Chapter 656 Don't Cry, I'll be Back

"Don't look back," the voice behind her rasped, gripping Jasmine's hand as she reached for the light switch. "Don't turn on the light."

Jasmine froze, unable to move for what felt like forever.

Even though the voice had changed, she knew it instantly.

It was him.

Only Henry could have forced him out.

Her eyes burned, and she stood there, paralyzed.

She was too emotional, her body completely locked up.

Ethan, behind her, was breathing heavily, weakly holding onto her and leaning on her shoulder.

Jasmine didn't dare to look back, afraid that if she did, it would all vanish like a dream.

He had a strange scent, more like a strong medicinal smell.

Tears welled up uncontrollably, and Jasmine cried, trembling all over, not daring to turn around and hug him.

Ethan raised his hand and wiped her tears from behind. "Don't cry. I'll be back."

Jasmine shook her head desperately, wanting to turn around and see him.

But Ethan disagreed. "Don't look at me. Don't turn around."

"It's on me," Ethan whispered, slowly placing his fingers on Jasmine's belly. "Jasmine, I miss you so much."

Jasmine couldn't hold it in anymore and burst into tears.

"Take care of yourself and the baby. Wait for me to come back, okay?" Ethan asked softly.

"Okay." Jasmine nodded, holding back her grief. She would wait, no matter how long it took.

"I've always been here." Ethan's grip on Jasmine tightened.

Jasmine could feel Ethan's body trembling; he seemed to be in great pain, enduring it.

Jasmine guessed that he was seriously injured.

"My bad. I shouldn't have pushed you so hard to come out and meet me." Jasmine cried, shaking her head. Now that she had seen Ethan, she was scared.

"I wanted to see you." Ethan's arms tightened around Jasmine, kissing the back of her neck. "Jasmine, I love you."

Jasmine closed her eyes, her tears burning hot.

"I love you too."

When she opened her eyes again, Ethan was gone.

She stood there, numb and stiff, not daring to turn on the light or leave. Slowly, she squatted down, feeling his lingering presence in the air.

He had come back.

He had always been there.

In the parking garage below, Ethan, wearing a mask and with his hat brim pulled down, leaned unsteadily against the wall.

Connor got out of the car, looking at Ethan angrily. "You must be crazy!"

Ethan said nothing and quickly got into the car.

"If you don't want to live, just spit it out! Do you have any idea how hard it was to save you? Now you go see her. You think if you kick the bucket, she won't be crushed?" Connor suppressed his anger.

"You're covered in severe burns all over! You haven't even crossed the critical stage, and you have the guts to knock out my guys and bolt! You might as well die. It would be more comfortable!" Connor had never been this angry before.

It was simply reckless.

The explosion had caused severe burns from Ethan's back to his neck, with a long critical period. It took over a month for the wounds to slowly heal, and he still hadn't completely recovered.

If he got infected again, leading to shock and organ failure, he wouldn't survive!

Ethan sat in the car, saying nothing, clearly struggling to hold on.

He avoided seeing Jasmine because he spotted her with Henry, but he had been eager to see her since he woke up.

In the hospital's sterile room, he had no phone and couldn't see any news from the outside. He only knew he couldn't let Jasmine be afraid or worried; he had to see her.

He had to see her at all costs.

"If I come, they will be wary and won't dare to harm Jasmine and the baby directly." Ethan's voice was hoarse and increasingly weak.

"You're just..." Connor drove away, wanting to scold Ethan but unable to.

Sighing, Connor quickly drove towards the hospital.

"She didn't take the money?" Nolan asked.

Elijah shook his head. "Amelia didn't, but her mother and brother did."

Nolan frowned, saying nothing.

"Nathaniel picked her up," Elijah said softly, clearing his throat. "If you really can't let go, go and bring Amelia back."

At the hospital, Nolan hesitated to leave and considered taking Amelia with him, but upon his return, she was already gone.

Nathaniel had picked her up.

"Why should I be unwilling? Shut up." Nolan raised his hand to rub his temples, stubborn.

Elijah didn't dare to speak, tiptoeing to look outside. "Sir! Amelia!"

Nolan stood up abruptly and looked outside.

Amelia had returned with Nathaniel, just outside Nathaniel's villa.

She was wearing a white dress and looked thin and frail as if a gust of wind could knock her down.

Nolan was stunned, his fingers clenched, feeling inexplicably heartbroken.

Amelia was once as lively as a bouncing rabbit, but she had changed significantly since then.

"It looks like they're moving things. Are they moving out?" Elijah tiptoed to look outside.

Nolan's face darkened, and he pushed Elijah aside, looking outside with a grim expression.

"If they move out, it will be hard to find her again if you want to." Elijah continued.

Nolan said nothing, snorted and walked straight out. "She's been fooled and doesn't even realize it."

"I packed hastily, so I had to grab a box from home. We'll take it to the vet for a check-up and shots later." Nathaniel came out with a box at the door, inside which was a stumbling yellow kitten.

"Wow, it's so pitiful." Amelia's attention was completely drawn to the little creature, and she carefully poked it with her finger.

Nathaniel smiled. "I've packed your things, and the moving company will come for mine tomorrow. Let's go."

Leave here, far away from Nolan.

Amelia nodded, holding the box in her arms. "Okay."

"Amelia!"

Just as Amelia was about to get in the car, she heard Nolan's voice, and her body froze. She turned to look.

Nolan stopped, having run over, but he tried to remain calm. "Come here!"

He always used a commanding tone.

Amelia said nothing, lowered her head, and got into the car.

Nolan frowned, clearly displeased. "Amelia! Don't make me repeat myself."

Amelia acted as if she didn't hear him, quickly closing the car door, not wanting to listen to him.

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, looking at Nolan provocatively. "Nolan, if you keep bugging her, it's rude. With your status, you won't have any trouble finding women. Don't lower yourself."

Nolan felt inexplicably panicked and stepped forward to open the car door. "Amelia, get out. Let's talk."

Amelia, holding the box in her arms, didn't look up. "Nolan, we have nothing to talk about."
