Chapter 201 Missing
Before departing for the resort, he had cautioned Liam not to disturb him unless it was absolutely necessary.
"Mr. Ethan, Richard and Miss Lisa called, saying Justin and Casey snuck out after school, and no one knows where they went. Erin almost tore the school apart when she couldn't find the kids..." Liam stammered, his worry extending beyond Justin and Casey to Erin's potential rampage through the school.
Ethan's gaze darkened momentarily, puzzled by Justin's uncharacteristic behavior—there must be a reason prompting a typically well-behaved boy to suddenly leave.
Perhaps the Douglas family were stooping so low as to involve the children in their schemes to force him back.
"That despicable, down to the bone."
"Mr. Ethan?" Jasmine looked at him nervously.
"Pack up, we're heading back downtown," Ethan said, rising to his feet and scooping Jasmine up with one arm.
Meanwhile, in Silverlight City, at a kindergarten.
"Miss Lu, Miss Lu, please calm down. We will check the surveillance immediately," the principal pleaded, wiping sweat from his brow while attempting to stall.
"You must be looking to create trouble," Erin retorted, having already requested to see the footage and sensing the principal's stalling tactics.
"Miss Lu..." The bodyguard circled the principal, who fearfully led them to the security room.
The surveillance footage revealed Justin and Casey slipping out of the classroom before school ended and heading straight into a blind spot in the surveillance.
"Miss Lu, you see, these children... they ran out on their own." The principal attempted to evade responsibility.
"During class, your teachers let the children run out, and you have the nerve to tell me this?" Erin grabbed the principal by the collar. "I'm telling you, with such a huge security risk at this school, you'd better be ready for jail time!"
Terrified, the principal stared at Erin in horror. "This... this is a blind spot, we didn't realize that it just happened to be here..."
"Just happened to be what? Such a large school and every ten steps there's a camera, but just not here? And these two kids just happen to take this route? Five-year-olds, do you think they are spies or something?" Erin pushed the principal away and instructed the bodyguard.
"Call the cops, let them investigate why the kids could just brazenly run here during class."
After her tirade, Erin stormed off with a scowl on her face, heading toward the rickety old warehouse indicated by the security feed.
At the Warehouse.
Justin had found what they had been looking for, and clutching their little treasure, a basket, he prepared to leave with Casey. "Casey, I found it—the basket."
Casey, covered in dust and dirt from rummaging around, exclaimed with delight, "Justin, you're so smart."
"Let's go." Justin took Casey's hand, attempting to open the door to leave, only to find it locked.
Casey grew frightened. "Justin, it's really dark in here."
Justin's young face creased in displeasure as he frowned and knocked on the door. "Hello? Is anybody there?"
Outside, there was no response.
Justin glanced at his wristwatch, a phone watch that Ethan had bought for him.
It was already after school hours.
Uncle would be worried if he couldn't reach them.
"I'm scared, Justin," Casey said, beginning to cry.
"Don't cry. I'll call Uncle," Justin reassured as he tried to use his phone.
"No signal," he observed with a hint of irritation after checking his watch.
"Justin, what do we do now?" Casey sobbed, trying to hold back further tears.
Thinking for a moment and looking at Casey, who was struggling to suppress his sobs, Justin said confidently, "Don't be afraid. We're still at the school, and it's safe here. If Uncle can't find me, he'll definitely check the school security cameras. There are cameras all around this little warehouse."
His father had taught him not to panic but to stay calm and think things through when faced with a dilemma.
"But, but, I'm scared," Casey whimpered, his eyes reddening as he fought to avoid bursting into loud sobs, worried that it would upset Justin.
"What should we do now, Justin?" Casey clung to Justin, tear-streaked and snotty in his little overalls, because he was frightened.
Justin regarded Casey with disdain. "Just cry louder if you have to."
Casey blinked, his tears still clinging to his long eyelashes.
"If they check the cameras, they'll definitely come looking for us. If you cry out loud, my Uncle will hear you," Justin said with the air of someone far beyond his years.
"Justin, why aren't you crying?" Casey asked obediently, gazing at Justin, now surprisingly finding himself unable to cry.
"I don't cry," Justin replied, his voice low.
His mom was in jail, and Uncle had raised him. Justin had always been very mature for his age.
"Justin, I can't cry anymore," Casey said, his voice laced with helplessness.
“I heard there's a monster in the little Warehouse that gobbles up children,” Justin teased Casey with a spooky face.
Casey burst into loud tears.
