Chapter 505 Annabelle's Final Act of Revenge
"I'm all about Arnold right now. Cordelia can wait; To take Cordelia down, I need to target Jasmine," Sophia reminded Annabelle.
"This is your last shot to make a comeback," Sophia said, giving Annabelle a chance.
"Help me get rid of Cordelia and secure Cunningham Group shares. Once my son takes over Arnold's assets in Silverlight City or the Muskow, we'll be in control. The Douglas family will be out."
Annabelle was cornered. The Harper family was gone, and she had lost her support. Daniel and Claire would definitely push for a divorce.
"Do you need me to step in, or can you handle it?" Sophia asked Annabelle.
"I can handle it for now," Annabelle sneered. "My parents' deaths aren't as simple as they seem. They held a lot of leverage in Silverlight City. The secret my dad told me before he passed away keeps Howard in line."
That secret was the fatal evidence against Howard. Annabelle didn't know where her parents hid it, but she could still bluff Howard.
"I can help you get rid of Jasmine and throw the Cunningham family into chaos, but you have to help me find out the truth about my parents' deaths and find the killer."
Annabelle wouldn't let her parents' deaths go unpunished. She knew Zelda had gone mad, but Zelda didn't have the guts to kill her parents; at most, she would drug them. Others were involved in their deaths. The drug wasn't even lethal.
"Alright, I'll help you investigate," Sophia agreed, smiling.
Annabelle clenched her hands and took the orange Sophia handed her.
"Oranges are sweet and sour, but too many aren't good," Sophia said as she got up to leave.
"Are you sure Arnold will acknowledge your son? Or that your son will acknowledge you?" Annabelle asked.
"My son is my flesh and blood; he'll see that I know what's right for him," Sophia said confidently. "As for Arnold, if he doesn't acknowledge his son, it would be unreasonable."
Whether Arnold acknowledged it or not didn't matter; she could sue for a paternity test. Once confirmed, the law would recognize Richard's right to inherit all of Arnold's assets. By then, Arnold could disappear.
Sophia no longer trusted any man; she only trusted herself. Money in her own hands was secure. Once Arnold was dead and her son had everything, it would be like she had everything.
Annabelle didn't speak until Sophia left, then shook off her thoughts and refocused. She couldn't afford to lose.
"You're incredibly strong, to have come through after being drugged," said Claire as she and Daniel entered the ward.
Before Annabelle could react, Daniel threw divorce papers on the bed. "Sign it."
Annabelle expected Daniel to want a divorce but didn't think it would be so soon. "Do you think with my parents dead, I have no one to support me?"
Daniel frowned and, after a moment, spoke. "Annabelle, there's no love between us, and now there's no child. If you sign the divorce papers, I'll make sure you get a fair deal."
Daniel wasn't lying; apart from not giving Annabelle any shares, he gave her half of the marital assets.
Annabelle glanced at the divorce papers and laughed sarcastically. "This is peanuts."
Daniel frowned, thinking he had already been generous. "What do you want?"
"What do I want?" Annabelle tore up the papers. "You think you can get rid of me that easily? No way."
Claire's face twisted in anger. "You think you're still calling the shots, bitch?"
Annabelle glared at Claire. "At least I can still deal with a mistress who killed the original wife."
Claire slapped Annabelle. "You're asking for it!"
Annabelle's face swelled, and she glared back at Claire.
"Don't make this harder," Daniel said sternly. "Sign the papers, and you'll have enough to live comfortably."
But Annabelle wasn't settling for a mediocre life. She called Howard. "Father-in-law, with my parents gone, my mother-in-law and Daniel are pressuring me to divorce and have even resorted to physical violence. I'm feeling extremely unstable right now. If I were to reveal some crucial information and then take my own life..."
"I'll be right there," Howard replied.
After hanging up, Annabelle smirked at Claire. "Let's wait for Howard."
Claire frowned, wary. What leverage did Annabelle have now?
Daniel also looked uneasy, sensing trouble.
Howard stormed in, slapped Claire, and glared at her. "Howard," Claire stammered.
Annabelle leaned back, looking aggrieved. "Father-in-law, what should I do? They want to divorce me."
"She's a bitch," Claire started, but Howard cut her off. "Shut up! Get out! No divorce without my permission."
Daniel wanted to argue but held back, seeing Howard's dark expression. He gave Annabelle a meaningful look, realizing she had some serious dirt on Howard.
"Annabelle, you've been wronged. Don't be too sad," Howard said, trying to comfort her.
Annabelle knew Howard was scared. If he found out she had nothing, he might kill her. She suspected Howard was involved in her parents' deaths because he seemed too nervous.
"I'll go back and deal with Daniel. He'll come take care of you," Howard said before leaving, not wanting more trouble.
After he left, Annabelle called her people. "Any updates on Ethan and Jasmine?"
"Ethan doesn't trust Connor and secretly met with another psychologist named Elbert."
"Check Elbert's background. I want everything on him," Annabelle ordered, trying to target Jasmine through the psychologist.
"And find that crazy Zelda. Send her to meet my parents as soon as possible!"
