Chapter 717 Daniel Wants to Make It Up to Jasmine
If it weren't for Jasmine, Emily wouldn't have switched jobs to join the company Ethan set up for Jasmine, become a shareholder, or have the successful life she had now.
Jasmine's luck was meeting Ethan, and Emily knew her life changed because she met Jasmine. Ethan was Jasmine's light, and Jasmine was Emily's.
"I'm a bit scared that we and Lily will eventually drift further apart." Jasmine was actually panicking too.
The few people who once thought of supporting and comforting each other were drifting further apart.
"I have no great ambitions. No matter where Lily goes, I will always be behind you. I am your friend and partner." Emily smiled to comfort Jasmine.
Jasmine's eyes reddened, and she nodded with a smile. "Emily, it's so good to have you."
Without Emily, it would have been difficult for her to get through those tough days.
So, whether it was love or friendship, it had to be mutual.
"Fool." Emily always thought Jasmine was silly, too simple, too kind.
If Lily ever went against Jasmine, Emily would still have needed to help Jasmine guard against her.
Power could corrupt, especially someone like Lily, who had been downtrodden and timid her whole life. Once she tasted power, she might have become greedier than Jasmine, who had once been privileged but fell on hard times.
Emily worried Lily might go astray.
Only Lily knew how Xavier died; others were just guessing.
Despite Xavier's death, Daniel and Mark became more active, still confident they could secure a contract with the Powell family.
"Daniel, where does your confidence come from?" Jasmine asked.
Daniel didn't speak.
His eyes were full of confusion. He only knew Xavier, they had drunk and played together before. But they weren't very close. But at least he knew him, and he could think Mark was bluffing.
But Xavier suddenly died, and Mark was still so confident.
Where did his confidence come from?
Jasmine's question left Daniel dumbfounded. "I don't know either."
He had no idea where Mark's confidence came from.
"Daniel, you know very well that you are not Howard's son, yet you still want to stay here and fight for Bradley's shares. I really despise you more and more," Jasmine said coldly.
Daniel was confused. "I just want to know who is behind Mark. But Mark always contacts them behind my back. Jasmine, believe me, I don't really want to fight for anything."
He and Bradley were both curious about who was behind all this, so powerful.
Planning everything, almost destroying the Douglas family, and nearly ruining the Douglas Group.
Jasmine didn't believe Daniel at all. "I won't believe a word you say."
Daniel lowered his eyes. "Mark doesn't fully trust me. I feel like I'm just a scapegoat, making you focus on me."
Jasmine had thought that Daniel might just be a scapegoat, but the shares were indeed in Daniel's hands.
"Does Mark treat you well? You don't seem to accept him as your father." Jasmine deliberately provoked Daniel.
Daniel, once labeled an illegitimate child, was later recognized by the Douglas family but always felt inferior. Believing he was Howard's son gave him confidence.
Now, discovering he was actually the son of an assistant, he struggled to accept it. He rejected Mark, but with Claire's life in Mark's hands, he had no choice. He also desperately wanted to know who the mastermind was.
"I will ask Mark why he is so confident about the cooperation with the Powell family," Daniel said softly. "Jasmine, I really don't want the Douglas Group."
Jasmine ignored Daniel.
Daniel sighed. He just wanted to make it up to Jasmine, but he didn't dare to say it. If he did, Jasmine would definitely kick him out.
"Daniel, come here," Mark stood outside, call out.
Daniel frowned and followed Mark. "What's the situation with my mom? Did you arrange for someone to take care of her?"
Daniel knew Claire deserved her punishment, but Claire had attempted suicide several times and was in poor health. He just wanted Mark to find someone to take care of her.
Mark nodded perfunctorily. "I've already arranged for someone to take care of her."
Bringing Daniel back to the office, Mark spoke seriously again, "Whether you acknowledge me as your father or not, everything I do is for you. This cooperation will definitely succeed. I've already contacted Amara, and she will help you."
Daniel was shocked to see Mark. He had contacted Amara?
That was indeed impressive.
"Who is the Messiah behind you?" Daniel asked curiously.
Mark changed the subject. "Don't worry about that. You just need to know that I can help you get everything from the Douglas family."
"Since I'm not a son of the Douglas family, why should I fight for their things? I don't want them." Daniel looked away.
"Don't be ridiculous. Why not? It should have been yours!" Mark said angrily. "Don't be emotional. You've been Howard's son for so many years, obeying and working hard for him, and he didn't see it. But I did, and I feel for you."
Mark patted Daniel's shoulder. "I know you're capable, just lacking an opportunity. I'll arrange everything, clear all obstacles, and set things up for you. Just work hard and be yourself. You can manage the Douglas Group and lead the family out of trouble, making everyone believe in you.."
Mark encouraged Daniel, knowing all his weaknesses and insecurities. He could easily manipulate him, making it hard for Daniel to resist.
But Daniel knew he wasn't really a Douglas and didn't want to fight.
"Dad, let's leave the Douglas family and start our own business. I want to prove myself." He didn't want to rely on these underhanded methods.
Maybe he could succeed on his own?
"Naive!" Mark suddenly got angry. "Is it faster to climb from the hundredth step or from the first step? Start your own business? You'll never reach Ethan's level in your lifetime. Do you know why Jasmine chose Ethan over you? Because he stands higher than you!"
Daniel was stunned for a moment, lowered his head, and said nothing.
"You just need to listen and cooperate with me. I can definitely help you get everything you want," Mark said confidently.
He was too confident.
Daniel tentatively asked, "When do you plan to let me meet this so-called Messiah?"
