Chapter 657 Amelia Asks Nolan for Money

"Nolan, don't push it," Nathaniel warned.

Nolan grabbed Nathaniel by the collar. "I don't care what your plans are for her. She's not leaving with you today."

"Nolan! Who do you think you are?" Nathaniel snapped.

"Who do I think I am?" Nolan sneered, shoving Nathaniel away. "You tell me."

Just then, Nathaniel's phone rang. "Nathaniel, where are you? Get to the office now," his agent said, sounding stressed.

It was clear Elijah had contacted Nathaniel's agency.

Nathaniel shot Nolan a furious look.

Amelia glanced at Nathaniel, then lowered her eyes and got out of the car, holding the kitten. She didn't want to cause Nathaniel any more trouble.

"Amelia, don't worry about it. I'm not scared of him," Nathaniel said, trying to pull her back. "Come on, get in the car."

Amelia shook her head. She couldn't be as reckless as before.

With her eyes reddening, Amelia stood next to Nolan, clutching the kitten. She had no idea what Nolan was planning. But she didn't have the strength to fight back, so she'd wait until he got tired of her and let her go.

She knew Nolan well enough: if she defied him, he'd do everything to win. But if she went along with him, clung to him, and annoyed him, he'd soon get bored.

"You're a real piece of work," Nathaniel said angrily, glaring at Nolan.

Nolan didn't respond, just glanced at Amelia. "Come with me."

Amelia lowered her head and took a few steps with the cardboard box, then stopped to look at the dirty, trembling kitten in her arms. It pained her to think Nolan, with his obsessive fixation on cleanliness, would never allow her to keep the kitten. Even if she managed to smuggle it home, he would undoubtedly throw it out.

Nathaniel was too busy; the company had suddenly signed him up for a bunch of contracts before his current one expired. He didn't have time to take care of the kitten either. That left Amelia with few options. The best she could hope for was to leave the kitten in the neighborhood, praying someone kind-hearted would adopt it.

Ahead, Nolan reached the front door and looked back at Amelia, who wore a melancholic expression as she stared at the kitten.

"Start the car," Nolan frowned and instructed. Elijah didn't dare ask questions and quickly brought the car around.

"Get in," Nolan said, holding the car door open for her. Amelia, lost in her worry for the kitten, barely had any interest in where he was taking her.

She was about to put down the cat before Nolan added in a deep voice, "Bring your kitten."

Amelia shot him a dubious look. Was he planning to dump both her and the kitten somewhere? It was hard to imagine Nolan letting her stay at his place; Fiona was probably there now.

They drove for a while in silence, the tension thick in the air. Eventually, the car pulled up in front of a veterinary hospital. Nolan got out and opened the car door. "Get out."

Amelia, stunned, looked up at the sign of the veterinary hospital. She couldn't believe it—Nolan had actually brought them here. Fighting back tears, she got out and carried the kitten inside. Nolan waited outside the whole time, probably because he really disliked animals.

"The kitten doesn't have any major issues, just malnutrition. We've tested for viruses, and everything is fine," the vet said, giving Amelia some instructions when she left with the kitten.

Amelia held the kitten, feeling a bit uneasy. "The kitten can't take a bath, so I'll take it with me."

Her mind raced with plans: she needed to find a place to stay, secure a job, and eventually, an apartment. But before she could dwell on these thoughts, Nolan cut through her musings.

"Get in the car," Nolan said, opening the car door and grunting. "I need an assistant. Come to the office with me tomorrow."

Amelia shook her head. "Sorry, I can't."

Nolan's face darkened. "Amelia, don't be like this."

Amelia lowered her gaze, the weight of the situation pressing down heavily on her shoulders. She remained silent, a thousand unsaid words hanging between them.

"When will you let me go?" she finally asked after a long while, almost pleading.

Nolan frowned. "Have I forced you to stay with me?"

Had he forced her? No, but he had put pressure on those around her.

Amelia glanced at Nolan. "Stop bothering Nathaniel. Just tell me what you want me to do."

Nolan walked up to Amelia, pushed her head down, and shoved her into the car. Amelia felt very wronged and clenched her fists tightly.

Anyway, he wouldn't be interested in her for long.

"Stay with me," Nolan suddenly said after a long silence, sitting next to Amelia. After saying that, Nolan turned his gaze to the window.

He had never felt this way before, this unwillingness, this desire not to let her go, at least not for now.

"For how long?" Amelia asked without much emotion. She no longer harbored any naive hopes, only wishing for an early release from Nolan's entanglement.

Nolan frowned, looking at Amelia.

"I heard you went on a date. Is the marriage prospect satisfactory?" Amelia asked.

Nolan's Adam's apple moved as he wanted to explain, but he did need to get married soon to put Cordelia at ease.

Nolan felt a bit irritated about Amelia. He still didn't know how to handle his relationship with her—whether to give her money to leave or selfishly keep her around.

Seeing Nolan remain silent, Amelia spoke up, "Whenever you decide to get engaged, let me go."

"When you're done with me this time, stop bothering me," she added, the frustration in her tone clear. She couldn't fathom why Nolan wouldn't just release her. Surely, if he wanted to keep a college girl, many would be willing to line up for the chance.

"Okay," Nolan said, somewhat displeased.

"Then let's talk about terms," Amelia said. She used to look down on those college girls her dad kept and the women who sought men for money. But now, she had become the one she despised.

However, she had come to terms with it. She couldn't be foolishly following Nolan for nothing anymore. This time, if Nolan offered money, she would take it.

Why shouldn't she? She had to live too.

"Go ahead." Nolan raised an eyebrow.

"When I thought you were a male escort, I offered you three million dollars a month," Amelia said seriously, holding up three fingers.

Then she lowered her head, feeling a bit guilty. "Although I'm not worth that much, if you want me to stay with you, it can't be less than..." Amelia gritted her teeth and pushed the three fingers she had held up further.

Not less than three hundred thousand dollars, right?

Nolan glanced at Amelia, his face darkening. She had indeed picked up bad habits from Nathaniel.

"Take it." Nolan handed his card to Amelia.

He wouldn't let the woman with him suffer, especially a young girl like Amelia, who needed to be pampered. The card had no limit; she could spend as she pleased.

Amelia looked at the card in her hand and felt it wasn't worth it, so she threw it back at him. "No, I want cash."

Nolan exhaled sharply, his frustration evident. "Keep the damn card and spend as you like. I'll have Elijah transfer the money to your account tomorrow."

Amelia glanced at Nolan. He really was rich, not even haggling over three hundred thousand dollars. Taking Nolan's card, Amelia thought, 'Why not take advantage of it? Just spend it. After all, he isn't short of money.'

And Nolan was unpredictable; she didn't know when he might kick her out. She needed to convert the money on his card to cash as soon as possible.

Back home, Nolan's driver left, and Elijah came in carrying a lot of stuff.

"Sir, the custom cat villa and cat tree will be delivered tomorrow afternoon. The kitten will have to make do for tonight," Elijah said, looking enviously at the kitten. It was really lucky.

Amelia was stunned, looking at Nolan. "You actually like cats?"

Nolan took a step back in disgust. "I don't like them. Keep it away from me."

He hated these little creatures, but he had seen how much she liked them.

Ian leaned on the sofa and made a call at his residence. "My people have been watching Henry and Justin. Ethan hasn't shown up; he must be in trouble, right? Howard is dead; Ethan couldn't have gotten away unscathed."

"Ethan isn't dead. He went to Jasmine's place," a deep voice said on the other end of the line.

Ian frowned, his expression changing as he sat up straight. "No matter what Ethan is planning, I advise you not to touch Jasmine and Justin for now."
