Chapter 322 Richard Awkwardly Confesses His Feelings to Betty.
"I have seen you working day and night, collapsing in the alley and sleeping deeply."
"I have seen you fighting for Aurora, getting beaten up badly."
"I have seen you go crazy chasing after Aurora, begging her not to leave."
"Richard, I have seen you loving someone else the most." Betty actually thought that since Richard loved Aurora so much, he couldn't possibly love her with the same intensity.
There was a sense of resentment in her heart, but she couldn't control her desire to be close to Richard.
Since returning to the country, Betty had been suffering from insomnia. She failed to sleep night after night, relying on sleeping pills to get by.
It was when Richard agreed to come to her that she had a good night.
Richard sat quietly with his back to Betty. His hands clenched tightly and his veins were bulging.
Betty looked at Richard's back, afraid that he would leave like that.
"Now that you know I gave her 100,000 dollars, will you leave me?" Betty choked.
Richard remained silent.
"You know I gave her the money and forced her to leave. Will you still want me?"
Betty cried because she was unable to control her emotions.
Hearing Betty cry, Richard's heart ached.
After enduring for a long time, Richard stood up. He didn't show any mercy, grabbed Betty's ankle, pulled her to the edge of the bed, and pinned her down. "Can't you speak nicely?"
Betty stubbornly tried to wipe away her tears.
Richard held her wrists firmly, refusing to let her move. He just looked at her, watching her cry. He wanted her to tear off all the masks of pretense and reveal her true self to him. He knew that beneath Betty's mask, there might be scars and wounds, but he wanted to see her true self and then shower her with affection.
"Your girlfriend, she doesn't just need money for her father's illness. The surgery and postoperative care for her father only cost 4,000 dollars. The money you earned and the tips I gave you at the bar were more than enough! She contacted school mentors behind your back, trying to self-fund her study abroad opportunity. She's short on money because she was ambitious." Betty yelled and cursed at Richard, "You're just a fool! I've never seen a man dumber than you!"
Richard felt helpless.
'Why couldn't she speak nicely? Why resort to insults?' Richard thought to himself.
But for some reason, Richard's eyes turned red.
"When I found out she wanted to study abroad and reach higher goals, I knew it! She didn't love you, you fool! She wanted to leave you!" Betty vented.
That's when Aurora started to distance herself from Richard.
Only Richard, still foolishly in love with her, disregarded everything.
"For money, she betrayed you long ago, she slept with a wealthy man in a hotel, and I happened to catch her. I wanted to confront her about why she did this to you, but I couldn't because I had no standing. I gave her money to prevent her from debasing herself, to prevent her from hurting you again." Betty's voice lowered, sounding more and more aggrieved.
Betty had been pretending to be strong every day, but she was also a woman. She could feel wrong, too, and she needed protection, too.
"I thought you could live a simple and happy life with this money. You're not lazy. Your life will be plain but happy."
Betty never expected Aurora to choose to go abroad.
It was Aurora's choice, and she ultimately gave up on Richard.
"You've known for a long time that she cheated on you with an older man, but you blame yourself instead of her. I know why you took those underground fighting gigs, it's because you found out about Aurora's infidelity, and you only blame yourself for not having the money or ability."
So Richard foolishly went to fight in those underground matches, risking his life. Even though he hadn't rested properly for days, he still went to fight in those matches, facing opponents who were full of energy.
Wasn't he seeking death?
"Fool, let go of me," Betty grew angrier the more she thought about it. "Don't touch me. I'm afraid of being infected by you."
What should she do if she becomes foolish?
But Richard held her wrists, his gaze burning into her eyes, refusing to let go.
Betty's heart tightened as she stared at Richard's bloodshot eyes.
Those burning eyes were intense, as if they could burn a hole through her, just like the day she first saw him in the boxing ring.
"Betty," Richard called out her name and leaned in to kiss her. The kiss was passionate yet extremely gentle. "I'm a fool, I don't know romance or sweet talk, I'm not good at coaxing people, I'm just a straightforward person. I've lived like a fool for so many years, never knowing how to flatter, always compromising for Aurora, Jasmine, and Justin, but I've never bowed my head for myself."
Richard tore open Betty's clothes, knelt at the foot of the bed, and trapped her long legs around his waist.
Betty looked at Richard, her heart beating fast.
"Betty, you're the first person who made me willingly want to lower my head for myself... as long as you're not tricking me, I want to be with you. I will strive to be worthy of you. I will protect you. I will give you everything I have, including my life." Betty turned her head away, her voice hoarse.
"Fool... what use do I have for your life?" Richard held Betty's chin, making her look at him.
"I love you, and I will only love you more in the future." Betty hmphed and ignored Richard. But deep down, she felt a sense of relief, as if a burden had been lifted.
Whatever sweet words Richard said sounded awkward, but she still loved hearing them.
"You asked me if I still love Aurora. I've never given a direct answer, but now I can tell you, on the day she left for abroad when I stood at the airport and waited all night, I had already given up. I understand that we are fated to belong to different realms. I can only let go and allow her to chase after her happiness."
So when Richard later heard about Aurora's marriage, he felt nothing.
"Liar," Betty remained stubborn.
"Why can't you speak your true feelings?" Richard was puzzled by Betty's inability to communicate properly.
"It's my true feelings," Betty hmphed.
Richard leaned in his movements at the waist deepening. Betty bit her lip, looking angrily at Richard. Richard chuckled. "There's something I really want to do to you now."
Betty blushed instantly. This jerk was actually teasing her back.
This was getting out of hand.
"If you dare, make me cry," Betty grabbed Richard's neck, hung on his waist, and took the lead.
Richard bit down on Betty's slender neck, this time with more force, deliberately leaving bite marks.
Betty cooed in affection.
"Richard, are you a dog? You jerk!" she shouted.
