Chapter 696 Connor Gives Shares to Avery

Owen was furious; calling the police was tantamount to courting death.

"Owen, you don't need to call the police. I've already done it for you," Jasmine said calmly.

Owen was stunned for a moment, looking at the police officer walking in from outside. "Connor, what do you mean?"

Connor remained silent, his gaze cold and stern.

"Owen, you are suspected of coercing a minor and face multiple charges. Come with us," the police officer said, ready to take Owen away.

Owen's face instantly darkened, and he looked at Connor with a cold, threatening gaze.

"Connor! You've got some nerve now?" Owen sneered. "Very well, it seems you're planning to go against me?"

Connor clenched his fists. He knew Owen's character; even if he lost, he would never let Connor off easily. He would drag him down to hell with him.

"Do you think this means you've won? How naive." Owen laughed, standing up to leave with the police.

He wasn't afraid of prison; it was just a delay tactic by these people.

"Owen, make sure to reform yourself well in prison." Jasmine stood up, warning Owen before her gaze fell on Deborah.

Deborah was a bit flustered. "Dad, I'll find a way."

Deborah needed Owen out because he was her support. Without him, as an illegitimate Hawthorne, holding Cunningham Group shares would be risky. Plus, she had a bet agreement with Avery and couldn't afford to lose.

"Why panic?" Owen said in a deep voice, telling Deborah not to worry.

Deborah took a deep breath, and after Owen left, a slight smile appeared on her lips.

She realized she might not need Owen anymore.

"Without Owen, what are you?" Jasmine retorted with the same words Deborah had once used to mock her.

Deborah turned to look at Jasmine and smiled. "Do you really think you've won? Who told you I live off Owen?"

Deborah walked over to Avery. "The shares I hold were fought for by Ethan back then. I'm very grateful."

Deborah deliberately said this for Jasmine to hear.

Jasmine clenched her fists. Back then, Deborah had exchanged the favor of saving Ethan for shares in the Hawthorne Group.

Ethan did help her, but so what?

"Unfortunately, you signed a bet agreement with Avery. Within the stipulated time, whoever secures more projects wins. And the loser bets their shares. The company's legal team and executives are witnesses," Jasmine said calmly.

Deborah laughed, mocking Avery. "Does she have any chance of winning?"

"So far, I've secured over twenty projects, while Avery, how many does she have?" Deborah said calmly, then continued. "Jasmine, you're actually quite naive and foolish. You don't deserve Ethan. This is the business world, where interests and leverage reign supreme. What I can obtain is that Avery doesn't have the capability for. I'm just waiting for the time to come for Avery to hand over her shares obediently."

Avery had been watching Deborah with great interest.

"Grandpa, I know you won't give me any of your shares. In that case, I won't get involved," Deborah said, showing self-awareness. For now, she would let Connor and Marshall fight it out.

She only needed to get the shares from Avery and Owen to overpower Connor.

Moreover, Connor had no interest in the company. When the time came, she would find a way to get Connor's shares too.

She didn't believe Connor had no vulnerabilities.

After Deborah left, Jasmine turned to look at the grim-faced Marshall. "Owen is already suspected of crimes and has been taken away by the police. We must have solid evidence and confidence to do this. The final decision is up to you. The longer you wait, the more dreams you'll have that might never come true. You should make a decision soon."

Jasmine's words carried a hint of threat.

Marshall clenched his fists. "Connor, you've made some good friends."

Connor just smiled faintly.

"Owen is not so easy to deal with. I'm old," Marshall said, signing the contract and giving his shares to Connor.

Connor didn't even look at it and handed it to the lawyer for review.

He didn't want these shares; he found them burdensome.

"Good luck with that." Marshall snorted, turning his wheelchair stubbornly to leave.

"I want to ask you about something." Jasmine stood up and walked over to Marshall.

Marshall frowned, looking at Jasmine with displeasure. "There's nothing to talk about between us."

"Can you tell me about the conflict between you and the Douglas family?" Jasmine asked, looking at him.

Marshall's expression changed, and he lowered his head. "There's nothing to say. The Douglas family are all hypocrites."

It was clear that Marshall had deep resentment towards the Douglas family.

Jasmine knew the two families had long-standing grudges, but she wanted to understand the specifics.

If Owen was so easily dealt with, it meant he was likely not the person behind everything.

So who was the mastermind behind all the schemes?

Or was Marshall involved too?

But seeing Marshall now being controlled, he didn't seem like the mastermind.

"You don't want the conflicts of the previous generation to continue to the next. You've actually ruined two sons," Jasmine said meaningfully.

Owen was indeed ruined, and Connor had experienced too much by Owen's side.

Marshall's face grew darker, but he still said nothing, letting someone push him away.

Jasmine frowned, watching Marshall leave.

"He won't say anything," Connor said calmly.

"It's just not the right time yet," Jasmine replied. They hadn't pushed Marshall to the brink yet. When Owen couldn't get out, and the person behind the scenes continued to stir up trouble, Marshall would definitely speak.

"Owen is really not easy to deal with." Avery sighed, sitting in a chair. "Connor, be careful."

Connor remained silent for a long time before speaking, "If you can beat Deborah within the stipulated time and take her shares, I'll give you mine too."

It was as if he was pushing away a burden.

Avery was stunned; she thought she had misheard.

Owen, who had intended to kill his own father to get these shares, while Connor really promised those shares so easily?

"You're really joking," Avery said calmly.

"I'm not," Connor said seriously.

He really didn't want them.

"But we have a condition." Jasmine smiled, seizing the opportunity.

"Say it." Avery raised an eyebrow, knowing they wouldn't give up the shares so easily.

"Consider the shares as giving my bro a chance." Jasmine coughed.

Edgar had come to her drunk and crying, begging.

It seemed he was serious this time.

He had tearfully accused Avery of being irresponsible towards him.

Avery's eyes froze for a moment, raising an eyebrow. "Which brother?"

Jasmine smiled. "Edgar."

Avery's lips curled up.

It seemed Edgar wasn't so worthless after all.
