Chapter 438 Is Ethan in Trouble?
"What's going on here? You guys are really bold, fighting right in front of the police station." the policeman scolded angrily.
The man retorted, "Sir, we didn't hit him. He suddenly came up and started hitting us."
The policeman frowned. "With a group like yours, he wouldn't just come up and start hitting you for no reason."
The group remained silent.
Jasmine cautiously raised her hand, still somewhat scared of the police. "I have a video. These people have been targeting us for a while and even tried to take me away. The towel in his hand has illegal drugs on it. They are human traffickers or professional kidnappers."
The policeman frown deepened, and he became instantly alert. "Hand over the towel."
The group's faces darkened. They only now thought to destroy the towel, but it was too late. The policeman immediately pinned the leader to the ground.
Seeing the situation turn bad, the others tried to flee in their car, but this was the police station.
Jasmine's body was still trembling. She had been very brave, but she was naturally timid.
Given her timid nature, she had already mustered a lot of courage today.
Jasmine knew that after today's incident, Sophia would be very angry and would cause trouble for her mother, Cordelia.
So, when Edgar suggested they go out for dinner, she chose the barbecue place across from the police station.
Because it was safe there.
Jasmine had worked there before.
At that time, her identity as the Wilson family's fake daughter had been exposed, and the Wilson family had disowned her. She was pregnant, seen as a disgraced woman, and had to work to support herself.
She had been bullied so much that only the police station felt somewhat safe.
But later, Claire and Daniel framed her for extortion. The police investigated her past Facebook messages and 'proved' that she had indeed threatened the Douglas family and the Wilson family for a total of five million dollars.
It was a significant amount, constituting extortion.
But clearly, when Jasmine was kicked out of the Wilson family, she didn't even take her phone.
It was Karen who accessed her Facebook and created those so-called pieces of evidence. It was a setup.
But Jasmine pleaded guilty in court.
Because Jasmine knew that the person who framed her and fabricated the evidence was the woman she had called "Mom" for twenty-one years, one of the people she loved the most.
When she realized her mom hated her, when she realized her mom wanted to destroy her with her own hands, she stopped struggling.
In fact, Jasmine had many ways to prove her innocence, but she ultimately gave up.
Maybe only by destroying herself could she make Karen feel better and repay her sins from all these years.
After that incident, Jasmine became afraid of the police.
Whenever she saw them, she would tremble all over, unable to speak or explain herself.
Actually, after being with Ethan, Jasmine had improved a lot. She was slowly healing, slowly being comforted.
At least now, even though she trembled with fear in front of the police, she could clearly articulate her points and preserve evidence.
"Jasmine, are you okay?" Edgar asked nervously, looking Jasmine up and down, afraid she was hurt and that the Cunningham family would kill him.
Jasmine shook her head. "I'm fine."
The police went after the criminals, and the remaining policemans took the captured ones to the station.
Probably it was the fastest response time ever.
Jasmine cooperated with the police to upload the evidence and give her statement.
Edgar had a minor injury, a cut on his face from a broken bottle during the fight.
"You're quite the fighter," Avery looked at Edgar and said with a smirk.
Edgar was trembling, and Cordelia, Evelina, Nolan, and Edward were all on their way.
Edgar felt like he was in danger tonight.
"I've been tough since I was a kid," Edgar was almost in tears. He had always been a troublemaker and could take a beating, but not from so many people.
"Is she your girlfriend? Look how scared you are," Avery asked nonchalantly.
"My younger sister. Our family treats her very well. If I hadn't brought her out, she wouldn't have been frightened. I'm in big trouble now," Edgar shivered.
Before Avery could respond, she saw Edgar hiding behind her in terror.
Outside, Nolan walked in with his long legs, pointed at Edgar with a stern face, and warned, "I didn't tell Mom and Evelina. If you bring Jasmine to such a dangerous place again, I'll break your legs."
Edgar hung his head, looking aggrieved.
He didn't expect this to happen.
Avery glanced at Edgar but said nothing. After all, it was their family matter.
Nolan had just gone to the investigation room when Edward quickly walked in.
Edward also pointed at Edgar.
Although he didn't say anything harsh, Edward still reminded Edgar, "Be careful next time."
Edward sighed, feeling helpless.
When Jasmine left Sunshine Restaurant, Edward had told Edgar to bring bodyguards. Edgar thought having bodyguards would make Jasmine uncomfortable and insisted that it was safe across from the police station.
"You don't seem very popular at home," Avery asked with a smile.
Edgar, like a scolded puppy, hung his head and said nothing, feeling guilty.
If he hadn't brought Jasmine out, this wouldn't have happened.
When they arrived at the police station, Jasmine's face was as pale as a sheet.
He had called Ethan, but Ethan didn't answer.
Edgar felt he had let everyone down and was too embarrassed to go home.
Seeing Edgar's pitiful state, Avery sighed and, on a whim, asked, "Are you homeless? Come with me." After saying that, Avery was surprised at herself.
Edgar was also stunned, looking at Avery with her smoky eye makeup and full-sleeve tattoos. "Go with you?"
"Are you scared? Afraid I'll hurt you?" Avery raised an eyebrow.
Edgar couldn't stand being talked to like that. "What am I afraid of? I won't lose out."
Avery said nothing and walked straight out of the police station.
Edgar looked back and saw Jasmine coming out with Nolan and Edward, then bolted out. He was too embarrassed to face Jasmine.
Meanwhile, Jasmine came out of the investigation room looking for Edgar. "Where's Edgar?"
"Don't worry about him. He's too embarrassed to see you," Nolan snorted.
"It's not Edgar's fault. I chose the place," Jasmine quickly explained.
"I knew that Sophia would make a move. Since she was going to do it sooner or later, it's better to let her do it across from the police station."
This way, they could keep Sophia in check for a while.
Nolan and Edward nodded and changed the subject. "Ethan hasn't answered his phone since earlier. At this time, if you're not home, he wouldn't be asleep."
Jasmine took out her phone and called Ethan, but he didn't answer either.
Her heart tightened, and she felt a sudden panic.
Ethan never ignored her calls. Could something have happened to him?
"Ethan never ignores my calls. He even answers during meetings," Jasmine's voice was hoarse, and she trembled all over.
She was panicked, feeling that damned sense of helplessness and fear again.
In that moment, Jasmine suddenly realized that Ethan was both her armor and her weakness.
