Chapter 88 Henry Used Justin to Provoke Ethan at the Hospital

Ethan sat outside the emergency room, his expression heavy and subdued.
"Mr. Douglas..." Liam hesitated to approach.
Ethan was somewhat frightening in this state.
Liam had only seen Ethan like this twice before - once at his mother's funeral and now.
Liam knew Ethan well; they were somewhat related, and from a young age, he knew Ethan was always seen as a genius and a good kid by others.
But from the moment Liam first laid eyes on Ethan, he knew Ethan wasn't truly happy.
He had the ability, the talent, the strength, but he had never really been happy.
Born into the Douglas family, the burden and pressure on him seemed far greater than that of an ordinary person.
"Henry... has sent young master Daniel to the hospital. Carmen knows, and Mr. Howard is on his way. This matter... might escalate. If the Douglas family must blame someone, they wouldn't dare blame Henry directly. They might target Jasmine instead," Liam whispered, preparing Ethan for what was to come.
The Patrick family and the Douglas family were major partners. Not only that, Carmen and Daniel were cozying up to the Patrick family to vie for control of Stellar Enterprises. How could they throw any blame towards Henry?
They would surely make Jasmine take responsibility.
"Let them try," Ethan's voice was low, and his eyes were dark and unsettling.
"Mr. Douglas... do you really not want to stay out of this?" Liam gasped for breath.
It seemed best for Ethan not to get involved.
Once Ethan got his hands dirty in this matter, there would be no turning back.
Carmen and Daniel had been scheming for years, biding their time to catch Ethan off guard.
"Stay out of it? Heh..." Ethan sneered and glanced at Liam. "There are cameras in Richard's auto repair shop. Have Richard pull the footage and hand it over to the police. If Boston didn't teach him a lesson, then this time, let's make sure he learns."
"What about Mr. Patrick hitting Mr. Daniel?" Liam trembled in fear.
Ethan was truly declaring war on Carmen.
Sending his own brother to the police station would be a stain on the Douglas family and his father's reputation.
With this action, Ethan and the rest of the Douglas family would be at war.
Howard would surely be furious, especially with Carmen whispering in his ear.
Liam took a deep breath and dared not say more.
"Turn it all over to the police. Carmen wouldn’t want to get on Henry’s bad side." Ethan was well aware that Carmen would never provoke Henry and the Patrick family.
"Mr. Douglas, are you doing this for Jasmine, or... taking this opportunity to confront Carmen?" Liam hesitated for a long time, then spoke in a lowered voice. "You've endured for so many years; there's no need to ruin your own plans over Jasmine."
Ethan fell silent, and his brow furrowed slightly.
Liam didn't press further. He turned to attend to other matters.
"Mr. Douglas, is the Douglas family planning to have her killed this time?" In the emergency room, William approached with test results, speaking in a low voice as he handed the report to Ethan. "She has a congenital heart condition, and the Wilson family is still counting on her for a kidney donation. At this rate, forget about her donating a kidney, even staying alive is becoming a problem."
Ethan's face darkened as he looked up at William. "Kidney donation?"
"Isn't Serena in need of a kidney? It has to be Jasmine's apparently." William's hands were in his pockets, his tone mocking. "They say Jasmine owes the Wilson family a great deal."
"She is sick too?" Ethan rubbed his forehead. "How is she doing?"
"She's not dead yet, but the next time might be uncertain. The injury on her neck seems recent, and the way she's been treated is excessive." William was accustomed to seeing horrible scars and injuries on the dead, but he had never seen someone so abused while still alive.
"She also has severe depression, with clear somatic symptoms. I've checked her records; she's undergone numerous MECT treatments. You probably can't understand her current condition—it's like she is a walking corpse."
After glancing at the time, William turned and left.
Ethan looked at Jasmine's test results, remaining silent for a long time.
This was madness.
Just how much had this woman been through?
...
"No, no... don't touch me, don't touch me..."
Jasmine lay on the hospital bed, restless.
Loss of blood had left her hearing a constant ringing in her ears, and she was incredibly dizzy.
To make matters worse, her left ear was already deaf. Jasmine felt like a person sealed in a glass jar, isolated from the world.
"Mr. Douglas, here are the remaining test results. Please take a look. She's severely malnourished." Even the nurse was shocked. How could someone still starve in this day and age?
She was severely deficient in Vitamin D2, to the point where her bones were at risk of disintegrating.
Ethan stood by the bedside, giving Jasmine a glance. "I understand."
"Mr. Douglas, this is truly heartbreaking. When we were resuscitating her, her heart stopped. It was really close... She almost couldn't be saved." The young nurse whispered and then left.
Ethan gazed deeply at Jasmine.
She wasn’t afraid of death, but she found it difficult to fight back against her abusers.
If she had no worries, how far would she go?
"Water..."
Jasmine was extremely thirsty; she wanted to drink water.
Ethan hesitated for a moment. He had never taken care of a patient before; he felt unsure of what to do.
After dipping a cotton swab in water, Ethan carefully moistened Jasmine's lips.
"Water..." Jasmine, parched with thirst, slowly opened her eyes, wanting to drink.
"You've lost too much blood; you can't drink a lot of water right now. Just hold on." Ethan's voice was soothing.
At least to Jasmine it sounded comforting.
"It's you again..." Jasmine weakly smiled.
It was Ethan again. Was she dreaming?
There were even traces of her blood on his clothes again.
Ethan looked at Jasmine, his heart tightening.
How could she still manage to smile in this condition?
Yet inexplicably, Ethan found Jasmine's smile quite beautiful.
"Rest well." Ethan spoke softly.
Jasmine slowly closed her eyes. This entire time, she was drifting in and out of consciousness.
"Don't leave..." Jasmine's slender, weak fingers gently clasped Ethan's wrist, summoning courage from somewhere, as if she were drowning and Ethan was a lifeline.
"I won't leave." Ethan sat beside her, not pushing away Jasmine's hand.
She held onto Ethan tightly and drifted into a drowsy sleep.
At one point, Liam came in.’
When he saw Ethan, he looked shocked. He then mentioned that the police had taken Daniel away and quickly stationed himself outside the ward.
"Mr. Patrick."
Henry arrived, holding Justin.
Richard also came in, following behind.
"Jasmine is not in danger. You don’t need to worry too much." Liam patted Richard's shoulder.
Richard nodded. "Thank you."
Liam didn't say anything more.
Henry entered the ward and saw Ethan sitting by her bedside with Jasmine's hand tightly gripping his wrist.
"Mom..." Justin's eyes reddened. His voice cracked as he called out for his mom.
Ethan instinctively reached out to hug Justin, but his hand hesitated and fell back down.
Henry was Justin's biological father.
"Mr. Douglas, you can go back and rest now." Henry frowned as he spoke.
He didn't want Jasmine to have any other choice besides him.
"It seems like it's not possible right now." Ethan's gaze fell on Jasmine's hand, refusing to let go of him.
"Ethan..." Henry's face darkened, and his voice got deeper. "Don't drag Jasmine into the internal struggles of your family. She's already suffering; don't exploit her further."
Henry knew Ethan's intentions very well.
