Chapter 529 Who Will Win, Deborah or Avery?

"Deborah's been busy making connections abroad. She's ready to win," Ethan said with a grin.

"But what about Avery?" Jasmine worried Avery might lose, letting Deborah, the illegitimate daughter, take over the Hawthorne Group. That would be so unfair.

"You don't want Avery to lose?" Ethan asked.

"I don't know her personally, but she's impressive. I heard about her in college. She was a standout student, strong and principled. I saw her debate once, and she made her opponent give up."

Ethan pulled Jasmine close. "Don't stress about Deborah. She's focused on the Hawthorne Group, and Avery is her main rival."

"Once this is over, you can team up with Avery and help her out," Ethan said, ruffling Jasmine's hair.

Jasmine nodded, then got excited. "Ethan, I've saved enough money. Can we buy this house?"

They needed their own place. Even though Nolan gave her a villa, it felt too extravagant now. This house was special because they lived there when times were tough.

"What?" Ethan coughed. "Isn't renting fine?"

"The rent is a lot. We're just giving Brandon money for nothing. It'd be better to buy it," Jasmine insisted. She wanted a home of her own, not something given by someone else.

Ethan rubbed his temples. If Jasmine found out the house was his and he had been collecting rent from her, she'd be furious.

Ethan hesitated but didn't say anything. "I'll talk to Brandon about the price. If it's too high, we won't buy it," he said, hoping to dissuade her.

But Jasmine was determined to buy it, no matter the cost, because it had sentimental value.

"Tomorrow, I want to see Evan," Jasmine said after a pause. "Alex came to me for help today, and I agreed."

Ethan was surprised. Alex had come to see Jasmine personally. "Alright, I'll go with you," he agreed.

Jasmine looked at Ethan in surprise. "You agree to let me see Evan?"

Ethan nodded. "You can do whatever you want. I'm your husband, here to support you, not stand in your way."

Jasmine hugged Ethan.

Ethan's phone rang. He glanced at it, and his expression changed. "Jasmine, go to bed. I'll take this call and join you soon," he said, heading to the balcony to take the call privately.

Jasmine didn't think much of it and went to the bedroom.

"Did you say Howard has imprisoned Annabelle?" Ethan asked quietly on the balcony.

"Annabelle hasn't been at work for days. My sources say she's missing. HR says she's at home recovering from depression after a miscarriage. It's clear Howard and Claire have her," Liam said. "I even suspect Howard had her parents killed."

Ethan narrowed his eyes. "Could be. The police have no leads?"

"The killer was a pro, and the escape route was perfectly planned. It was all meticulously designed," Liam said, pausing before adding, "The police have a surveillance video. I checked it, and the person looks a bit like one of Sophia's mercenaries."

Ethan rubbed his temples. It seemed Sophia and Howard were secretly working together. Things were more complicated than they seemed.

"These people are desperate," Ethan said, worried about Jasmine's safety. "Starting tomorrow, keep a close eye on Jasmine. Make sure she's safe."

"Ethan, what about you?" Liam asked, concerned.

"I have people around me," Ethan said, referring to the bodyguards and driver Richard had selected for him.

"If we put a bodyguard directly with Jasmine, she might get scared. Find someone to join LY and be her special assistant," Ethan instructed.

"Aren't I Ms. Cunningham's special assistant?" Liam asked, confused.

"You?" Ethan sneered. "You're more like a personal assistant. Can you fight off mercenaries?"

Liam conceded. He really couldn't.

"Choose someone capable," Ethan reminded him.

Liam agreed.

The next morning, as soon as Jasmine entered LY, she saw a familiar face. Tom was standing there in a black suit, looking quite intimidating.

Jasmine glanced at the company's sign. It was indeed LY, and she hadn't gone to the wrong place.

"Hi," Jasmine said, trying to ease the awkwardness as Tom stared at her.

Tom coolly put on his sunglasses and stood next to Jasmine. "Good morning, Ms. Cunningham. I'm the new special assistant, Tom."

Jasmine took a deep breath. Liam had said he would find her a capable special assistant, but he hadn't mentioned finding a fool.

"Um," Jasmine wanted to refuse but didn't dare. She was still afraid of Tom.

"Cool, right?" Tom looked around, and seeing no one else, he relaxed and stopped pretending to be a cold bodyguard.

"Cool," Jasmine said, not daring to say otherwise. Tom was tall, with a buzz cut and a shallow scar, exuding a thug-like aura. He looked like he could kill someone with a single punch.

"Has anyone ever told you that you have a face that looks like you would commit domestic violence?" Jasmine quietly asked.

"Who spread that rumor?" Tom was unhappy and raised his voice. "I never hit women, especially my wife. I spoil her."

Jasmine was easily startled, and Tom's occasional loud outbursts scared her. What should she do? She didn't want Tom as her special assistant.

"Why is this elevator so dark?" Tom complained as they entered the elevator.

Jasmine felt he was the type to criticize everything and kick a dog if it crossed his path.

"Try taking off your sunglasses," Jasmine said, holding her forehead.

Tom obediently took off his sunglasses. "These stupid sunglasses were blocking my view."

Jasmine was exasperated. Ethan probably never imagined that the reliable special assistant Liam chose would be Tom. If Ethan found out that Liam had placed his love rival next to Jasmine, he would probably strangle Liam.

"Tom, why did you choose to be a special assistant?" Jasmine asked quietly.

"I lost a bet with Connor. He said I should be your special assistant, claiming I'm a natural remedy for depression," Tom said, finding Connor's words incomprehensible.
