Chapter 222: Jasmine negotiates with Nolan Cunningham for Ethan's sake
Outside the door, Liam continued frantically ringing the doorbell and calling Ethan.
However, Ethan continued to ignore him, pretending to be deaf.
"Mr. Douglas, please don't get angry... I'm outside your house knocking on the door, Mr. Douglas seems to not be home, I will definitely get in touch with you, please don't be impulsive," Liam pleaded.
"Mr. Douglas, Ethan is your son. Fathers don't really get angry with their own sons, you can't do this," he continued.
"The board members won't agree either." Liam was getting desperate, almost cursing Howard for being such a despicable person.
It was clear that Howard was using shares and the CEO position to threaten Ethan, saying that he had to arrive at the company conference room within half an hour, otherwise he would bring the board members to dismiss Ethan from his position.
"Mr. Douglas!" Liam hung up the phone, on the verge of tears.
Now was not the time. He didn't know what Ethan was thinking, suddenly announcing their relationship on Weibo.
Unable to reach Ethan, Liam had no choice but to call Jasmine.
...
On the other side, Jasmine was feeling anxious, hearing her phone ring and wanting to answer the call.
"It's so noisy," Ethan deliberately held Jasmine back, not letting her answer the phone.
Jasmine couldn't do anything about Ethan. "Mr. Douglas... it's Liam calling, what if it's something urgent?"
"What urgent matter could he have that I don't?" Ethan pulled Jasmine closer, trapping her in his arms like an octopus. "Go to sleep."
"Mr. Douglas..." Jasmine's voice was hoarse.
"Starting tomorrow, don't call me Mr. Douglas anymore," Ethan joked.
Today, he had angered Howard, and he was definitely going to be dismissed from his position as CEO. He wanted Jasmine to get used to it in advance.
"Mr. Douglas..." Jasmine looked at Ethan in shock. "Let's go to the company first and delay it temporarily, okay?"
"No need to worry about it," Ethan's attitude was firm.
Jasmine looked at Ethan, feeling a sense of inexplicable heartache.
What kind of desperation had Ethan's father put him in to make him choose opposition so firmly?
Jasmine didn't ask too much. She was nervous and didn't know if Ethan had made any arrangements, or if he had any way out.
"Ding." Jasmine's phone vibrated, it was a text message.
She reached out and took a glance at her phone, taking a deep breath.
It was a dismissal notice sent by the company.
Clearly, Howard had the HR department dismiss her as a warning to Ethan.
"The company sent a dismissal notice," Jasmine spoke softly.
Ethan slowly opened his eyes, his gaze deep.
"Mr. Douglas, how about you go to the company with Liam?" Jasmine sighed, feeling unsure.
Getting up from bed, Jasmine helped Ethan prepare a new suit and tie.
"Unjustified dismissal of an employee will have consequences. Apply for labor arbitration and sue him," Ethan leaned against the headboard, smiling as he spoke.
His tone made it seem as if Stellar Enterprises had no relation to him anymore.
"I will apply for labor arbitration. So, Mr. Douglas... can you go to the company now?" Jasmine sighed, who could have thought that Ethan needed to be reminded to go to the company privately. "It would be a pity if you compromise now."
Jasmine knew that Ethan must have endured for many years, from his mom's death until now.
How could he give up just because of this?
Especially... he shouldn't give up on what was rightfully his because of her.
"What did you call me?" Ethan mumbled.
Jasmine took a suit from the closet, her fingers hesitated for a moment. "Ethan..."
"I don't want to be called that," Ethan played with the ring on his finger.
Consciously or unconsciously reminding Jasmine.
Jasmine's face turned red, but she still didn't speak.
"Then I won't go. No motivation," Ethan turned the ring and complained, "Wearing the ring but no wife, so pitiful."
Jasmine's heart raced. It was already this late, how could he... why wasn't he anxious or flustered at all?
What would he do if he got kicked out of the company?
"Hu... husband," Jasmine bit her lip, her voice lower than a mosquito's.
Ethan's fingers froze for a moment, and he sat up straight. "Didn't hear you."
Outside the door, Liam's voice was hoarse and frantic.
If you didn't know, you'd think there was a pig being slaughtered outside.
"Mr. Douglas! Mr. Douglas, come out..."
"..."
Jasmine wanted to laugh, but also felt sorry for Liam.
For now, she had to coax Ethan. "Hu... husband."
"Is this name too difficult to say?" Ethan raised an eyebrow, pulling Jasmine into his arms. "Didn't hear it clearly."
"Husband..." Jasmine gritted her teeth and called out.
But in reality, calling out this title wasn't as awkward as she imagined, and there was even a little... excitement.
Ethan tightened his hold on Jasmine's hand and kissed her forehead. "Marriage is supposed to be sacred, but those scumbags ruined the rules..."
His eyes darkened, and Ethan stood up and changed into his suit, adjusting his cuffs.
To reassure Jasmine, he could only go meet with the people from the Howard and Brown families.
"Don't act impulsively," Jasmine reminded Ethan. "Temporarily hold off Howard. Even if you have to step down from the CEO position, it doesn't matter; you can claim illness."
Ethan looked at Jasmine, his lips curling up. "You underestimate how ruthless Howard can be."
"That's okay..." Jasmine clenched her hands. "I have a plan."
"Hmm?" Ethan raised an eyebrow, curious about Jasmine's plan.
"You go first, you'll know once you go," Jasmine told Ethan to go to the company.
Ethan smiled, pinched Jasmine's chin, and kissed her. "Okay."
He also wanted to know what surprise his little wife had prepared for him.
After seeing Ethan off, Jasmine stood at the door in silence for a long time.
Finally, she gathered up her courage and called Nolan Cunningham.
"Mr. Cunningham..."
...
In the meeting room of Cunningham's Family's Silverlight City branch, Nolan Cunningham glanced at his phone's display and raised his hand to signal a pause in the meeting.
Taking his phone with him, Nolan Cunningham stood up and went to the side to answer the call.
The employees exchanged puzzled glances. Mr. Nolan never took calls during meetings.
"You finally decided to call me. So, what's the situation? Is Ethan on the brink of failure?" Nolan Cunningham asked with a smile.
"Howard has already called for a board meeting," Jasmine whispered.
"Do you want me to help Ethan?" Nolan Cunningham asked.
"It's a win-win situation," Jasmine reminded Nolan Cunningham. Not just one-sided assistance; don't make it sound so grand.
Nolan Cunningham raised an eyebrow and listened intently to Jasmine.
"Although Cunningham's Family is a prominent family with a significant presence in the business world, it's primarily of Chinese origin, not the core in the U.S. market. These years, Cunningham's Family has been striving to establish a solid position in the Silverlight City market, right?" Jasmine countered Nolan Cunningham.
Nolan Cunningham chuckled but remained silent.
"A strategic alliance is a win-win situation," Jasmine spoke again.
"Is Ethan willing to marry Jennifer Lopes?" Nolan Cunningham asked.
Jasmine was right. Nolan Cunningham also had his own ulterior motives. He wouldn't help Ethan just because of Jasmine's request. Cunningham's Family had long planned to solidify their position in the Silverlight City market.
Ethan was clearly the best choice.
"Not Jennifer Lopes," Jasmine clasped her hands tightly. "It's the true heiress of Cunningham's Family."
Jasmine took a deep breath.
Nolan Cunningham laughed. "Jasmine, you're quite good at buying time. Since I promised you a year, you're using this as an opportunity to delay Ethan for a year..."
"Do you think Ethan, with his abilities, can completely secure Stellar Enterprises within a year?" Nolan Cunningham spoke again.
"One year is enough," Jasmine clenched her lips. "He is not alone."
She helped him.
