Chapter 955 Mr. Hamilton, My Apology for Earlier Rashness

The nurse inhaled sharply. Others might not know how intimidating Vincent was, but she'd heard Connor describe him as someone truly frightening.

Vincent looked down at Selene's firm grip on his belt. "Let go."

"No," Selene replied, ready to face the consequences.

"Let. Go." Vincent's voice was a threatening growl.

It had no effect. "No!"

Selene glared up at him defiantly. "Pay me for my phone."

Vincent, seeing no way out, took a deep breath. "My phone's in my car downstairs. Come with me to get it."

Selene made a skeptical sound but maintained her grip on his belt, afraid he might escape.

That phone had cost her an entire month's salary.

Vincent's mood darkened to new depths. He'd never felt so exasperated in his life.

As he walked forward, Selene followed behind, still clutching his belt. They entered the elevator in this bizarre yet oddly synchronized manner.

Everyone in the elevator stared at them.

Even Vincent, accustomed to outrageous situations, felt embarrassed, while Selene maintained her righteous grip as if apprehending a thief.

Finally reaching the underground parking garage, Vincent reluctantly opened his car and retrieved his phone, ignoring the thirty-plus missed calls. "Send me your account number. I'll transfer the money shortly."

Selene glared at him. "Don't you have Facebook? If I let you go now, you'll never pay me. Add me on Facebook first."

Vincent took another deep breath and opened his rarely-used Facebook account. "Let go, and I'll send it now."

Thinking that even Vincent wouldn't be petty enough to withhold a few thousand dollars, Selene finally released his belt.

Vincent calmly straightened his clothes, slid into the driver's seat, and quickly shut the door.

Selene was still struggling to power on her shattered phone when she realized Vincent had closed the car door. She lunged for the handle, but it was already locked.

Vincent found himself in an unexpectedly good mood. Teasing Selene had somehow made his boring day interesting.

He raised an eyebrow at her, fastened his seatbelt, and drove away.

Selene chased after the car for a few steps before stopping, jumping up and down in frustration. "Vincent! You're not a man! You're a jerk! A liar!"

She hurled every insult she knew at his departing car.

In that moment, Selene transformed from a casual critic to Vincent's number one enemy. From now on, she would join forces with Liam against this terrible man who wouldn't even pay her $4,000 or fix her phone.

Looking at her shattered device, tears welled in her eyes. The thought of spending thousands on a replacement was too much. She stood there, crying in the middle of the parking garage.

Meanwhile, Vincent had only intended to tease her briefly.

He hadn't expected her to take it so hard.

When he reversed back to where he'd left her, he found Selene crouched on the ground, hugging her knees and sobbing.

Vincent paused, feeling an unfamiliar twinge of guilt. Had he gone too far?

"Hey! Get in," he called, lowering the window.

Hearing someone call her, Selene wiped her tears and climbed into Vincent's car, immediately grabbing his shirt. "Pay for my phone."

Vincent wasn't sure why he was bothering with her—perhaps he was just bored.

With a resigned smile, he drove Selene to a shopping mall.

"Which model do you want?" Vincent asked, letting her choose.

Selene looked around the high-end phone store Vincent had brought her to. "This brand is pretty expensive. Just one like my old one would be fine."

Vincent leaned against the counter. "I don't feel like going elsewhere. Hurry up and choose."

Selene bit her lip, deciding that if she was going to extract something from this capitalist, she might as well make it count. She reluctantly selected a non-flagship model similar in price to her broken phone.

She reasoned that since her old phone had already been used for a while, getting a new one of equivalent value was already a win.

Vincent rubbed his temples and pointed to the latest flagship model. "That one."

Then he warned Selene, "Don't embarrass me."

Only then did Selene notice the salesperson's expression, which had shifted from excitement when Vincent entered to disappointment when she selected the older model.

Selene checked the price tag and gasped. Over $10,000!

What kind of phone was this? Was it gold-plated?

"Transfer her SIM card," Vincent instructed with a slight nod.

Before Selene could process what was happening, the salesperson had already retrieved the new phone and unboxed it with remarkable speed, making it impossible for her to back out.

Selene hesitated, feeling she didn't deserve such an extravagant gift from Vincent, despite his rudeness. Still, she reluctantly handed over her old phone for the SIM card transfer.

Once the new phone was powered on, Selene couldn't help but admire it. She'd never owned anything so premium—and she'd obtained it through what amounted to a fender-bender scam.

"Hey," Vincent called, watching her childlike fascination.

Thinking Vincent might change his mind, Selene quickly stuffed the phone down the front of her shirt.

Yes, directly through the collar and into her bra.

Vincent was completely stunned by this shocking move. He couldn't react for several seconds.

What kind of person was she? Was she even a woman?

"Add me on Facebook!" Vincent finally managed to say through gritted teeth.

Realizing her misunderstanding, Selene reached into her shirt and retrieved the phone right in front of him.

Vincent was beyond words.

Selene logged into Facebook and added Vincent's account.

"That's quite convenient," Vincent remarked sarcastically. "Saves on fabric costs and doubles as a pocket. Theft-proof too."

Selene didn't immediately catch his meaning.

By the time she realized Vincent was teasing her about her flat chest, he was already walking away with his characteristic swagger.

"So what if I save on fabric?" she shouted after him. "So what if I use it as a pocket? It's not like I'm wearing your clothes!"

After venting for a moment, Selene looked at her new $10,000 phone and decided to let it go.

"Fine, we're even now. But if I ever see you again, I'll—" Selene was about to launch into a lecture when Vincent paused his phone scrolling. At the same moment, her own phone chimed.

She checked the notification. On Facebook, a user with a black profile picture whom she'd labeled "Not a Man" had sent her $60,000.

"Oh my God," Selene stared at Vincent in shock.

Vincent, amused by her stunned expression, didn't acknowledge her further as he walked away with authority.

Selene, recovering quickly, hurried after him with newfound deference. "Mr. Hamilton, please forgive my rash behavior just now..."
