Chapter 289 Sophia Starts to Threaten Annabelle
Banquet hotel.
Cordelia persistently discussed the issue of shares with Willian. Annabelle felt guilty and excused herself to go to the bathroom.
Annabelle hid in the bathroom for a while, looking at herself in the mirror, she raised the corners of her mouth.
After today, no one would ever doubt her identity again.
She was the Cunningham Family heiress, now and in the future.
Cordelia would leave everything to her, and she would get everything she deserved.
Once Cordelia took the shares from William's hands and gave them to her, everything would be settled.
Then she could finally relax.
"Annabelle."
Annabelle touched up her lipstick and prepared to go out, but a woman walked out from the bathroom stall.
This woman was Sophia.
She smiled at Annabelle in the mirror and gently spoke, "Cordelia is lucky to see you in her lifetime, as it can make up for the pain of not finding her daughter."
Throughout the years, Cordelia lived in agony, while Sophia reveled in her misfortune.
If Cordelia hadn't always occupied the position of Mrs. Cunningham, Sophia would have been William's lawful wife a long time ago.
In Sophia's eyes, if Cordelia didn't let her live a good life, she would never let Cordelia live in peace either.
"My mother found me because we were blessed by the heavens," Annabelle said calmly, not wanting to be entangled with Sophia.
Seeing Annabelle truly acting like a young lady, Sophia laughed out loud. "Do you really think you are the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family?"
Annabelle stopped in her tracks, nervously turning her head to look at Sophia, a hint of fear flashed in her eyes. "What do you mean?"
"Hahaha," Sophia laughed arrogantly, adjusting her appearance. "Do you really believe that nurse who thinks you are Cordelia's daughter? She also knows that you're a fake."
Annabelle's face instantly darkened.
Nobody was a fool. The head nurse who participated in the baby switch at Westing Town accepted Annabelle's money before admitting that she was the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family.
The Harper Residence could find that head nurse, but couldn't find out who was behind her instructing the switch.
"So, it's you," Annabelle suppressed her panic and laughed. "It seems we both have a secret that must not be known by others."
"Yes, we are allies with a common purpose, and of course, we need to strategize together seriously to maximize our interests," Sophia said as she approached Annabelle. "How about we cooperate?"
"What do you want?" Annabelle frowned.
"I can help you secure your position as the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family so that no one has reason to doubt your identity anymore. I can also help you get rid of the real eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family so that you have no more worries," Sophia said with a smirk.
"The real eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family." Annabelle panicked, unable to hide her anxiety. "Do you know who she is?"
"Of course I know," Sophia smiled meaningfully.
"By helping me, you're not just trying to make Cordelia acknowledge a fake daughter, right?" Annabelle asked in a low voice.
"To see Cordelia suffer, to watch her cry for someone who is not her real daughter, it would make me very happy," Sophia flicked her hair and laughed. "I will make Boheng give you shares, but you have to sign an agreement with me secretly transferring all the shares to my name."
Sophia's ambition was extreme; she wanted the Cunningham Family's shares.
Annabelle narrowed her eyes; she felt that this woman's heart was truly ruthless.
If Annabelle only enjoyed playing some pranks, Sophia was truly intelligent and devoid of sentiment.
A woman had to reach Sophia's level in order to secure a position by Willian's side.
Otherwise, with Willian's level of infidelity, how could he only have Sophia as a woman by his side?
But Sophia had been able to stand by Willian's side all these years, bewitching him completely. She had even instigated him to cut ties with his own father and become enemies with his wife.
She was truly amazing.
"You need to think carefully about what is more important to you, the Cunningham Family shares that don't belong to you in the first place, or the position you hold as the eldest daughter of the Cunningham Family. After all, once your true identity is exposed, you know what Cordelia is capable of," Sophia said calmly, urging Annabelle to think it through.
Annabelle clenched her hands tightly, furrowing her brow. "I will consider it carefully."
Sophia smiled contentedly. "I hope we can have a pleasant collaboration. You are a smart woman, and you possess the same courage and bravery I had in my younger days. Seeing you is like seeing a mirror image of myself, and I admire you."
Annabelle remained silent, not saying a word.
"Take your time to think about it."
On their way home, Wilson took Ethan to ride the subway.
Ethan was not happy throughout the whole journey.
"Are you angry?" Wilson chuckled. "Zhao also needs to be paid, but now with Howard's scheming, you don't have the money to pay Zhao."
Wilson had been paying Zhao half a year's worth of salary, considering that he had been with Ethan for so many years. Now that Ethan was deceived by Howard, he couldn't afford to hire a driver for the time being.
As for the cars in Ethan's garage, they had all been seized by the bank, or so they heard.
Wilson felt fortunate that Mitchell had taken away the most expensive ones before the garage was sealed.
Ethan snorted, but he felt secretly pleased. It seemed that pretending to be poor was the right choice because Wilson had started taking charge of his finances and was pushing him to regain his confidence and shine on his own.
Although they were currently living in a rented house, Ethan felt the warmth of a home.
Wilson said he was her redemption.
But for Ethan, Wilson was also his redemption.
Redemption was never one-sided.
Just like love, it can only be called love when both sides devote themselves to it.
"Since you've accompanied me on this subway ride, shall I buy you something delicious when we get off?" Wilson tried to comfort Ethan. She wasn't quite skilled at comforting men, but she tried to comfort Ethan in the way she comforted Justin.
Ethan looked at Wilson with a touch of bitterness.
He glanced at the crowded subway car, feeling the tightness in the space.
He held Wilson close to him, and whispered in her ear, "I've never taken the subway in my whole life until now. How will you make it up to me?"
Someone passed by, and Wilson moved closer to Ethan, seeking shelter in his embrace. "We'll have to take the subway often from now on."
Ethan smiled wryly, thinking about the days ahead when they would be riding the subway regularly.
Wilson took the initiative to hold Ethan's hand. "But no matter what you do, even if you're in the abyss, I'll be there with you."
With one hand protecting Wilson, Ethan stared out the window, lost in thought.
The subway was crowded and noisy, but Ethan saw a different way of life for the first time.
At this time, most people were rushing home after work, only to start another busy day the next day.
In the past, he knew that workers had it tough, but he thought they were all just working for money and didn't have much emotion.
But when he truly encountered the lives of these people at the bottom of society, he could understand the difficulties they faced to survive.
"If we only got married so that I could protect you, and now that I have nothing, why don't you choose to leave?" Ethan whispered. "What if I can't protect you and be your redemption?"
Wilson remained silent for a long time before embracing Ethan. "Ethan, do you think redemption is someone reaching out from outside the abyss, pulling you out of hell, and leading you to the light? But such redemption is unequal from the beginning because the person outside the abyss has always lived in the sunlight, they don't understand the horror of the abyss. They can let go of me at any time and let me fall back into the abyss."
This was probably her best explanation for Daniel.
"True redemption is walking together in the darkness. Even if we both feel pain, we are still willing to accompany and support each other through the hardships."
