Chapter 466 Deborah and Jasmine Finally Meet
At Capital Hospital.
"He's seriously injured. We've treated the wounds, but he needs to stay for a few days for observation," the doctor told Lily before leaving.
Lily stood by the bedside, staring at the unconscious Xavier, silent for a long time.
Eventually, Xavier woke up, rubbing his temples to ease the headache.
He slowly opened his eyes and saw Lily standing by the bed with a fruit knife.
Xavier frowned and asked coldly, "You saved me?"
He didn't seem grateful.
Lily snapped out of her thoughts and forced a bright smile. "Glad you're awake. You were covered in blood last night; it scared me to death."
Xavier stayed silent, staring at Lily for a long time.
Lily pretended to be innocent, nervously trying to please him. "Want some water?"
Xavier propped himself up on the bed.
Lily poured him glass after glass of water. "You lost so much blood; you must be really thirsty. Drink up."
Xavier drank both glasses.
But when it came to the third, he hesitated and looked up at Lily. "You could've just left me to die."
Lily looked innocent. "What are you talking about? I couldn't leave you to die."
Xavier said nothing, putting down the glass.
People who had lost a lot of blood shouldn't drink large amounts of water right after waking up.
"You saved me. Name your demands," Xavier offered.
Lily looked uneasy, staring at her hands and biting her lip before speaking. "Tyler, Thomas Powell, they all seem scared of you."
Xavier's face darkened as he looked at Lily more carefully; she seemed familiar.
"Can you help me? Just let me follow you and eat with you at school, even if it's just for a few months," Lily pleaded, her eyes tearful but determined.
Out of humanitarianism, she wouldn't leave Xavier to die, but she had other plans.
Those who had hurt her before would pay the price.
She wouldn't endure silently anymore.
Xavier frowned but said nothing.
Lily thought he would refuse. After all, Xavier had a strange character. Even though rich kids like Tyler tried hard to befriend him, he always kept to himself. He preferred to be alone and always remained expressionless, intimidating others.
"Three months," Xavier reluctantly agreed. "I won't owe you any favors."
Lily was surprised he agreed. But it was good that he did.
"If there's nothing else, you can leave now," Xavier said again.
He would have his butler handle things.
Lily hesitated. "I paid for the medical expenses."
Xavier rubbed his temples. "This card, you can use it freely during the three months."
Lily smiled sweetly. "Thank you, sir."
Watching Lily leave, Xavier rubbed his temples. If he hadn't been partially conscious last night, he would've been fooled by her.
She was quite the actress.
Last night, she had raised a stone to smash him, but how did it end up hitting the wall?
She seemed to hate him so much, yet she saved him.
It was interesting.
Despite his curiosity, Xavier couldn't recall when he had offended her.
He had no memory of it.
He only knew about Tyler and those scoundrels.
"Sir!" Xavier's butler, Jack Campbell, arrived in less than twenty minutes, rushing into the ward. "How are you?"
"I'm not dying yet. I knew the actions in Country H; my eldest sister is a bit too impatient." Xavier sneered, leaning back on the bed. "Forget it. Look into the identity of the woman who brought me to the hospital last night."
Jack nodded. "Yes, sir."
At Stanford University.
Jasmine hurried back to school after getting her certificate.
Given how outstanding Deborah was, Jasmine couldn't afford to be any less.
Recently, Jasmine applied for a scholarship exam. If she passed, she would be the third person, besides Ethan and Samuel, to receive this scholarship at Stanford.
It would directly impact the value of her degree and serve as a gold standard in the industry.
"Ms. Cunningham, I'm here. You've worked hard. Here's some coffee." Liam eagerly met Jasmine during her break.
At this moment, he was like Jasmine's sidekick.
"Liam, don't be like this. Be natural," Jasmine whispered.
"Yes, Ms. Cunningham. Of course, Ms. Cunningham," Liam replied, determined not to let Jasmine hold a grudge.
He had to double his efforts to make Jasmine remember his good side and forget the past wrongs.
Jasmine sighed and found a secluded spot to sit down. "What did you find out about Deborah?"
Liam cleared his throat and said, "Deborah, born to—"
"No need for so much detail. Just the main points," Jasmine interrupted.
Liam nodded. "Deborah is an illegitimate daughter of the Hawthorne family, a child secretly born to Owen's mistress. Owen never leaves any evidence behind, but Deborah's mother was clever, thinking she could use the child to blackmail Owen."
He added, "Unexpectedly, she was dealt with by Owen. Deborah lost her mother while still an infant. The Hawthorne family didn't dare to acknowledge her publicly, so they let her be called Deborah and grow up as an outsider to the Hawthorne family."
"Originally, Deborah couldn't inherit Owen's shares, especially since Owen's wife had given him a son and a daughter," Liam continued, sitting across from Jasmine. "But Deborah is smart. She cleverly used the Hawthorne family's young master, Connor, who is only a few years older than her, and then got close to Ethan."
Liam hesitated. "That was a misunderstanding. They were just business partners."
Jasmine nodded. "Go on."
"I don't know the specifics of their cooperation, but I do know that Deborah later distanced herself from Ethan. She was hit by a car while saving him and then returned to Country M. She has been furthering her studies there and hasn't come back."
Jasmine remained silent.
Deborah's intelligence lay in the fact that she had been preparing herself during her years away from Silverlight City.
She had been working hard to improve herself, both academically and professionally.
While Jasmine was still in prison, Deborah, even though she was in a sanatorium, was still free. She could apply for school and various honors and win numerous awards.
She made herself a hot commodity in the business area.
She became someone who could stand beside Ethan without being criticized.
"Ethan has no special feelings for Deborah. I can vouch for that," Liam said earnestly, trying to show his loyalty to Jasmine. "Ms. Cunningham..."
Jasmine gave Liam a helpless look and laughed.
Just as Liam made Jasmine laugh, they saw a woman approaching, flanked by two others.
Jasmine frowned, and her intuition told her the woman was Deborah.
Moreover, there was an inexplicable air of provocation about her.
