Chapter 301 Richard's Ex-girlfriend Returns
"Richard, Richard, Richard!" Betty's knocking could be heard from outside the door.
Betty didn't like opening the door herself, even though Richard had given her the password and fingerprint access. But she was willing to stay with him in this humble rental house.
"I have a girlfriend now," Richard said in a deep voice, hanging up the phone to open the door.
Even though Richard didn't understand why Betty always wanted him to open the door, he was still willing to do it because Betty, outside the door, never failed to amaze him.
Betty was a beautiful woman, clearly raised in a wealthy family. From head to toe, she exuded elegance and sophistication, always catching people's attention in a crowd. Her beauty was bold yet not vulgar.
Tossing his phone aside, Richard opened the door in his casual clothes, lazily standing at the entrance, looking at Betty outside.
Betty came in empty-handed and immediately hugged Richard, clinging to him.
Richard quickly caught Betty, holding her with both hands, afraid she would jump.
"Richard, did you miss me?" Betty leaned against Richard.
Richard chuckled helplessly. "Miss, we just separated less than eight hours ago."
Betty snorted. "So, you don't miss me?"
"I do," Richard said with a low voice.
This was the first time he said such sappy words.
"Well, since you miss me so much, I'll give you a gift." Betty held the car keys in her hand. "Stop driving your old car, okay? I'm giving you a car."
In fact, Betty put some thought into buying the car. She didn't dare to purchase an expensive one and settled for a car worth around five hundred thousand dollars. She thought that at least it would make Richard more comfortable to drive and not hurt his self-esteem as much.
Betty knew Richard had a strong sense of pride, so she put a lot of thought into everything she did.
Richard glanced at Betty. "I'll drive your car when I'm picking you up and dropping you off. I don't need it when I'm alone."
He didn't want it, and he didn't want to take advantage of Betty even a little. It wasn't because he was afraid of gossip, but rather because he was afraid that his unequal relationship with Betty would eventually become a joke.
Since he chose to be with Betty, at least while Betty was still interested in him, he was serious. "The windows of your crappy car can't even be rolled up," Betty acted spoiled. "I know you don't want to take the things I give you, but I want to be nice to you."
Seeing that Richard remained indifferent, Betty angrily bit his neck. He was just too honest and dull. "Here's the deal, Justin doesn't need you to support him anymore. I'll keep your paycheck card, spend it as I please, and if you ever need money, come to me. Isn't that convenient? And consider this car bought with your money," Betty coaxed Richard into accepting the gift. "Plus, it took me forever to choose this car."
Richard couldn't say no to Betty. But he also knew that he couldn't be Betty's bodyguard forever. He wanted to start a business, and he had to work hard to reach Betty's level. Even though it would be difficult, he had to give it his all. He also wanted to be able to support her with his own abilities. He hoped he could let her continue to be so carefree.
"I have an idea," Richard hesitated for a long time but decided to tell Betty anyway. "I'm not trying to leave you." Betty looked at Richard with caution, squinting her eyes. "Isn't Ethan restricted by Stellar Enterprises? He has nothing now, but he wants to start a business and make a comeback. He approached me and wants to work together." Richard whispered, unsure of Betty's feelings toward him.
If Betty treated their relationship casually and was it was just a whim, then she definitely wouldn't want him to break free from her control. Betty gritted her teeth. "Is Ethan pretending to be poor and trying to take away my employees?"
"What do you mean?" Richard didn't understand. Betty changed the topic. "What I mean is that he definitely still has some of his assets reserved. He's not starting a business for himself, he wants to help you. He's actually a nice person."
Betty raised an eyebrow, appreciating Ethan's intentions. He wanted to help Richard. But she could also tell that Ethan truly loved Wilson; otherwise, why would he be so considerate? Ethan wanted to change Wilson's submissive nature, and he knew that Wilson cared about Richard. And Richard was currently at the bottom, lacking confidence.
He would not only not resist but also think about helping Ethan if they collaborated on starting a business with nothing. One had to admit, Ethan was clever. He had both Wilson and Richard figured out.
It was Ethan after all. If she had only pretended to be bankrupt and played the victim, would Richard have treated her better?
With that thought, Betty suddenly became interested.
Or maybe she should continue to squander the Willer family's fortune?
"You support him?" Richard was surprised.
Betty placed her hands on Richard's face. "Did you think I wasn't serious about our relationship?"
Richard remained silent.
Betty spoke again. "If I hadn't been serious about you, I would have been unhappy with you pursuing other things. Because I want to keep you by my side, unable to escape my control, never to slip away from my grasp."
Richard's gaze burned into Betty's eyes.
"But I am truly serious about our relationship," Betty continued, rubbing Richard's face. "No matter what you want to do, I support you. I want you to become better."
"Why?" Richard looked at Betty. "Why me?"
Richard had never been able to understand why Betty would be interested in him. Was it because he had desperately saved her out of gratitude?
Thinking carefully, Richard felt there was nothing outstanding about himself that would make a girl as excellent as Betty like him.
"Just because I like you. Why do I need so many reasons?" Betty averted her gaze and didn't say anything more.
Richard always felt that Betty was keeping something from him. Moreover, Betty had many secrets.
For example, although she was already married, her first time was given to him. This meant that during the years she was married to the man in M Country, they had never been intimate.
But if her ex-husband didn't love her and that's why they were never intimate, then why did he write a will and leave all his estate to her?
Betty's life was like a puzzle that couldn't be deciphered.
"Ring-ring!"
Richard's phone kept ringing.
At first, Betty didn't pay attention, but when she saw Richard hanging up without answering, she curiously leaned over. "Whose calling?"
"It's nothing, not important," Richard shook his head.
Betty let out an "oh."
"I have to attend a socialite banquet tonight, and I find it bothersome. Will you accompany me?"
Richard nodded. "I'll be waiting outside with the others."
As a bodyguard, he ensured that Betty entered the venue safely, but he couldn't accompany her inside.
Betty meant for him to attend as her male companion, and Richard knew that, but he declined.
She knew Richard didn't want to participate in such occasions, so she agreed with a nod. "Okay."
Richard's phone kept ringing, but he didn't answer. Betty was curious.
"Richard, I want to eat a burger. Can you help me make it?" Betty pushed Richard to make a burger.
Richard, who doted on her, nodded and went to the kitchen.
Betty quietly took Richard's phone and glanced at the unfamiliar number.
When the other person called again, Betty answered.
"Hello?"
