Chapter 37 Justin Came to Find Dad
Downstairs.
Justin had searched high and low and couldn't find Mom, so he seized the moment his uncle wasn't looking to slip away.
Guided by memory, he went to Tranquil Manor, where Daniel had taken him and his mom, but the security guard wouldn't let him in. With nowhere else to turn, he made his way to find Ethan at Sterling Enterprises.
He had seen him on the news – everyone knew that Ethan was the most formidable man in Silverlight City.
So, he had to be the one who could save Mom.
"Kid, how old are you? You can't just go around calling anyone Dad, you know?" The security guard joked, charmed by five-year-old Justin’s cuteness and his handsome, heart-melting appearance.
"He is my dad," Justin said innocently.
Perhaps it was a child's persistence to seek out strength, wanting the most formidable man to be his dad – a surefire way to protect his mom.
"This kid's got talent," the security guard chuckled to the receptionist.
The receptionist, however, looked disdainful. "Look at his faded clothes – definitely from a poor family. Mr. Douglas is too busy for this – just send him away."
Justin clutched his washed-out stuffed toy and looked down, silent.
"Ugh, it's practically filthy – throw it out already," the receptionist said irritably, instructing that Justin be sent away. "This is a business, not a playground. What's going on with security, letting kids wander in like this?"
Justin looked down at the toy in his hands and whispered, "It's not dirty. Uncle made it for me – it’s Iron Man."
On closer inspection, the security guard realized that the toy in Justin’s hands was a crudely handmade Iron Man doll.
The security guard couldn't help but chuckle at Justin's antics, pleading in a hushed voice. "I'll take the kid outside right now. He's just a little guy, go easy on him, will ya?"
"Easy?" the receptionist snapped, annoyed. "This is a business! Hustle and get him out of here! Who knows where that kid's been? He might even be sick. If Mr. Douglas sees this, it'll be the end of your job." The receptionist continued to mutter under her breath, "What's with people these days? Showing up to find a daddy... Like everyone doesn't wish Mr. Douglas could be their kid's father. I know I do."
Justin clutched his stuffed toy, his eyes brimming with tears, ready to turn around and leave.
He wasn't dirty. His Uncle washed his clothes every day; they were not only clean but also smelled good.
"Justin?"
Ethan stepped out of the elevator and caught a glimpse of the little guy's disheartened figure, feeling an unexplained tightness in his chest.
With his eyes reddened, Justin turned and looked at Ethan, the picture of vulnerability.
"Mr... Mr. Douglas..." the security guard stuttered, quickly stepping aside in deference.
The receptionist paused, too. Mr. Douglas actually knew this kid?
"Where's your mom?" Ethan glanced around, surprised to see the little guy was all by himself.
"The bad guys took Mom. Dad and I are going to save her." Justin handed his precious Iron Man stuffed toy to Ethan. He must really like Ethan to give him something he treasured so much. "Dad fights the bad guys to protect Mom."
Liam, looking disgusted, was about to toss the toy away. It looked filthy; it was clearly made from old clothes. Mr. Douglas was known for his fastidiousness.
But Ethan took the stuffed toy, examining it. "Who made this for you?"
"My Uncle," Justin said carefully, watching Ethan's reaction. "If you come with me to save mom, I'll give it to you..."
Ethan paused for a moment, clearly seeing how much the kid cherished the doll.
"Come on, let's go find your mom," Ethan said, lifting the child with one arm and heading out.
Liam's jaw dropped in shock. This was all wrong. If Mr. Douglas showed any special attention to Jasmine, it was because she was useful, but this little troublemaker...
Wasn't Mr. Douglas supposed to hate kids?
Miss Lisa's kid would start crying at just the sight of Mr. Douglas.
And now, this grimy little kid was calling Mr. Douglas dad?
Apart from Liam, the receptionist was also too stunned to even breathe.
Since when did Mr. Douglas become a dad?
"Liam, what's going on here..." the receptionist asked nervously.
After seeing Ethan leaving with Justin in his arms, Liam replied offhandedly, "Mr. Douglas has recently taken a shine to philanthropy!"
The receptionist's face lit up with realization – so this was a child sponsored by Mr. Douglas.
What a stroke of luck.
To be held by Mr. Douglas, this kid must have saved the galaxy in a past life.
"People say Mr. Douglas is aloof and unapproachable, but he's so warm when he's holding a child."
"I'm already dreaming of having kids with Mr. Douglas..."
The receptionist and her coworkers were all swooning.
Meanwhile, Liam was getting anxious. "Mr. Douglas, you have a meeting."
"Reschedule it."
Ethan was in the car, looking at Justin. "Did your mom send you to find me?"
Justin shook his head. "Uncle’s phone – searched for Dad’s info and found this place."
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Who taught you that?"
