Chapter 932 Vincent and Liam Have Become Mortal Enemies
Facing the beautiful woman's provocation, Liam's anger flared - but only briefly.
He knew his limitations all too well. Fight Vincent? That would be suicide.
Liam quickly backed away from Vincent, scoffing, "Civilized people don't solve problems with violence. Nor do they steal other people's projects."
Vincent remained silent. Liam's misunderstanding only made Lily trust him more - probably why Ethan never told Liam the truth.
Liam was too transparent; everything he felt showed on his face. His resentment toward Vincent wasn't an act - he simply didn't have that kind of acting skill.
Lily knew this about Liam. She knew he couldn't fake such genuine anger. While Jasmine also showed disdain for Vincent, Lily wouldn't easily trust her, knowing Jasmine had acting abilities.
"Birds of a feather flock together," Liam continued, his words the only weapon he dared use. "Some people are just cut from the same rotten cloth."
Looking directly at Vincent, he added, "Mr. Hamilton and Lily make the perfect pair. What's that saying? 'Trash belongs with trash' - a match made in heaven."
Liam had gone too far. The alcohol had loosened his tongue, making him cross a line.
Even Jasmine tensed, knowing those words were excessively crude.
Lily's face darkened, but before she could pull Vincent away, his demeanor had already shifted to something frighteningly cold.
In one swift motion, Vincent grabbed Liam by the collar and pinned him against the wall.
The two men stood in a standoff, seconds away from violence.
"What do you think you're doing?" Despite his fear, Liam's anger prevailed. "Am I wrong? You were just an orphan that the Hamilton family took in. They raised you, and how did you repay them? By betraying Wesley and hurting Ethan! You don't deserve to call yourself human!"
Liam glared at Vincent with defiance, his eyes challenging: 'Go ahead, kill me if you dare.'
Selene was terrified, instinctively moving to protect Liam.
Maeve quickly stepped forward. "Stop, no fighting, please."
Vincent laughed coldly, staring at Liam. "The Hamiltons should have known they were raising a mad dog."
Though his grip remained tight on Liam's collar, Vincent ultimately couldn't bring himself to throw a punch.
Instead, he shoved Liam toward the trash can and turned away, his aura dangerously dark as he took Lily's hand. "We're leaving."
Lily clasped her hands together, looking at Vincent with concern and sympathy.
Selene glanced at Vincent, feeling an unexpected pang of pity. So he was an orphan too.
"Vincent," Jasmine took a deep breath, wanting to apologize for Liam, but knowing this wasn't the moment.
"Keep your people in check," Vincent warned Jasmine before stepping into the elevator.
Jasmine rubbed her temples. Vincent was clearly unhinged, someone who didn't care about others' opinions or misunderstandings.
But Liam had definitely crossed a line this time.
She wondered if Liam would feel guilty enough to beg for forgiveness once he learned about Vincent's sacrifices.
"Such a bastard..." Liam continued muttering curses.
"Let's go," Selene whispered.
In the elevator, Vincent leaned against the wall, his mood visibly dark.
Lily looked at him sympathetically, taking his hand. "People like them were born lucky. Raised in wealthy families, spoiled by their parents. They'll never understand people like us - how hard we've fought just to survive."
For survival, she gave up her dignity, taught herself not to care, and would kill if she had to.
Nothing and no one would stand in her way to the top.
Seeing Vincent's silence, Lily continued, "Vincent, I promise you, the Powell family will never work with the Murrays again. Trust me on this."
"Beck is vindictive. After being detained and having his reputation damaged, he'll strike back once he's free. I'm worried he'll come after you," Vincent sighed quietly. "We can't let the Murray family off the hook. When eliminating enemies, we must be thorough. Otherwise, when they counterattack, we'll suffer."
Lily felt touched. Even when angry, Vincent still cared about her welfare.
Seeing the hostility Liam and Jasmine showed toward Vincent only reinforced Lily's belief that Vincent was her true match.
They were alike—unaccepted, unwelcome, belonging to the same world.
"Vincent, only I understand you. I'm the only one who truly sees your pain," Lily embraced him.
They were meant to lean on each other.
"We'll climb to the top and crush everyone who ever looked down on us," she vowed.
Vincent glanced at her without responding, exiting the elevator. "I'm not in a good mood today. I need some time alone."
Lily moved to follow him.
"Lily, my mind is a mess right now," Vincent repeated.
"I'll be next door then. Call if you need anything," Lily replied, her voice breaking as she reluctantly gave Vincent his space.
Liam's words had clearly affected him deeply.
In his room, Vincent loosened his tie, his mood still dark. Liam's words had indeed struck a nerve, making him furious.
And what does one do with such anger? Release it, of course.
The root cause was Ethan, so Vincent needed to take it out on him.
He called Ethan.
"Mr. Douglas, I saw Jasmine at the Bellagio Hotel," Vincent said with a sardonic smile. "She was with Liam and some girls. I overheard Liam badmouthing you."
Ethan found Vincent tedious. "Is there a point to this call? If not, I'm hanging up."
"Ethan, Beck's in jail. That's a huge favor to your family. You owe me now, don't you?" Vincent said, loosening his tie.
"What do you want?" Ethan conceded, acknowledging that Vincent had indeed helped the Cunningham family by diverting some of the public pressure.
"What projects does Liam still have?" Vincent asked through gritted teeth.
"Why do you always target Liam? Pick someone else to harass. He's gone three months without performance bonuses because of you."
Taking Liam's projects meant taking his bonuses - a sure way to make an enemy.
"I specifically want Liam's projects," Vincent insisted childishly.
Ethan felt like he was surrounded by lunatics—each one acting more childish than the last. Honestly, even his sons Justin and Joe seemed more grown-up than these so-called adults.
"Fine. I'll send you Liam's project list tomorrow," Ethan said, casually betraying Liam's work.
All this time, Liam had been searching for the traitor who kept leaking information to Vincent, allowing him to precisely target Liam's projects.
He'd never guess it was Ethan himself.
