Chapter 716 Love and Friendship Are Both Mutual Efforts
Deborah was taken away by the police with a bewildered look on her face. She wanted to resist, but she couldn't.
"The hitmen you sent have already confessed. The evidence is conclusive."
Deborah's heart sank. She wanted to contact Messiah, hoping for his protection, but he had abandoned her after Xavier's death.
With Xavier gone, the Powell family would come under Amara's control. Amara, the legitimate heiress, had no ties to Messiah and had hunted Xavier for years.
Now, she was the ultimate winner.
Deborah's arrest surprised Jasmine and Ethan. After getting Jasmine's consent, Ethan arrived at the Douglas Group with her.
Deborah managed to contact Ethan; he was her only hope.
"Deborah has been arrested," Ethan said. "This is quite strange."
"She is so smart; she couldn't have killed Xavier. She wanted to kill Lily, and Lily used her to kill Xavier." Jasmine was very surprised.
The truth was now impossible to uncover.
But Jasmine knew it in her heart.
"We can't help." Jasmine shook her head at Ethan.
Ethan nodded.
Deborah knew she was at a dead end, which was why she sought out Ethan.
"I'll take a lawyer to see her. She should understand that no one can help her and that she needs to bear the consequences herself," Ethan said solemnly.
To see if Deborah could say anything valuable.
Jasmine nodded. Deborah had come to this point because she was too arrogant.
She looked down on Lily, yet it was Lily who sent her to prison.
Jasmine just didn't expect Lily to be so ruthless.
"We promised to help Lily, but Xavier's sudden death is unacceptable to the Powell family. Amara was against Xavier for years. With Xavier dead, Amara will quickly take over the Powell family."
Amara had been in control of the Powell family for years. Lily, relying on the child in her womb, would find it very difficult to establish herself in the Powell family.
Jasmine wasn't sure if Lily had that capability.
"Everyone chooses their own path. This is the path Lily chose." Ethan frowned.
There was very little they could do to help.
Jasmine took a deep breath. "I'll go to the hospital to see Lily with Emily. You go see Deborah."
Ethan nodded.
This matter was really too sudden.
With such a big change in the Powell family, it would be hard for Lily to stand firm if she didn't have plans and means.
Had she thought about what came next?
In Capital Hospital, Jasmine walked into the ward. Lily was sitting by the window, looking outside.
"How's your health?" Jasmine asked.
Lily answered, "I'm fine, the baby is okay."
Jasmine sighed. "And you?"
Lily turned around and smiled at Jasmine and Emily. "I'm fine. Emily, you're here too."
Emily sat beside Lily, feeling sorry for her. "Don't overthink."
Lily had become silent and withdrawn. The three women who once vowed to support each other now had nothing to talk about.
"Can I talk to Jasmine alone?" Lily asked.
Lily still had some conscience. She didn't want Emily to hear, not because she distrusted her, but because she didn't want to hurt her.
Emily nodded and left the ward.
Jasmine looked at Lily and spoke softly. "Amara is wary of others suspecting her involvement, so she won't make any big moves for now. But your time is limited. You need to understand that Amara is not Deborah."
Deborah seemed smart but was actually insecure. Although she claimed to rely on herself, every escape route depended on others.
Amara was different. She was a strong woman, a true 'queen.' She didn't depend on anyone; she relied on herself.
For Lily to go against Amara would be extremely difficult.
Lily said, "I'm getting discharged tomorrow and going back to Kerea. I have a way to make Amara temporarily shut up, but you need to get Ethan to help me."
Lily knew that to survive now, she needed someone's help. "Ethan doesn't need to do anything. Just you and him accompanying me to Kerea will be enough."
With Ethan and Jasmine around, Amara wouldn't dare act rashly.
Public opinion in Kerea was even crazier than here, with many accusing Amara of murdering her brother for the family business.
Lily had evidence of Amara killing Xavier—documents Xavier had prepared to use against her when he returned to take over the family. He had trusted Lily enough to leave them with her.
Now, they were proving useful.
Lily even laughed. Was this God's way of helping her?
"Ethan is injured and can't fly. He has extensive burns on his back." Jasmine didn't want Ethan involved.
But right now, she needed Lily and the Powell family.
Ethan was right; there were no eternal friends, only eternal interests.
"I'll go with you. I can represent Ethan and the Cunningham family," Jasmine said, looking at Lily.
Lily nodded. "If you help me, I will repay you for the rest of my life."
Jasmine shook her head and spoke softly, "I just hope that every decision you make and every step you take, you won't regret in the future."
Lily suddenly cried, saying nothing.
She had nothing to regret.
No matter how she struggled, it was still hell. Why not take a gamble?
Even if it cost her life, she was willing.
"There are too many people in this world who are helpless. There's no such thing as taking a step back and seeing the bigger picture." Lily shook her head. "People are selfish. I did nothing wrong."
She did nothing wrong. It was Xavier who owed her.
"Take good care of yourself." Jasmine nodded, patting Lily's hand. "You also need to be careful of Sophia. If she finds out you didn't follow her instructions, she won't let it go."
Lily's eyes turned fierce.
She had to eliminate Sophia.
"We're leaving now. Take care of yourself," Jasmine said.
Emily had been waiting outside. Seeing Jasmine come out, she spoke softly, "People change. You need to be more careful."
Jasmine was a bit surprised. Emily didn't know anything, yet she was so perceptive?
"Over the years, I may not be good at much, but I'm good at reading people. After spending those years in prison, if I learned anything, it's how to read people." Emily sighed. "I hope I'm just overthinking."
Jasmine didn't say much, sighing as she followed Emily. "I hope we can all live peacefully and happily in the future."
"The higher you climb, the harder the fall." Emily smiled and leaned on Jasmine's shoulder in the elevator. "But for me, knowing you means I'll have a good ending. Jasmine, thank you."
For Emily, knowing Jasmine was like a second life.
Without Jasmine, she wouldn't have been taken care of by Ethan, wouldn't have made so much money at the luxury store. She would probably still be in some shady place, doing work that people despised.
