Chapter 765 Betty Begs Steven to Let Him Go

The Cunningham family.

A nanny was taking care of the two children, and Jasmine looked at the exhausted Richard.

"Rough night?" Jasmine was a bit surprised. Betty should have gone over there immediately.

Richard spoke with a hint of resentment. "Betty went to see Steven."

Although Richard trusted Betty, he didn't trust Steven.

Moreover, Betty wouldn't let him follow her.

"Steven was kind enough to give you a day off?" Jasmine mused. "That means he's still wary of Betty, for whatever reason."

Richard didn't say anything and picked up Indigo with one hand. "Was the little one well-behaved here?"

"She was very good." Jasmine smiled. "Justin and Joe both like her a lot."

Richard looked at Indigo and spoke softly. "Steven won't give up so easily, and he won't stay in Silverlight City for three months. If he leaves Silverlight City..."

If Steven left Silverlight City, Richard would be dangerous, and Jasmine knew that very well.

"I had Raymond look into it. The reason Steven is seen as a thorn in the side by the old folks of the Hughes family is that the Hughes family has too many gray and underground businesses. Steven wants to cut off those underground businesses, like a lizard shedding its tail to survive." Jasmine looked at Richard. "His real purpose in coming to Silverlight City this time is to seek police assistance. Many domestic fraud, trafficking, and kidnapping activities have disappeared within Steven's territory. Steven has completely taken control over there, and now he hopes to cooperate with the police to crack down on illegal activities, thereby intimidating those old folks in the Hughes family."

Richard was stunned, looking at Jasmine. No wonder so many people wanted Steven dead.

"He wants to use others to kill you." Jasmine could see that Steven wanted to use those who wanted him dead to get rid of Richard.

"This morning, an old comrade who hadn't contacted me in a long time reached out, saying he wanted to meet this afternoon. I guess it has something to do with Steven too." Richard spoke softly.

Jasmine shook her head. "Don't leave Silverlight City with him!"

Jasmine couldn't protect Richard once he left the country.

Steven and the Hughes family were highly dangerous. Richard should avoid getting involved if he could.

Richard was silent and said nothing.

"Richard, you have a family now. Think about Indigo. Even if you have to pay a penalty, you absolutely cannot leave Silverlight City with him." Jasmine reminded him again, hoping Richard would think it through. This was no joke.

Richard had been on missions before and knew the dangers over there. If he went, it would be hard to come back.

Bellagio Hotel.

Steven answered the phone, standing by the window with a serious expression. "Ronaldis getting impatient. We need to go back."

Marley was nervous. "Mr. Hughes, take more bodyguards with you. What about Richard?"

Steven was silent. Betty knew he had to go back, so she specifically came to threaten him, telling him not to think about taking Richard away.

This trip back was already fraught with danger. If he took Richard, he wouldn't come back alive.

Steven sneered. "He doesn't dare come with us."

Marley nodded. "Yes, even professional mercenaries are unwilling to take on the task of escorting Mr. Hughes, let alone a small bodyguard like him."

"Mr. Hughes, they've sent people over to escort you back. The police will protect you." Marley answered the phone and looked back at Steven. "Ronald is trying to sttuggle. As long as you're alive and still hold Silverwood's assets, he will do everything to kill you."

Steven was silent. Although he had returned, the danger hadn't been eliminated. This was also why he could give Richard three months.

Steven was actually giving himself three months.

If Steven could survive, he would never give up on Betty.

If he died, then it would be as if he had never returned.

"Leave me alone. I need to think along." Steven sat on the sofa, his mind filled with what Betty had said last night.

Taking out his phone, Steven called Betty. After their unpleasant parting earlier, he was a bit worried.

"Get to the point." Betty sounded a bit annoyed.

"The person who put the needle in Indigo's clothes has been found. It was Ronald's man. Ronald thought Indigo was my daughter and that Richard was just a cover you found." Steven spoke softly.

Betty was silent. Ever since she married Steven, her life had never been peaceful.

After Steven faked his death, she always had bodyguards around her, guarding against either Brade's people or the old folks from the Hughes family.

"Steven, after all this time, you still haven't dealt with those old folks. I thought when you came back, everything would be settled." Betty spoke in a low voice.

"I'll resolve it as soon as possible." Steven spoke softly.

Betty was silent again, then spoke after a long pause. "Steven, let me go."

Whether he succeeded or not, she didn't want to get involved with the Hughes family anymore.

Let her go. She had a child and a family now, she wasn't alone anymore.

"For the sake of me guarding the Hughes family assets for so many years." Betty laughed self-deprecatingly.

These years had never been easy for her.

Wherever she went, she had to have bodyguards. Before she met Richard, she hadn't even had a good night.

If she wasn't strong enough, she would have collapsed long ago.

This time, Steven was silent.

Neither of them hung up the phone first.

After a long time, Steven spoke first. "The three months are for Richard and for me. If I can resolve everything and survive, can you give me another chance?"

Steven was almost pleading.

"Steven, there's no chance. Even if Richard dies, I won't be with you. you have missed me." Betty answered firmly.

Steven laughed self-deprecatingly and said nothing more.

"Steven, I hope you live well." Betty said and hung up the phone.

Steven leaned back on the sofa, the atmosphere heavy.

Should he let go?

And what should he do about Betty?

If Richard were truly someone worth entrusting, it would be fine.

But Richard was just a bodyguard who couldn't give Betty anything, not even protection.

Steven didn't want to let go.

If he forced Richard to leave Silverlight City with him this time, and something happened to Richard, Betty would hate him for the rest of her life, right?

He didn't dare take that risk.

He was actually afraid.

Indeed, Betty was the greatest calamity and also the salvation of his life.
