Chapter 638 Deborah Plans to Deal with Jasmine and Avery

Jasmine stood by the big window at LY Corporation, eyeing the fancy car below.

"What are you staring at?" Tom leaned in, spotting a Cullinan, the latest model. "Isn't that the one I like?"

Soon, a guy who looked like a celebrity stepped out of the car.

Jasmine watched him, lost in thought.

"I can tell he's all flash, no substance!" Tom grumbled. "Ethan's way better than him."

Jasmine found Tom annoying. "Move."

Tom looked confused.

Jasmine shoved him aside and kept looking out the window.

The handsome dude with the million-dollar car had a bouquet. Under everyone's gaze, he handed them to Emily, who had just finished work, then opened the car door for her and helped her in.

"Do you think this guy's for real?" Jasmine asked Tom.

Tom glanced over. "Guys like him are all about showing off, not genuine."

"You hang out with rich folks all the time. Do you know him?" Jasmine asked again.

Tom squinted. "He looks familiar."

Jasmine nodded. "He's after Emily."

Tom narrowed his eyes, thinking. "This guy doesn't seem sincere at all."

Jasmine didn't say anything and headed for the door. "Tom, I heard you've been cozying up to a pretty girl in sales lately?"

Tom scratched his head, looking guilty. "Oh, there's a girl chasing me."

Jasmine nodded. "Take a good look in the mirror and get a grip on reality."

With that, Jasmine left.

Tom looked at himself in the office mirror, puzzled. He was a pretty handsome guy, so what was the problem?

"Ma'am, where are you going?" Jasmine rarely left the company early, so Ben quickly stepped up to arrange things.

"Drive around San Francisco." Jasmine's voice was a bit hoarse.

Lately, she had gotten used to being with Ethan, considering him as essential as breathing.

Suddenly, Ethan disappeared, making it hard for Jasmine even to breathe.

Ben nodded and quietly stayed by Jasmine's side.

For Ben, the only thing he could do was be there for her.

The car drove through the streets of San Francisco, the outside world still as vibrant as ever, but her heart felt painfully empty.

If it weren't for the child in her belly, Jasmine couldn't imagine how long she could hold on.

She seemed to reach her limits.

"Ben, do you think it's my fault? Am I the reason people around me keep leaving?" Jasmine asked softly, tears streaming down.

She missed Ethan, really missed him.

Ben gripped the steering wheel tightly.

He didn't look back, just spoke softly, "Before coming to San Francisco, I checked the weather forecast. It often rains here, and it can start raining suddenly. Maybe it was clear skies before you get out, but then it suddenly became overcast and started raining before you could react."

He went on, "But if it rains, should I blame myself for going out? No, it's because the weather is an uncontrollable factor. It's not your fault. Don't punish yourself for the mistakes of bad people."

Jasmine looked up at Ben, her vision blurred by tears.

He was right.

She understood the logic, but when emotions surged, she couldn't control herself.

Her hands trembled, and even breathing was painful.

"When will he come back?" Jasmine choked out.

"Ben, when will he come back?" Jasmine kept asking over and over when Ethan would come back. "If he takes any longer, I won't forgive him."

Ben gripped the steering wheel tightly, not daring to answer the question.

"Ms. Cunningham, there's a banquet at the Phillips family tonight. Their eldest daughter, who was studying abroad, just got back. We should go and show our support." After a long silence, Ben changed the subject.

The Phillips family, though not in the business circle, was one of the old families in San Francisco.

Old families in San Francisco were rare, with only a few having accumulated connections, wealth, and power over several generations, something ordinary business people couldn't compare to.

The San Francisco socialite scene was highly competitive, with many wealthy daughters vying for attention. Those without enough assets didn't even qualify to enter, but for them, it was as simple as shopping.

The Phillips family had only one daughter in this generation, Jessica Phillips, who her family highly favored.

Jasmine didn't know much about the Phillips family because they weren't in the business circle and rarely intervened in the market, so she hadn't paid much attention.

But since they sent an invitation, she had to show respect by attending.

Besides the Phillips family, the Long family was also one of the old families in San Francisco. Samuel was one of the few from the Long family who chose to go into business. For families like theirs, business was not considered a respectable choice.

It was a miracle that Jasmine managed to keep Samuel at LY.

"Ms. Cunningham, you need to stay strong. The situation in San Francisco is very chaotic right now. You need to protect your child and also the people and things Mr.  Douglas cares about." Ben wanted Jasmine to stay strong.

Jasmine nodded, looking at her almost bleeding palms.

Death was the simplest thing for her.

Living was the hard part.

Deborah had arrived early at the Phillips family, chatting and laughing with Jessica.

Deborah had met Jessica in Muskow and knew that Jessica was someone worth leveraging, so she used every means to become good friends with her.

Now that Jessica had returned, it was an additional asset and support for Deborah.

"Is that Avery still bullying you?" Jessica asked angrily.

"She's the legit daughter, and I'm just an illegitimate child. It's only right for her to hit me a couple of times." Deborah clung to Jessica's arm. "It's no big deal for me."

Jessica frowned at Deborah. "You're too soft. You get hit and don't even fight back. So what if you're an illegitimate child? It's not your fault. Besides, what era is this?"

With a cold snort, Jessica raised an eyebrow. "If you don't dare to fight back, I'll do it for you. How dare she hit you? Who does she think she is? In front of my family, she's nothing."

Yes, in front of old families, what were business people? They only need to use their connections to bring down a company.

Offending an old family was indeed the most unwise choice.

Deborah smiled and said, "Besides Avery, there's also the eldest daughter the Cunningham family found, who's even more formidable."

"The one competing with you for Ethan? What's her name, Yasmine Cunningham?" Jessica asked. "The Cunningham family is also one of the old families, but they left San Francisco for Muskow years ago. Their power center is not in here. They can't compare to my Phillips family."

Deborah nodded with a smile. "She doesn't have the qualifications to compare with you."

Jessica took a sip of coffee. "I want to see how formidable this Avery and Yasmine really are."
