Chapter 303 Richard's Ex-girlfriend Committed Suicide
Jasmine smiled at Betty and proactively put her arm around Betty. She really liked Betty who was cool, and she wanted to learn from Betty.
Several socialites were retorted by Betty, but they didn't dare to offend her directly. After all, not only did she come from a powerful background, but she was also difficult to deal with. She had always been a troublemaker since she was young.
"Betty, your response seems somewhat exaggerated. We're all friends. Jasmine is also my friend. Today we are gathered here to chat and enhance our relationship. Your words are a bit harsh," Annabelle spoke softly with a look of ‘I have your best interests in mind.’
"Oh, your acting skills are so good. What prevents you from embarking on an acting career?" Betty retorted mercilessly.
Annabelle took a deep breath and knew she couldn't win an argument against Betty. After all, Betty didn't care about anything. She is famed as a woman of eccentricity.
"We are not friends, so don't pretend to be so nice," Jasmine gathered her courage to retort Betty.
She was really social anxiety, so she hid behind Betty.
"Jasmine, it was me who invited you to this banquet. I have always believed that we were the closest of companions. I never expected you to think this way," Annabelle's eyes turned red.
"Don't be friends with Jasmine. She is a fake heiress from the Wilson family, while you are the true heiress of the Cunningham's family. You are a noble princess, while she's just a bitch. You can never be friends with her, Annabelle." the woman next to Annabelle said disdainfully.
"That's right." others said.
"What you said is right. Although it's not polite to directly call Annabelle bitch, it is an accurate evaluation of her," Betty said as she pulled Jasmine away. "Little bitch, quickly thank her for the compliment."
Jasmine was spirited away by Betty before her laughter could bloom.
Annabelle and other socialites gritted their teeth in anger with gloomy faces.
"Those idiots," Betty raised her wine glass and took a sip of red wine. "They can't see where they stand in society. They think that marrying into the business world makes them exceptionally capable."
Jasmine patted Betty's back and comforted, "Don't get angry."
"Am I going to get angry because of them? They're not worth it," Betty glanced at Jasmine with resentment. "Richard's ex-girlfriend is back, which makes me a little angry."
Jasmine was shocked and said, " Richard's ex-girlfriend? The one called Aurora?"
"You know, too." Betty became even more jealous.
"Yes, I know that woman who wrote me letters when I was in prison," Jasmine whispered, "I never told my brother about this. She called me a burden to Richard, wishing I had a conscience. She even mentioned that my death in prison would be a relief for him."
Jasmine explained it quite delicately, but Aurora's tone in the letters was not good.
Aurora complained that her existence ruined Richard's reputation and caused him to take the blame for the rest of his life.
It also caused her parents to look down on Richard's background and forced them to separate.
Betty’s brow furrowed and spoke in a serious tone, "Tell me honestly, after reading her letters, did you do something to harm yourself?"
Betty's gaze was sharp.
Jasmine lowered her head and remained silent, but she could never forget that those letters were more of a last-straw thing.
It was also the trigger for Jasmine's first suicide attempt in prison.
Seeing Jasmine's silence, Betty grew even more incensed and shouted, "Damn it! If she dares to come back seeking Richard, I will make her pay!"
Betty has never been so infuriated by a woman before. In the guise of being kind to Richard, this woman inflicts harm upon Jasmine.
She was truly selfish to the core.
"If Richard has chosen to be with you, I believe he won't do anything to hurt you," Jasmine said earnestly, looking at Betty.
"What if he doesn't like me and rekindles his old flame with Aurora?" For the first time, Betty lost her confidence.
Jasmine was somewhat surprised. It seemed out of character for Betty.
Jasmine thought Betty would say something cool, like if she dared to snatch my man, I would leave her with nothing.
But Betty seemed genuinely worried.
Perhaps Betty also realized that Richard had feelings for Aurora. Before being together with Betty, he was still in love with Aurora.
"Why aren't you confident?" Jasmine hugged Betty's shoulders from behind and made her look at herself in the mirror, praising, "You're so beautiful."
"I saw a separate album on Richard's phone. It's filled with photos, videos, and memories of him and Aurora together," Betty sarcastically remarked.
She had looked at his phone before they were together.
"Was it before you got together or after?" Jasmine asked.
"Before," Betty grumbled unhappily.
"Did you take another look at it? Maybe Richard has already deleted it," Jasmine chuckled.
"How could that be possible! He must treasure this album," Betty muttered softly.
"Can I ask you a question?" Jasmine was curious. "Betty, when did you start liking Richard? I get the feeling that you've liked him for a long time."
Betty hesitated, looking into Jasmine's eyes.
She had to admit that Jasmine was clever and perceptive.
No one would have guessed her secret.
"I haven't liked him for a long time. It was when he applied to be a bodyguard, and he protected me from a knife that I started liking him," Betty explained.
Jasmine nodded and didn't inquire further. But she felt there was something wrong.
Outside the banquet hall, Richard and Ryder stood as bodyguards, waiting outside.
"Richard, is it true that you and the boss have something going on?" Ryder asked, full of gossip.
Richard glared at Ryder, warning, "Stop prying."
"Come on, everyone talks about you two privately. We have long known of the boss's admiration of you. Otherwise, why else would Madison have searched for you for so long to enlist your services as a bodyguard?" Ryder laughed and bumped Richard's shoulder. "Did you already know the boss before?"
"You're being ridiculous. We met for the first time when I first arrived at the company." Richard laughed helplessly. When these people got together, no good conversations would happen. He added, "Don't talk about the boss like this anymore."
"Richard, you're denying it already? Come on, I saw your photo in the boss's room before you even arrived." That day, there was a sound coming from the boss's room as Ryder was patrolling in the living room. Upon the faintest sound, he promptly rushes over and found Betty drunk and falling on the ground.
When he called the nanny to help Betty up, he saw a photo on the floor, which was of Richard.
Thus, upon their initial encounter, he found Richard strangely familiar.
Ryder remembered only recently that the boss and Richard had gotten close.
"A photo? Are you kidding?" Richard was stunned for a moment. Did Betty have his photo before he came here to be a bodyguard?
That was a joke.
He didn't even know Betty at all.
He and she were always from two different worlds.
It was impossible.
Richard's phone rang.
"Hello, Madison?" he answered.
"Richard! Are you free? Come to the Golden Valley Medical Center. Aurora has committed suicide." Madison urged.
