Chapter 537 The Truth
"Yeah, she admitted it," Willian said, looking down like his pride took a hit.
Cordelia stayed quiet, her face unusually serious.
She always suspected Sophia swapped Jasmine, but there was no proof.
She had a paternity test done for Sophia's daughter back then, and it was accurate.
If Sophia had a daughter with Willian, she wouldn't have kept her own kid and raised someone else's.
Cordelia frowned, her fingers tightening. The thing she dreaded might still be happening.
"Let him in," Cordelia said firmly. "Call Nolan and tell him I miss them. Ask him to check if Fiona's free."
Larry nodded. "Yes, ma'am."
Willian rushed into the yard excitedly. "Cordelia, let's talk. I've realized you're still the best."
"I let you in, so keep your mouth shut," Cordelia warned sternly.
Willian was so scared he didn't dare speak, worried Cordelia might kick him out too.
Willian always had bad luck with women!
"Cordelia, let's talk," Willian insisted.
Cordelia frowned, irritated. "Willian, until I find out the truth, don't provoke me. If I find out Sophia swapped my daughter, I might kill you."
Cordelia's eyes were red, her voice hoarse.
Willian nervously sat on the sofa, not daring to speak.
His suspicions had solidified. Sophia was a venomous woman, a threat to everything. He now believed she could do anything, even if someone said she wanted to destroy the Earth, he'd believe it.
But it was too late.
If Sophia really swapped Jasmine and harmed Cordelia and her daughter, Willian wouldn't know how to face it.
Nolan got a call from the Cunningham family and had a bad feeling.
Cordelia rarely gathered everyone, especially not asking him to check Fiona's availability.
Fiona was a star and actress, so her schedule was packed. Cordelia respected Fiona's work, so family gatherings were usually just a notification, not a direct inquiry.
If asked, Fiona would adjust her schedule to come home, even if she was busy.
So unless it was something major, Cordelia wouldn't ask Fiona to come back.
Nolan hadn't stopped investigating Jasmine's swap years ago. He checked the hospital and nurses and found evidence pointing to Sophia.
Once all the evidence was connected, Sophia wouldn't escape.
But during the investigation, Nolan found a nurse had deliberately swapped his sister Jasmine with Fiona.
So, whose child was Fiona? May's?
But May's biological daughter was Serena.
This formed a closed loop. Who was Fiona's biological mother?
Nolan had suspicions but didn't dare dig deeper, fearing the truth would be unbearable.
"Where are you going?" Amelia, curled up in a corner, asked nervously as she saw Nolan about to leave.
Nolan frowned, looking at Amelia with displeasure. "None of your business."
Amelia lowered her head, feeling dejected and staying silent.
She was nothing now, just humbly begging Nolan to spare her father's mistress.
"Will you come back?" Amelia asked cautiously.
Nolan ignored her and left.
Amelia's eyes reddened, and she clenched her fingers tightly. Nolan must hate her.
But she had no choice.
Her father had harmed Fiona, causing her to be hospitalized for alcohol and drug poisoning. Now, her family had offended Nolan and the Willer family, leaving them with no way to survive.
She didn't care if her father went bankrupt, but she still had to take care of her mother.
Even though they favored boys over girls, she couldn't just watch them be driven to ruin.
Nolan had been collecting evidence and was furious about her father's actions, insisting on a death sentence. But Amelia felt her father didn't deserve that, so she came to beg Nolan, but he was very repulsed.
Nolan seemed to care a lot about Fiona. He had taken severe measures against her family for Fiona's sake.
She had no other choice but to secretly take photos of herself with Nolan and use them to threaten him to spare her family, which made Nolan hate her even more.
He was disgusted at the sight of her.
The door opened, and someone came in.
Amelia nervously got up, thinking Nolan had just left. How could he be back so soon? But when she ran out of the bedroom, she found it wasn't Nolan, but a fully armed woman.
Amelia was stunned for a moment, awkwardly standing in place.
Fiona took off her mask and hat, removed her coat, and looked at Amelia in shock. "Did I come to the wrong place?"
Amelia quickly waved her hand. "No."
Fiona breathed a sigh of relief. "You're my brother's..."
Amelia shook her head in panic. "No, I'm the maid."
Fiona wasn't Nolan's biological sister but the adopted daughter of the Cunningham family's Larry. They had grown up together, and everyone knew Nolan definitely liked Fiona. He treated her very well.
Fiona had always had a smooth career in the entertainment industry, and Nolan must have done a lot of work behind the scenes.
Nolan was strict with everyone, but Fiona was his exception.
Amelia had been staying at Nolan's house for a long time, and Nolan hadn't even told her the door code.
She could only stayed home all the time, or she couldn't get back in once she left.
Many times, she had curled up at the door, waiting all night for Nolan to come back.
But Fiona knew the code to Nolan's house.
This showed that she was different to Nolan.
Very important.
"Maid?" Fiona was a bit surprised. "Nolan is exploiting minors?"
Amelia, wearing a white dress and with her unmade-up face looking young and fair, stood barefoot on the ground, really looking like a newly adult girl.
Amelia lowered her head. "I owe him money, so when he's not around, I come to clean to pay off the debt. When he comes back, I leave."
Amelia spoke nervously, afraid that Fiona would misunderstand and have a falling out with Nolan, making Nolan hate her even more.
So nervous that she forgot to take her coat, Amelia put on her shoes and ran out. "I've finished cleaning. I'm sorry, I'll leave now."
Amelia felt guilty and didn't dare let Fiona know whose daughter she was.
Silverlight City's winter was still very cold, and Amelia ran out in just a thin dress, shivering in the freezing wind.
She didn't dare go far. Until Nolan completely spared her family, she had to stick to Nolan.
So she curled up in the community park, waiting for Fiona to leave and Nolan to come back.
After a while, Nolan returned, but he left with Fiona.
Amelia curled up in the park, freezing all night.
Nolan didn't come back, nor did he call her.
In fact, Nolan had no reason to call her.
They had no relationship to begin with; it was she who had threatened Nolan first.
