Chapter 585: Claire Wants to Kill Howard
Betty gave a nod, looking pretty pleased. "Yep, I'm your wife."
Richard let out a big sigh of relief.
"So, why'd I lose my memory?" Richard asked, staring at Betty, feeling like he could trust her for some reason.
He didn't get the scoop from anyone else, but he had a photo of Betty in his hand, and he knew that picture meant something to him.
"That chick who was bawling about being your first love and the one claiming to be your mom? Yeah, they had someone run you over with a car," Betty said, eyeing Richard. "If your noggin's alright, come home with me later."
Richard hung his head and nodded like a good boy.
He was scared of getting smacked, worried Betty might hit him.
Betty grinned, 'Despite what happened, he is super obedient.'
"Between me and that chick outside, who do you trust?"
Richard glanced at Betty. "Aren't you my wife?"
"Yep."
"Then I trust you," Richard said, dead serious.
Betty nodded, satisfied. "Alright, I'll get you discharged and take you home."
Richard tried to get out of bed, but his collarbone and shoulder were killing him.
Betty stared at Richard for a while, then looked away, her eyes getting all teary.
She didn't want to get all mushy in front of Richard, but she was barely holding it together.
Turning back to Richard, Betty's voice cracked. "Hug me."
Richard was stunned for a sec, his heart aching for no reason.
He got up and hugged Betty tight.
Betty clung to Richard's clothes, holding on for dear life. "Thank God you're not dead."
Otherwise, she didn't know what she would've done.
Outside the hospital room, Sophia glanced at Aleah, pulled her aside, and whispered, "Don't sweat Richard's amnesia. He forgot Betty and everyone else. You can make him fall for you again. Just remember how he fell for you the first time and make it happen. This is your last shot, so don't blow it."
Aleah bit her lip. She'd figure it out.
She knew Richard inside out. Now that he didn't remember anything, she was sure she could make him fall for her again.
The hospital room door opened, and Richard followed Betty like a lost puppy, ignoring everyone else and just trailing behind her.
Jasmine pointed at Richard in shock and then looked at Ethan. "Babe, Betty's got some serious skills. How'd she get Richard to be so obedient?"
Richard had lost his memory and was still so compliant.
"Listening to your wife is what a good man does; it's like second nature," Ethan said with a grin. "Even with amnesia, he knows better than to mess around, or he'll get smacked."
Jasmine couldn't help but laugh. "Thank goodness Richard's not in any danger."
She finally relaxed and shot a glare at Sophia and Aleah. "You should be grateful Richard's okay, or I wouldn't let you off the hook."
Jasmine held Ethan's hand. "Let's bounce."
Sophia and Aleah stood there, looking bummed. Richard's amnesia was their last shot, and Aleah had to make it count.
In Silverlight City, at the Raymond Group, Brandon was about to leave when he spotted Howard.
Lately, Howard had been dropping by every day, clearly keeping tabs on Brandon, worried he might side with Claire or Ethan.
As long as Brandon didn't agree, Howard could keep his spot in the Douglas Group.
"Mr. Douglas, why so much free time lately?" Brandon asked with a smirk.
"I'm getting old. The young folks are running the company now, so they don't need me anymore. Time for me to step down," Howard said with a smile. "Mr. Russell, got time for a round of golf?"
Brandon slapped on a fake smile and nodded. "Since Mr. Douglas is interested, why not?"
Howard nodded back and personally walked Brandon to the car.
The driver? Howard's illegitimate son.
"Mr. Russell," the guy greeted, all eager.
Howard introduced him with a grin. "This is Bradley Douglas. Would you please keep an eye out for him in the future, Mr. Russell?"
Brandon squinted and asked with a smirk, "Mr. Douglas, this young and talented Bradley, who is he to you?"
Howard laughed heartily, clearly proud. "Graduated from some fancy university in Muskow, a real genius, just as capable as Ethan. All my sons are top-notch."
Except for Daniel, Howard was pretty pleased with the rest.
"Mr. Douglas, your son?" Brandon acted all surprised. "Besides Ethan and Daniel, you got another one?"
"Yep, Bradley grew up in Muskow. I kept him under wraps," Howard spilled the beans. "He's my pride and joy, the one who'll inherit everything from me and the Douglas Group."
Brandon sneered inside. Just as he thought, Howard had other plans.
Howard thought he had Brandon wrapped around his finger, but Brandon was secretly recording the whole thing.
"That's awesome. Looks like the real future partner for my Raymond Group is right here," Brandon, playing it slick, smiled and added, "I look forward to working with you in the future."
"Mr. Russell, you're too kind."
Howard was super pleased and didn't hold back anymore. He brought Bradley to the Douglas Group, introducing him to all the big shots, clearly setting him up to compete with Claire.
After the golf game, Brandon headed back to the office and bumped into Claire as soon as he got downstairs.
He'd been swamped lately.
Brandon smiled. "Just had a round of golf with Mr. Douglas."
Claire's face fell, and she quickly stepped up. "Mr. Russell, he's getting old and can't keep running the Douglas family. The future of the Douglas Group lies with the young, and Daniel is the heir. You should weigh the pros and cons."
Brandon raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Daniel isn't Howard's only option."
Claire smiled confidently. "Don't worry, Howard and Ethan are at each other's throats. He won't hand over his shares to Ethan. Plus, he bragged in the company that if he couldn't get you to drop the project, he'd leave the Douglas Group for good."
Brandon shook his head, looked around, and pretended to speak cautiously, "Your family's got some serious drama."
Brandon pulled out the recording and played it for Claire.
Claire's face went even paler.
'Bradley? So the rumors in the company are true. Howard has an illegitimate son. Bastard, that bastard!'
Claire was so mad she was shaking. She gritted her teeth and said, "Mr. Russell, you're overthinking. The future heir of the Douglas Group has to be Daniel."
Claire gritted her teeth, turned, and stormed off.
She needed to get rid of Howard, and fast. That bastard had another illegitimate son? He had to go!
No way. Everything she worked for had to go to her son.
"Kill him!" Claire called Howard's assistant, Mark, her voice raw.
"I want him dead!" Claire gritted her teeth. "Today, you must kill him and his illegitimate son for me!"
