Chapter 925 Vincent Refuses to Be Ambiguous with Lily
One of the less tactful employees blurted out, "Bradley, that ring looks just like Mr. Russell's. Did you two buy matching wedding bands?"
Bradley froze, then lowered his head and continued eating.
Brandon smiled at everyone and took Bradley's hand. "We're legally married."
The employee cafeteria fell completely silent.
Bradley took a deep breath, shot Brandon an angry look, and stood up with his tray. "I'm done eating!"
Thanks to Brandon's little announcement, Bradley would never be able to eat in the staff cafeteria again—exactly what Brandon had wanted all along! All those women who had crushes on Brandon would surely hate him now. No more friendly smiles, no more offering him apples and bananas from the company kitchen.
Seeing that Bradley was genuinely upset, Brandon quickly got up and followed him. "Bradley?"
Bradley ignored him and headed straight for the elevator, trying to close the doors.
Brandon smiled as he blocked the doors and stepped inside, deliberately taking Bradley's hand.
Since they were alone, Bradley didn't pull away.
But a moment later, the elevator doors opened again, and employees who had finished lunch piled in.
The atmosphere in the elevator became unbearably awkward.
Bradley tried to pull his hand away, but it was too late.
Brandon tightened his grip with a mischievous smile, refusing to let go.
"Office relationships aren't allowed," Bradley whispered.
"Says who? That was the Douglas Group's policy. This is the Raymond Group, and Ethan changed that rule ages ago. Relationships are fine as long as they don't affect work," Brandon replied shamelessly. "Besides, this isn't just dating—we're legally married."
Bradley was witnessing Brandon's shamelessness firsthand. He took a deep breath and stopped talking, keeping his head down through the awkward scrutiny.
But the employees didn't seem bothered at all. Everyone still smiled at him just as warmly and kindly as before.
"I always wondered what kind of woman could possibly land someone as amazing as Mr. Russell," one said. "Now I feel better knowing it wasn't a woman at all!"
"They make such a handsome couple. I love it..."
"We're so lucky to see this!"
"Just for Mr. Russell and Bradley, I'm never quitting this job."
The employees continued their excited chatter as they left the elevator.
Still in the elevator and overhearing everything, Bradley's ears turned bright red.
"There are still many good people in this world, aren't there?" Brandon looked at Bradley. "If you end things, you'll miss out on so much beauty."
Life wasn't meant to be spent staring into the darkness. Darkness had a way of swallowing everything whole. Sometimes, you just had to turn around, step into the sunlight, and let yourself see the world.
"You have no shame," Bradley huffed.
Brandon raised an eyebrow. "Would I have won you over any other way?"
Bradley couldn't help but laugh despite his irritation.
Just as they stepped out of the elevator, Bradley received a call from Vincent.
Vincent spoke bluntly, "Bradley, now that you've gained Brandon's trust and successfully infiltrated the Raymond Group, help me with the Windflower Community project. I don't want the Raymond Group to win that contract."
Bradley pulled the phone away to check the caller ID—it was definitely Vincent. What game was he playing now?
Still, Vincent's words made Bradley nervous. He glanced at Brandon, worried he might think Bradley had been faking everything just to gain his trust.
"Alright, I'll find a way to sabotage the proposal," Bradley played along.
Vincent quickly hung up.
Bradley was about to explain to Brandon.
"Is he mentally ill or something?" Brandon didn't seem concerned about Bradley's loyalty. "Ethan told me about him—he loves playing these games. The Windflower Community project doesn't even have much profit margin. Let him have it."
Bradley's heart raced as he stole a glance at Brandon.
Since they'd gotten their marriage certificate and made things official, Brandon really had changed in many ways.
"Do you really trust me that much?" Bradley asked quietly.
"You wouldn't go so far as to scheme your way into a marriage certificate with me, would you?" Brandon's lips curved into a smile. "Even if it was all a scheme, I think I'm the one who came out ahead."
Bradley was speechless.
Brandon figured trading a few insignificant projects for a husband was a bargain he'd take any day.
At Vincent's house, Vincent was in a foul mood after his performance in front of Lily that afternoon.
Lily sat beside Vincent with a bowl of freshly washed fruit. "Bradley must be quite talented to have earned Brandon's trust so completely."
"I've secured the Windflower Community project for you. Bradley will handle things at the Raymond Group, so you can make your bid," Vincent smiled at Lily.
Touched, Lily leaned into Vincent's arms, attempting to kiss him.
Vincent gently held her head back. "Have you had breakfast? Let's eat together."
In the dining room, Selene stood holding a large serving spoon, glaring at the couple on the sofa.
"Mr. Hamilton, dinner is ready," Selene said through gritted teeth.
Lily and Vincent acted as if they hadn't heard.
Lily was still pouting. "Do you find me repulsive? Every time I try to get close to you, you push me away."
"I've told you—I want to wait until I can truly be responsible for you, until you're ready to let me be responsible. I'm not like Rhett," Vincent said solemnly.
Lily looked away. "You always use that excuse."
"Lily..." Vincent sighed, taking her hand.
Selene rolled her eyes. She'd reheated this meal eight times already.
"I know what you've been through, even if you won't tell me. I don't want to trigger any more trauma or cause you any more irresponsible harm," Vincent kissed Lily's forehead. "That's why I can wait."
Lily paused, her eyes welling with tears as she clasped her hands tightly, silent with insecurity.
Of course Vincent knew about her past.
The fact that she had been repeatedly assaulted had never been a secret.
"Don't think about it. It's in the past. Those monsters have all disappeared from Silverlight City. They will never appear in your life again—not now, not ever," Vincent promised.
Lily's eyes glistened with tears as she hugged Vincent. "Thank you."
Women were often most vulnerable to falling in love when they were already wounded.
And Vincent was an expert at capturing women's hearts.
"Mr. Hamilton, Mrs. Hamilton, dinner!" Selene called from the dining table, watching the couple who had been arguing moments ago now embracing.
They continued to ignore her.
Fine.
Selene stormed back to the kitchen, noisily reheating their "breakfast" yet again.
Selene texted: [Liam, Vincent is flaunting his relationship to torture me.]
Liam replied: [Selene, hang in there a little longer.]
Selene secretly tried to record Vincent and Lily from the kitchen, but accidentally hit the camera shutter button.
Lily and Vincent heard that. They both turned, fixing Selene with deadly glares.
Selene suddenly felt her life expectancy drastically shortening.
