Chapter 542 Complex Feelings

She felt awful, and her head was spinning.

After a few steps, Amelia fainted in the small park outside Nolan's place.

In this cold weather, if no one found her, she could die from hypothermia overnight.

"Miss?"

"Miss?"

Amelia heard someone calling her name in a daze.

"Nolan."

She thought Nolan had come to find her and felt like crying.

Tears welled up, hot and burning.

She wanted to open her eyes but couldn't.

At Nolan's place, the family doctor checked Fiona and sighed. "We can't delay her treatment any longer."

Nolan stood by the bed, rubbing his temples. "Can't we treat it conservatively?"

"Thyroid cancer is usually mild with a high survival rate, but her job causes long-term sleep deprivation and high stress. Plus, she's so young," the doctor reassured Nolan.

Fiona's illness was discovered after Lawrence drugged her drink. Fiona, already allergic to alcohol, fainted and nearly died.

Luckily, she was rescued in time.

During her hospital stay, Ryan William had her undergo a full check-up, revealing serious health issues.

Before this, she rarely had check-ups due to her busy schedule.

"I'll try to persuade her to leave the entertainment industry," Nolan said softly.

Acting was Fiona's dream. If she couldn't keep acting or had to leave the Cunningham family, she wouldn't know how to live.

Nolan sat silently by the bed for a long time.

He blamed Lawrence for everything, as Lawrence's actions had worsened Fiona's condition.

Thinking of Amelia made Nolan agitated, especially since she was Lawrence's daughter.

He didn't want to take it out on Amelia, but the fact that she was Lawrence's daughter couldn't be changed.

Just like Fiona, if she really was Sophia's daughter, that fact couldn't be changed either.

"Nolan." Fiona woke up, looking at Nolan. "If I really am Sophia's daughter, would you hate me?"

"Don't overthink it," Nolan frowned, scolding softly.

Fiona didn't speak, just quietly looked at Nolan. "Nolan, you should hate me."

"This has nothing to do with you."

"But unknowingly, I still stole twenty years of Jasmine's life. If it weren't for me; if Sophia hadn't given birth to me and swapped me with Jasmine, her life would have been so much better."

Others might not understand, but Fiona knew that Cordelia was a great mother who could provide Jasmine with immense emotional and material support.

She should have grown up loved by three brothers, like a little princess.

"Nolan, you shouldn't keep protecting me. Your care should be for Jasmine alone. Because of me, you have to split your care between us, but all your care should be for Jasmine." Fiona's voice choked.

"Don't think too much, I won't abandon you." Nolan stood up, ruffling Fiona's hair. "Get some sleep. Besides, without a paternity test, you might not even be Sophia's daughter. Everything is still uncertain."

Fiona gave a bitter smile. "Nolan, is this Schrödinger's cat?"

Nolan didn't respond. Maybe he was selfish; he didn't want Fiona to be repeatedly hurt and was afraid something might happen to her.

Nolan knew he had issues. For twenty years, he gave the care meant for Jasmine to Fiona. Even raising a pet for that long would create feelings. He couldn't just cut her off like Evan did.

"Get some rest."

Nolan closed Fiona's door and walked to the living room, suddenly remembering Amelia.

Could she still be outside?

He quickly opened the door and looked out. The park was empty.

He sighed in relief, rubbing his temples. He'd been a bit crazy lately, getting involved with a girl in her twenties.

It's good she left; at least she knew when to give up.

There was no future between him and Amelia. Better she left now than get more entangled.

In the Cunningham living room, only Cordelia and William remained.

Jasmine took the kids and Ethan to the yard.

Edward and Edgar were also outside.

No one dared go far, worried Cordelia might lose control.

"Mom wants a result, and she's not wrong," Edward said, still believing their mother was right.

"The world isn't black and white; there's no clear right or wrong," Ethan replied, shaking his head. Just different perspectives.

Jasmine squatted on the ground, drawing circles with a stick.

"Nolan might be afraid this would upset Fiona. After all, Fiona is innocent," Jasmine said softly, not wanting Edward and Nolan to clash.

"Different paths," Edward frowned.

Jasmine looked up at Edward. "Edward, thank you for never giving up on finding me."

Edward looked away, guilt in his eyes.

Though they never stopped searching for Jasmine, they found her too late, causing her to suffer.

She spent five years in prison, enduringunimaginable hardship.

"I can't help but resent Fiona, just like I hate Sophia," Edward said, rubbing his temples.

It was like when Evan mistakenly thought Jasmine was Benjamin's mistress' daughter and swapped his own sister's life. The feelings were complex and filled with hate.

In short, it was hard to describe.

"But you won't hurt Fiona," Jasmine said, shaking her head. "Fiona's identity is special. We can only try to minimize her suffering, but we can't change her background or her mother's crimes."

She thought, 'We'll just have to deal with it as it comes.'

Cordelia wanted a result, and Jasmine did too.

"I'll contact Fiona and have her do a paternity test," Edward said solemnly.

"Nolan is too protective of Fiona. If you don't discuss it with him and directly ask Fiona for a paternity test, will he..." Edgar worried Nolan might be upset.

Edward frowned. "If he still sees himself as part of this family, he should think about us. I'll try not to hurt her as long as she wasn't involved in Sophia's past plans and won't do bad things with Sophia in the future."

It all depended on Fiona's choices.

Now that Evelyn's identity was exposed, Sophia would definitely contact Fiona.

Sophia wouldn't easily give up on the Cunningham family's assets.
