Chapter 644 Can Ethan Still Come Back?
Jasmine stepped out of her apartment and bam, she was on their radar.
No doubt, it was Mark and Claire's crew.
"Are Lisa and Casey okay?" Jasmine asked, her voice tight with worry.
She had to make sure the kids were safe.
"Don't sweat it," Ben nodded.
Jasmine let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She trusted Ben; he had been a rock since he showed up in her life.
Ben, her assistant, was always cool as a cucumber, never giving anything away.
"Is that car tailing us?" Tom, who had recently started dressing up and even wearing cologne, asked with a smirk.
"Yep," Ben nodded, easing off the gas. The car behind them slowed down too.
"Take the main road," Tom said, his carefree demeanor replaced with a serious frown.
Tom might act laid-back, but he was sharp when it counted.
Ben nodded and kept driving slowly on the main road, making the car behind them think twice about making a move.
"Even the main road isn't safe; they're too close," Tom said, glancing back at Jasmine. "Buckle up."
Jasmine nodded and hugged a cushion to her chest.
"What’s Mark’s game?" Ben asked Tom. "Everyone knows Jasmine's pregnant. Pulling this in broad daylight is just for show."
"They're not sure if Ethan is really in trouble, so they try to flush Ethan out by using me," Jasmine said calmly, signaling Ben to pull over.
"Stay in the car," Ben said as he parked. Tom jumped out immediately.
He walked to the back of the car, leaned against the trunk, lit a cigarette, and stared down the car tailing them, daring them to make a move.
The car behind them pulled over a short distance away, clearly waiting for orders.
Jasmine's sudden stop and Tom's bold move had clearly rattled them.
Did they know they were being followed the whole time?
"Come on, if you don't hit me now, I'll get you later," Tom's fierce look was enough to make anyone think twice.
He took a long drag on his cigarette and started walking toward the car tailing them.
The people inside were freaking out.
"Jasmine's bodyguard is nuts. He's daring us to hit him," the driver nervously reported to Mark.
"Did he spot you?" Mark asked, frowning.
"Looks like it," the subordinate stammered.
"Drive into them," Mark's voice was cold.
He wanted to see if Ethan would lose it if Jasmine got hit with her pregnancy.
"Do it slow, make it look real. But don't actually cause an accident," Mark added, not wanting to harm Jasmine's baby and stir up more trouble.
Jasmine had the whole Cunningham family backing her.
"That lunatic is blocking the car," the subordinate gripped the phone, his voice shaking. Tom's fierce look was no joke.
Tom stood in front of the car, hands on the hood, cigarette in mouth, looking like he was ready to tear them apart.
He seemed to be saying, "Get out of the car, and you're dead."
"Go," Mark's voice was low.
Both sides were playing a dangerous game.
Just as the driver was about to hit Tom, the car door opened, and Jasmine stepped out.
"Tom, get over here," Jasmine said firmly.
Tom frowned, shot a glare at the driver, and walked over to Jasmine.
Jasmine leaned against the trunk, her eyes cold as ice. "Let them hit."
She stood there, daring them to make a move.
The driver started the car but then slammed on the brakes, panicking. "Jasmine's out of the car and standing right in front of it. What do I do? Hit her or not?"
If they hit her, the baby wouldn't make it.
Mark was silent on the other end of the phone.
Both sides were playing a high-stakes game.
"Hit her," Mark finally said, his voice icy.
"Sir," the driver stammered, shaking with fear.
"I'll deal with the fallout. Just do it," Mark snapped.
Clearly, Mark was watching from somewhere nearby.
Jasmine was nuts, standing in front of the car like that.
The driver yelled and floored it, aiming straight at Jasmine and Tom.
Tom instinctively moved to shield Jasmine, but she stayed calm.
Mark suddenly shouted, "Stop!"
In the end, Mark caved, shouting to stop the car over the phone.
The driver slammed on the brakes, breathing heavily, almost crying on the steering wheel.
Jasmine stood tall and looked at the driver. "Tell Mark I'm never alone. Even if I were, he should think twice before messing with me."
The driver, pale with fear, reversed and sped off.
Across the street, Mark sat in his car and threw his phone. "Damn it!"
He had been scared off by a woman.
Jasmine's words were both a warning and a threat. She wasn't alone anymore.
She had the whole Cunningham family, including Richard and many others.
Even if she lost everything again, for her child and Ethan, she wouldn't go down without a fight!
"Tell Raymond to get Lisa's wedding ring off, have her find a way to get some blood, make it look real, and send it to Mark," Jasmine said as she got back into the car, rubbing her aching head.
Tom nodded. "I'll handle it. You rest."
Jasmine nodded and leaned against the car window, closing her eyes.
She couldn't fall, absolutely not.
Across the street, Mark's car had just started when there was a loud crash; a car had rear-ended him.
Mark hit his head on the steering wheel, blood trickling down his face.
"Hey, you didn't park properly. Who told you to stop in the middle of the road?" The driver of the car behind cursed, got out, and called the cops.
Mark cursed through the pain and looked around warily, "Ethan must be nearby."
The driver, also injured, asked, "Do you think it's Ethan's people who caused this crash?"
"I messed with his wife; he had to retaliate," Mark said, pushing the car door open and falling to the ground, looking around. "Investigate! Find out what Ethan is up to!"
"We can't be sure it's Ethan," the driver said, wiping the blood from his nose.
"I want to see if he can stay calm." Mark was convinced Ethan was alive and pulling strings from behind.
Across the street, in a black SUV, Connor watched Jasmine leave and saw Mark get hit.
"Now, he'll be even more suspicious that Ethan is alive and nearby," Raymond said, leaning back in his seat and glancing at Connor. "That was a good move."
"If they're cautious, they won't dare to mess with Jasmine easily," Connor said, looking down. "Jasmine also needs an excuse to keep going."
Right now, Jasmine was the only one who could compete with Claire for the Douglas Group. If they became reckless, they would definitely target Jasmine.
Connor was buying time.
"Will Ethan be able to come back?" Raymond hesitated.
"I don't know." Connor shook his head.
