrily.
Mark sighed, helpless.
He had two kids, but neither one was like him.
Daniel might be brainless, but he was kind, and Lisa also had some sense of morality.
Gunshots and screams echoed continuously.
It was a nearby gang coming to take over the territory.
They often had gang wars.
But this time, it was Steven leading the other gang over.
"Let's go!" Seeing Steven's men were too fierce, Raj got into the car, shouting angrily.
Lisa took the opportunity to place Sita in a safe spot. She couldn't let Raj and Mark escape, so she had to follow them.
Otherwise, if they escaped to another place, it would be too difficult to locate them again.
Looking at the unconscious Sita, Lisa could only pray that the people from that gang would treat Sita well.
"Steven tricked me!" Dev, injured, spat out a mouthful of blood.
"What happened?" Raj furrowed his brow and asked.
Dev cursed in the car, shivering as he wrapped his hand with his clothes. "That guy with Steven is pretty skilled, looks familiar, either a cop or ex-military, cut off one of my fingers."
Dev was determined to kill Richard the next time they met.
"Richard was in the military, now a professional bodyguard. Without some skills, do you think he'd dare follow Steven to Aurora Peninsula?" Mark snorted. "We were all careless. Steven escaped with bare life, he wouldn't trust anyone."
Lisa said nothing, trembling in the corner.
She had only seen gunfights in movies, never in real life.
Moreover, she was born in a peaceful country, never imagining she'd see real dead bodies.
It was bloodied, tortured to death.
Mark wanted to comfort Lisa, but she screamed in shock, curling up and hiding to the side.
Dev and the others escaped, this place was just a temporary shelter. The place they were fleeing to was their secret base.
And that's where the police were looking for as well.
Lisa didn't know whether to be relieved that they were finally going to Raj's main base, but she was also increasingly terrified.
Once there, if she was exposed, she feared she would die a violent death.
On the other side, Steven looked coldly at the captured men. "Did Raj escape?"
"Yes," his subordinate nodded.
"Now, we should be able to force them back, follow them," Steven said in a low voice.
He was also helping the police find Raj's base.
There were too many crimes, hostages, contraband to be destroyed, and all the evidence needed for the death penalty for Raj and Dev!
"Steven!" A subordinate found Sita. "Sita!"
Steven visibly panicked, quickly turning and running over. "Sita?"
Sita was drugged and still unconscious.
"What are you standing there for? Take her to the hospital!" Steven shouted, losing control.
He had survived in Aurora Peninsula because Sita had saved him.
She was a kind local girl who had volunteered to go to Raj's community, gain his trust, and pass messages for him.
"Luckily, we came early, or else Sita..." the subordinate choked up.
Steven angrily punched a tree trunk. "Marley!"
He had long known Marley was untrustworthy, and Richard had also suspected Marley and Asha.
Before going abroad, Richard had secretly met Steven.
They had fought, Richard being a former special forces soldier, skilled but relying on tactics, while Steven, having survived in Aurora Peninsula, fought unpredictably. In the end, neither gained much advantage.
However, that fight made Steven reassess Richard.
Lying on the ground, Richard asked Steven, panting, "Do you really think the people around you are trustworthy?"
"Tell me," Steven sneered.
"That day, the waiter pushing the wine cart could get close to you, the woman at the party could bypass Asha to approach you. These dangers could have been absolutely avoided. It's not a work mistake, Marley and Asha have issues."
Richard had already been wary of Marley and Asha when he was in Silverlight City.
Steven didn't respond to Richard, he indeed trusted no one.
So, when he had someone take the melon seller away and send him back to the community, Steven's men were already watching Marley and Asha.
Then, Steven and Richard led the other gang members over, forcing Raj and Dev to flee.
They intentionally forced them to retreat, driving them back to their main base, exposing it to the police.
"This place is hell," Richard said in a low voice, looking at the aftermath of the fight.
Sita was drugged, covered in torture marks, it was clear what would have happened if they had been a moment later.
"No one can stay sane in such an environment," Richard said, walking into the room, quickly stepping out with a furrowed brow.
Even though he had participated in many actions, he still couldn't stand this place, it was a visceral disgust.
Steven said nothing, he knew what Richard wanted to say.
"So, when Betty was kidnapped and held for a year, you clearly had the ability to save her. For whatever reason, you let her be trapped in such a horrible place for a whole year," Richard said in a low voice, feeling he had gone too easy on Steven during their fight.
Now, he really wanted to fight Steven again.
"At that time, I couldn't control anything. Kavi needed to use Betty as a bargaining chip to negotiate with me, so he wouldn't dare harm her. I wanted to settle everything and then personally bring her home," Steven said in a low, hoarse voice, filled with regret.
He knew his decision back then had trapped Betty here for a year.
This place was a nightmare.
So Betty went mad, lost her sense of security, and her so-called mental illness was all because of this environment.
No one could be tormented in such an environment for a year and not go mad.
