Chapter 584 Everyone Worries About Richard
Sophia was totally floored, staring at him in shock. "Richard, what the heck are you doing?"
Richard, looking like he hadn't slept in days, glanced at Sophia. "I don't even know you."
Jasmine's jaw dropped. "Richard."
Richard, rubbing his temples like he had a migraine, shook his head. "I think I forgot everything."
Sophia's face twisted in anger.
She had paid someone to mess with Richard's memory, so he'd only remember stuff before he met Betty. But that idiot made him forget everything.
"Your plan totally backfired. You tried so hard to make Richard forget his wife and remember his ex, but now he's got amnesia." Edgar pieced it all together.
Sophia's face got even darker.
"You're seriously twisted." Arnold glared at Sophia, seething.
Sophia clenched her teeth. "Don't listen to his crap. I'd never hurt my son."
"Then why were you the first one here when Richard had his accident?" Arnold demanded, his voice low and menacing.
"Obviously, because I knew Richard was in trouble and rushed over." Sophia huffed, not saying another word.
Arnold didn't push further. Karma was a thing, and Sophia would get hers.
"Richard." Aleah's voice cracked. "Richard, have you really forgotten me? It's Aleah. We were in love when we were young. You liked me since you were a teenager and always said you'd marry me, give me the best life, and never let me suffer. You even promised to do all the housework and never let me be wronged."
Aleah kept going on about their past, hoping Richard would remember her.
Meanwhile, Betty stood off to the side, her face dark, teeth clenched as she watched Richard.
She thought Richard was clueless, yet he'd said all these sweet things to his ex.
Why wasn't he that sweet with her?
With a cold snort, Betty raised her hand and flexed her fingers one by one.
"Go on, keep talking, see if he remembers you." Betty clapped her hands, egging Aleah on.
Richard looked at Betty, feeling a headache coming on, inexplicably nervous and scared.
Shivering, Richard's gut told him to be wary of Betty.
"Richard, before you went to the army, you told me you'd marry me when you got back. Do you remember?" Aleah stepped closer, taking off a necklace with a ring on it. "Have you forgotten? This is our love token. You said you'd marry me when you came back and gave me this ring."
Betty laughed. Aleah hadn't worn that ring before; she must've gone through a lot to find it or paid for a replica.
She was playing him for a fool.
Richard rubbed his temples. "Sorry, I don't remember."
Aleah cried. "Richard, how could you forget me?"
Richard sneaked a glance at Betty, who was giving him a cold smile, and quickly looked away.
"Richard, do you remember the night before you left, we were at the hotel?" Aleah said, her eyes red, trying to imply something.
Betty looked at Richard with a sinister smile, clapping her hands in mock applause.
Richard had never told her about any of this.
Betty didn't believe Richard had touched Aleah, but she was just insanely jealous.
Ethan coughed, worried for Richard.
Jasmine was freaking out too. This time, Richard was in real trouble.
Cordelia and Nolan were also silently stressing over Richard.
"Richard, do you remember me at all?" Aleah asked, her voice shaky.
Richard looked lost. "You look kinda familiar."
But he really couldn't place her.
"Are you done?" Betty snapped at Aleah, clearly annoyed.
Aleah wiped her tears, staying silent.
"Good, you're done. Now it's my turn." Betty grabbed Richard's chin, forcing him to look at her. "Do you remember who I am?"
Richard honestly shook his head.
Betty nodded. "Good."
Then she raised her hand and slapped Richard. "How about now?"
The slap left everyone in shock.
Arnold instinctively hid behind Cordelia. His daughter-in-law was too fierce.
Richard was also stunned, nervously looking at Betty. She did seem more familiar now.
Over there, Aleah and Sophia were losing it.
"Why did you hit him?" Aleah asked, then turned to Richard, trying to comfort him. "Are you okay?"
Richard instinctively backed away from Aleah, still in shock.
Betty shoved Aleah aside. "Back off. How I treat my husband is none of your business."
Aleah looked at Betty, hurt. "Why did you hit him?"
"Because he's my husband, the father of my child. Why can't I hit him?" Betty warned Aleah. "Keep talking, and I'll hit you too."
Then Betty turned back to Richard, her eyes sharp. "Do you remember me now?"
Richard shook his head. "Sorry, I..."
Another slap. Betty hit Richard again, but it wasn't hard. She was just jealous and mostly heartbroken.
Richard was stunned again, his mind clearing for a moment, flashing images of being with Betty, Betty teasing him, in bed.
His ears turned red instantly. Richard raised his hand to cover his forehead, thinking he was losing it.
Betty bent down to look into Richard's eyes. "What did you remember?"
Richard quickly shook his head. "Nothing."
Betty squinted. "It's okay. No rush; take your time."
Arnold coughed. "Betty, we'll all step out. You and Richard need to talk. It'll help him get his memory back. Just don't hit him anymore."
Arnold thought, 'Don't break him further. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed.'
"Okay, Dad," Betty said calmly, sitting back.
Arnold shot a cold look at Sophia. "Let's go. Why are you still here? Got no shame?"
Sophia snorted. "He's my son. Why can't I be here?"
"Have some shame." Cordelia stepped up and pushed Sophia out.
Dealing with Sophia needed action; words wouldn't cut it.
Sophia wanted to argue, but Nolan and the others at the door blocked the bodyguards, and Cordelia pushed Sophia out.
Arnold followed, staying behind Cordelia.
"Let's go. Why are you still here?" Jasmine reached out, signaling Aleah to leave.
Aleah cried and shook her head. "I'm not leaving. Richard, remember me quickly."
Jasmine sighed. "You really have no shame. They're married. How could you...?"
Jasmine couldn't find the right words, so she copied her mom and pushed Aleah out.
In the ward, only Betty and Richard were left.
Betty sat back, casually watching Richard.
As long as he was okay, it didn't matter if his brain was a bit slow.
"Do you remember who I am now?"
Richard cautiously spoke. "No."
Betty raised her hand, and Richard immediately changed his tune. "My wife?"
