Chapter 556 Ethan is Preparing to Strike Back
Nolan saw Amelia and frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Nathaniel stopped and looked back at the nervous Amelia, who was at a loss. He smiled and explained, "Sir, she's my friend. She came to see me. My house is just ahead."
Amelia nervously hid behind Nathaniel, clutching his shirt tightly, not daring to look at Nolan.
Nolan's face darkened as he looked at the nearby villa.
He remembered that Larry from the neighborhood said a big star lived there, someone from the entertainment industry.
He thought, 'Lawrence has done so many heinous things in the entertainment industry, and Amelia still has friends there? Amelia really isn't afraid of being deceived.'
"Where are you going so late?" Nolan ignored Nathaniel and asked Amelia in a deep voice.
Amelia was silent for a long time before looking up. "It's none of your business," She said it very seriously.
She thought, 'Anyway, Nolan will never let my father go.'
Nolan was a bit displeased. "Amelia, are you getting bold now?"
Amelia's eyes reddened, and she said nothing.
Even now, she didn't want to care about anyone, not Lawrence, not her mother, and not her brother.
How she would survive, earn money to abort the baby, and ensure she could feed herself in the future was the key.
Since her mother and brother were so selfish, the money from selling her necklace was enough to repay the years of upbringing. In the future, when she had money, she would give her mother a monthly pension but would no longer foolishly obey.
"Sorry, Amelia hasn't eaten. She's hungry. We'll be leaving now." Nathaniel grabbed Amelia's wrist and led her away.
Nolan was a bit irritated but didn't call out to Amelia.
He thought, 'What is this now? Knowing she cann't achieve her goal with me, she starts looking for someone else?'
With a cold snort, Nolan irritably turned and went home.
When he got home, he found Fiona wasn't there either.
He thought, 'Where has Fiona run off to? Neither of them gave me peace of mind.'
Nolan called Ryan. "Ryan, have you seen Fiona?" He and Fiona had adopted a cat, and even if Fiona didn't want him as a brother, she would definitely see the cat.
"Fiona?" Ryan's voice was unnatural. "I haven't seen her. Where did she go? Did she run away?"
Nolan's face darkened further. "If you see her, tell her to come back obediently. I've already arranged for a hospital in Muskow to send her to."
Ryan coughed. "Actually, the medical standards here are..."
"I want to send her away to clear her mind." Nolan interrupted Ryan.
It had nothing to do with where she was treated; he just wanted to send Fiona away temporarily to prevent her from overthinking.
On the other hand, Nolan was worried Sophia might bother Fiona.
"Alright, I'll make sure to pass on the message when I see her."
After hanging up the phone, Nolan sank into the sofa, irritated as he tugged at his tie.
He thought, 'Amelia and I were never going to be a thing, but why did seeing her walk off with another man bother me so much?'
After a long pause, Nolan grabbed his phone in frustration. He called his assistant, Elijah. "Find out who owns the house behind mine. I think it's someone from the entertainment industry."
It wasn't long before Elijah got back to him. "It's Nathaniel—the actor who's a key figure in ratings and box office hits."
Nolan squinted at the details on his phone. "I seem to recall that Nathaniel was also one of Lawrence's victims. Wasn't Lawrence a real pain for him when Nathaniel was with their entertainment company? I heard Lawrence even forced him to attend those high-society parties and serve drinks."
"Yes, that's right. Fans have mentioned it, and there have been public posts expressing sympathy for Nathaniel. It doesn't seem like baseless gossip."
Elijah paused before continuing, "When you asked me to gather evidence, I did reach out to Nathaniel. For some reason, though, he refused to testify or provide a written statement against Lawrence."
Nolan frowned, clearly agitated.
He thought, 'If Nathaniel is a victim of Lawrence and now shows up just when Amelia is at her lowest, will he have ulterior motives?
'Does Amelia really believe that everyone is on the up and up?'
With a sigh, Nolan rubbed his forehead.
"Mr. Cunningham, should I try to pressure Nathaniel's manager tomorrow to get him to testify and add more charges against Lawrence?" Elijah suggested cautiously.
Nolan was silent for a moment. "No, let the police handle it from here."
Elijah was taken aback. "Understood, Mr. Cunningham."
Nolan seemed ready to let Lawrence off the hook.
"Alright, find out where Amelia and Nathaniel are having dinner," Nolan said, a note of frustration in his voice. "In case Amelia's being deceived."
"Amelia and Nathaniel?" Elijah asked, clearly shocked.
Nolan nodded. "Yes."
Elijah didn't press further and ended the call quickly.
About ten minutes later, Elijah called back. "They're at a barbecue place near the university district."
"What?" Nolan's eyebrows furrowed in surprise. He rubbed his temples.
"Send me the address."
Nolan stood up, grabbed his jacket, and headed out.
Upon arriving home, Jasmine immediately started packing up Ethan's things.
"We can't stay here anymore. Brandon is definitely up to no good," she declared firmly.
Ethan sighed, looking resigned. "Brandon's just a businessman, not particularly bad."
"You're still defending him?" Jasmine was clearly upset.
Ethan chuckled softly. "No, no, let's just move out. We can settle into the villa Nolan gave us. We'll come back to pack up here in a few days. We've already paid the rent."
Jasmine considered this for a moment. "True, we've already paid for the place. Why should we leave now?"
Ethan stayed silent.
Jasmine pulled everything she'd packed back out of her bag. "I've paid a year's rent. No, we're staying put."
Ethan wrapped his arms around Jasmine. "Alright, we'll stay."
Jasmine hugged Ethan and whispered reassuringly, "Don't be upset. Even if Raymond turns his back on you, we still have plenty of options. Worst case, we start over."
Jasmine was determined to stand by Ethan, no matter if he had nothing or was penniless.
"I don't want to see you suffer, and I don't want you to struggle because of me," Ethan said, gently stroking Jasmine's hair. He wanted nothing but the best for her, so he feared becoming a complete failure.
Howard wanted to drive him to the edge, so Ethan was determined to turn the tables.
"This time, with the Douglas Group agreeing to Raymond's terms, it will definitely stir discontent within the Douglas family. It's a chance for us," Ethan said, urging Jasmine to freshen up and get some rest.
Jasmine nodded, giving Ethan a fleeting look, but the words she wanted to say remained unspoken.
She wanted to tell him that no matter the outcome, she would always be by his side.
But true support was shown through actions, not words.
Jasmine went to the bathroom, while Ethan stepped out onto the balcony to call Brandon. "Leak the details of the contract Howard agreed to with Raymond. Stir up some conflict within The Douglas Group, and make sure everything is ready for the final play."
If he could create chaos within the Douglas Group, he could exploit the opportunity.
"Are you finally going to act on your grandfather's will?" Brandon asked.
