Chapter 371 Serena Eventually Died
Silverlight City, Hospital.
Ethan arrived at the hospital to see Serena.
Karen had someone contact Ethan, insisting that he come to the hospital.
These days, Karen had been keeping watch, looking much worn out.
"You called me here, what do you want to say, just say it," Ethan spoke in a deep voice,
Serena glanced palely at Karen. "Mom, let me talk to Ethan."
Karen nodded and walked away.
"I know you are aware of my background; I am not Karen's daughter but the illegitimate daughter of May and Benjamin." Serena's voice was hoarse and weak.
Ethan sneered and said nothing, looking at Serena's current state; only "serves you right" could describe it.
"You must really want Jasmine to see my jokes, right?" Serena laughed, a feeble one.
Perhaps before one dies, they become more clear-minded and open.
"In fact, I also look down on myself." Serena's gaze wandered. "I am insecure, I am afraid, I am jealous, jealous of the radiance on Jasmine, afraid that she will expose me, afraid of returning to the hard life, so I wanted to destroy Jasmine."
"Then you deserve to die." Ethan's voice was heavy with pressure.
Serena clenched her fingers. "I know your mother's death was no accident; it was orchestrated by Claire and Howard together."
"Do you think I came here to listen to your dying reflections?" Ethan was impatient; he wanted evidence.
"I know who the accomplice is; once you find him, you will find the evidence of your mother's murder." Serena's voice was weak. "But I have a condition."
"Go ahead." Ethan's cold eyes spoke.
He knew Serena wouldn't easily tell him.
"I'm dying soon; I won't last more than a few days; don't tell Karen about my identity before I die. I want to experience her favoritism towards me one more time." Yes, Serena was very selfish, truly selfish.
"After I die, if Karen learns the truth, please find a secluded place to bury me." Serena's request left no room for more.
"Is that all?" Ethan spoke in a low voice,
Serena smiled. "Karen has done so many things to hurt Jasmine; I know you will definitely seek revenge; you will make sure Karen knows the truth."
"You seem to have gotten smarter as you near death." Ethan did not deny it.
"Promise me." Serena knew that once Ethan promised, he would definitely follow through.
"As long as the information you provide is valuable, I promise you."
" In the Douglas family, remember the nanny who came with your mom when she married in? The one who was always by her side, the one she trusted the most. " Serena's breath quickened.
Ethan frowned. "You mean Rose Ruby? That's impossible."
Rose couldn't conceive and was almost killed by domestic violence; it was Ethan's mother who saved Rose and kept her by her side.
She was one of the most trusted people by Ethan's mother.
"Ethan, you understand human greed better than I do." Serena's face grew even paler.
"I heard Claire say, to completely eliminate the threat, that Rose has been on the run for many years, very good at hiding; Claire's people have not found her; if Rose is still alive, if you can find her, she must have what you are looking for. Otherwise, Claire wouldn't have people searching for her for so many years without giving up."
Ethan took a deep breath.
In the world of the aristocracy, there was nothing truly trustworthy, not even the people around you.
Perhaps Ethan's mother had indeed trusted one of the wrong people.
"Can I ask you one last question?" Serena's heartbeat began to quicken; the ECG machine started to alarm.
"Yes." Ethan frowned.
"Jasmine, whose child is she really?" Serena persistently wanted to know; she had asked May before, but May refused to say anything.
Serena's feelings towards Jasmine were mostly jealousy, wanting to ruin Jasmine.
But towards Annabelle, there was only hatred.
"Jasmine is not May's daughter."
Ethan took a step back and glanced at the time.
'The Cunningham family.'
Serena was shocked, but she understood.
Closing her eyes slowly, Serena smiled a broken smile, tears streaming down as she laughed.
Serena thought that Jasmine was just a picked-up child, destined to live in the dark like her.
But Serena never expected that the reason Jasmine could lead a better life was actually because she came from a good family.
Serena was truly, incredibly wrong.
Not long after Ethan left, Serena's ventilator and ECG machine started alarming.
Opening her eyes, she looked at the dim lights.
Serena wanted to see Daniel one last time before she died, but Daniel refused to come see her.
It was ridiculous.
Pretending to love each other for so many years, wasn't Daniel tired?
It turned out that Jasmine was the daughter of the Cunningham family, and Annabelle was just an interloper, an ordinary person taking someone else's place.
Serena seemed to find some peace.
Because Serena knew that with Ethan around, he would never let Jasmine be harmed again.
One day, Jasmine would stand tall and shine brightly again.
And Annabelle would become the joke of all Silverlight City.
Even though Serena wouldn't live to see that day, she could rest assured.
"Serena!"
Karen and Evan rushed in, their voices choked up.
Serena struggled to reach out, to touch the affection that shouldn't have belonged to her.
Evan's favor, Karen's favoritism.
Everything felt like smoke, about to dissipate.
"Mom, I'm sorry, Evan, I'm sorry, I lied to you."
"I'm sorry."
"I lied to you."
After Serena finished her last sentence, her fingers fell, and amidst the alarms of the ECG, it flatlined.
Karen cried hoarsely, kneeling by the bedside, crying loudly.
Evan weakly took two steps back, leaning against the wall.
Such a vibrant life, gone just like that.
Everyone had a part in Serena's death.
The doctor finished resuscitation, shaking his head. "My condolences."
Serena was gone.
The last tear fell from the corner of her eye, and Serena's body completely stiffened.
Perhaps, before she died, Serena regretted it.
Regretting her ridiculous life.
Chasing after wealth and status, plotting the conspiracy of the true and false heiress with May.
Driving away Jasmine, ruining Jasmine, taking everything from Jasmine.
Served her right.
Serena was going to hell.
Definitely.
Downstairs, in the car.
Jasmine sat in the car, waiting for Ethan to return.
Ethan got into the car, pulling Jasmine into his arms.
"What condition did she propose?" Jasmine's voice was hoarse, a bit worried.
Worried that Serena was manipulating Ethan.
"She's dead," Ethan spoke softly,
Jasmine was stunned, slowly wrapping her arms around Ethan.
Serena had actually died like that.
In the moment of Serena's death, the hatred dissipated.
Life was truly a mysterious thing.
No more hatred; it was actually about letting go of yourself.
Ethan tightened his grip on Jasmine's hand; Serena was dead, and next up was Karen. He wanted to see how Karen would truly lose it.
