Chapter 753 Betty Really Loves Richard

Betty rubbed her temples. "I got it."

Hanging up the phone, Betty sat on the couch, looking at Richard pretending to be drunk. "Stop pretending. Others might not know your drinking capacity, but I do."

Richard buried his head in the pillow, staying silent.

Betty knew very well why Richard was pretending to be drunk. He lacked confidence, unsure if Betty would choose him over Steven.

So he pretended to be drunk not wanting to hear Betty talk about divorce.

"Richard, let's talk." Betty glanced at Richard.

Sure enough, he raised his hand to cover himself with the pillow. "I don't want to hear it."

Richard was afraid Betty would talk about divorce.

In fact, for a long time after they got married, Richard could hear Steven's name in Betty's nightmare.

Hearing it for so long, he felt sad and jealous.

Richard knew he couldn't compete with a dead man.

He never had the confidence that Betty loved him more.

Especially now, Steven had suddenly come back.

"Betty." The atmosphere was a bit awkward, and Richard was the first to speak.

He mumbled into the pillow, reaching out to hold Betty's hand. "Just tell me you choose me, that you want to be with me more, and don't worry about anything else."

He would handle everything.

He wasn't afraid of Steven playing dirty or using tricks to compete with him.

As long as Betty's heart was with him!

What Richard feared most was if Betty wanted to get a divorce and she loved Steven more.

Betty looked at Richard and reached out to grab the pillow from his hand. He didn't even care if he suffocated himself. "Are you crazy?"

Richard stayed silent, just burying his head.

Betty felt like laughing.

Only Richard could make her laugh in such a situation.

"Do you think suffocating yourself will solve the problem? Well, if you die, I won't have to choose. I can just go with Steven, right?" Betty leaned back on the couch, speaking leisurely.

Richard suddenly sat up, looking at Betty with a mix of anger and drunkenness.

Usually, Richard had a dull and honest look, appearing reliable and easy to bully. Now, drunk, he had a bit of a temper.

"Richard, I love you." Betty didn't like beating around the bush, she was straightforward.

She wouldn't pretend to separate from Richard just because Steven was a threat.

When faced with a problem, she would solve it directly.

If it couldn't be solved, then she would find another way.

"I will always, always choose you." Betty sighed.

Richard stood there, stunned, his eyes turning red.

Betty looked at Richard, and before she could say anything, Richard lunged at her, pulling her into his arms and holding her tightly.

"Say it again." Richard's voice trembled slightly.

Betty was taken aback for a moment, then patted Richard's back. "I love you."

Richard's grip on Betty tightened. "I admit I lack confidence."

Compared to someone like Steven, who was born into a wealthy family, Richard felt inferior.

Richard had grown up with May, who wasn't his biological mother but an aunt, and she was extremely selfish. How lowly and miserable Richard's life was.

Richard had to work, collect recyclables, and do hard labor even during school to support Serena's education and living expenses.

He felt extremely inferior and sensitive. He didn't understand why May favored Serena more or why he had to work so hard.

He joined the military right after high school, enduring hardships that many people never experienced in their lifetime.

He was like a seed that emerged from the mud at the bottom. He lacked confidence and a sense of security.

He wasn't sure if Betty would continue to love him.

Because his competitor was truly formidable.

Today, Richard went to see Raymond.

He wanted to understand Steven, his opponent.

Raymond said Steven was as excellent as Ethan.

However, the Hughes family was a very special family. Steven's focus wasn't just on the business world but also on the black market.

The Hughes family's enterprises were intricate, and coupled with Muskow's political landscape, their reach and influence across various sectors were truly daunting, it felt like once you leave the country, you were stepping onto their turf.

Especially in the Silverwood area, the Hughes family's influence was extensive.

"You don't need to be confident, you just need to know that I love you." Betty pushed Richard onto the couch, boldly sitting on his lap, a position that was seductive.

Richard's ears turned red, and he coughed, looking away.

Betty leaned close to Richard's ear, her lips curling up. "Honey."

"Don't even think about it." Richard coughed. "You need to take care of your health."

"It's been months, I'm already back to healthy." Betty said arrogantly.

Richard covered her mouth with his hand.

Betty teasingly bit Richard's hand.

Richard's body stiffened, knowing he would eventually be killed by Betty.

"No." Richard warned in a deep voice, leaving no room for negotiation.

Seeing Richard has reverted to his former stubborn demeanor, Betty wanted to laugh and bully him. "Are you disgusted with me? People say that after having a baby, husbands stop liking their wives."

Betty rubbed against Richard. "If you're disgusted with me."

Richard gritted his teeth and pressed Betty's head down, kissing her to shut her up.

Betty lay on Richard, laughing helplessly. "Alright, I'm sleepy."

Richard got up, carried her to the bedroom, and coaxed her to sleep after a long while.

Leaning against the headboard, Richard looked out the window for a long time before getting up and walking out to the balcony.

A chill wind swept across the balcony.

Richard felt much more awake, sitting in a chair and calling Arnold.

On the other end, Arnold was cursing while answering the phone. "If he's sick, let him see a doctor."

After cursing, Arnold seriously answered his son's call. "It's rare for you to call me. What's up?"

"Are you in trouble?" Richard asked, hearing the noise on the other end.

"Dean is sick. He got drunk in the middle of the night and came to bang on the door." Arnold almost angry as he spoke.

With Sophia's issue resolved, Dean had been pestering Cordelia every day. Cordelia avoided him, so he thought she was at Arnold's place and came drunk in the middle of the night to bang on Arnold's door.

Richard felt a bit helpless.

"Get him out of there. If he doesn't leave, call the mental hospital." After giving instructions, Arnold returned to Richard. "Do you need something?"

Richard needed Arnold's help, but he couldn't bring himself to call him dad.

After all these years, he was used to being alone. It was hard for him to adjust to.

"Do you know about the Hughes family in Muskow?" Richard asked quietly.

"I do." Arnold fell silent. "I advise you not to have any entanglements or connections with the Hughes family. If you do, avoid them and prevent any conflicts."
