Chapter 722 Emily was Kidnapped
The conference room was chaotic, everyone talking at once.
The Powell family aligned with the future leader of the Douglas Group. Whoever they supported would likely become CEO, as it wasn't just about shares; senior management and board members voted, too.
Ethan's abilities were well-respected, and they wouldn't risk offending him.
But the Douglas Group was at a critical juncture; without the Powell family's project, their future looked bleak.
Everyone knew they needed to stabilize the group to protect their interests, so they agreed to the Powell family's terms.
Jasmine looked at Ethan, worried.
What did Lily mean by this?
Was she helping or hurting them?
"We will sign a contract with Bradley," the Powell family representative said in a deep voice.
Mark's face darkened as he frowned.
Lily had actually chosen Bradley, the most inconspicuous one, as their favorite?
Lily was trying to avoid offending either side by choosing a neutral party.
Jasmine's expression soured too. Lily hadn't dared to choose Mark or Daniel, knowing it would completely offend Ethan and Jasmine, who had helped her establish herself in the Powell family. Offending Ethan now wasn't smart.
Jasmine's face turned pale, and she stayed silent for a long time.
Lily had been really clever.
Bradley looked confused and instinctively glanced at Ethan, who remained silent.
Bradley then looked at Mark and Daniel. "What's going on?"
"Since the Powell family wants to sign with you, then sign," Mark said in a low voice.
Mark thought Bradley was under his control, so he agreed to let him sign.
After all, half of Bradley's shares were already contracted to Daniel. With enough shares, there was no fear Bradley could overturn the situation.
Mark got up angrily and left, while Daniel stayed seated, relieved it wasn't him.
After signing the contract, the Powell family left. The Douglas Group now needed their support and cooperation, and Bradley's becoming the leader of the Douglas Group was only a matter of time.
"Since they chose Bradley, Mr. Douglas, sorry." A few senior executives sighed. "This is the most difficult time for the Douglas Group. Bradley is also young and promising. You have the most shares, so you should understand."
They all began to persuade Ethan to give up his position to Bradley voluntarily.
"No, I don't think it's necessary. They probably just said it casually, deliberately," Bradley said, looking confused. "Ethan should continue to manage."
"That's not possible. The Powell family has always valued this. If they say no, then it's probably no." The board members sighed. "Bradley, you are also a member of the Douglas family. You should contribute more to the Douglas Group."
Bradley remained silent.
"In that case, let's do as everyone says," Ethan said in a deep voice.
Since he couldn't change or influence the board's decision, he could only temporarily step down.
Was this a coincidence or intentional on Bradley's part?
"Ethan," Bradley said nervously after everyone left. "This is clearly someone trying to sow discord."
Ethan nodded. "Just do your part."
Everything would be left to time.
Bradley stood in the conference room for a long time before leaving.
Ethan took Jasmine to the office.
"Are you upset?" Ethan gently coaxed Jasmine.
"I considered her a friend," Jasmine said softly.
"This kind of temptation is too great; she couldn't refuse," Ethan said.
Ethan and Jasmine couldn't help Lily fully establish her position in the Powell family or eliminate all threats. But Mark could.
Mark's offer to Lily was clear: he would help her get rid of Amara and solidify her standing in the Powell family.
"I called Emily, but she didn't answer." Jasmine was a little worried and continued to call Emily, but no one answered.
Jasmine's eyelids twitched. Had something happened to Emily?
Her phone rang—it was Lily, crying.
"Jasmine, they threatened me to do this. I could only choose Bradley, who is in a neutral position, so you can take back control in the future," Lily said, crying. "Jasmine, they took Emily and used her to threaten me."
Jasmine's heart skipped a beat, and she stood up abruptly. "Emily is in trouble? When did this happen, and why are you only telling me now?"
"I'm sorry, they took Emily. I was afraid something would happen to her, so I didn't dare call the police. I agreed to all their conditions, but they still haven't released Emily," Lily said, crying.
Jasmine paced anxiously.
Emily must not be in trouble.
"Lily, we must find Emily. I'm flying to Kerea immediately."
After hanging up the phone, Jasmine looked at Ethan with red eyes. "Emily is in trouble. Lily said those people used Emily to threaten her."
Jasmine didn't know if there was any truth left in Lily's words.
She always felt that Lily had become very scary.
"Let Tom, Ben, and Raymond go with you." This way, Ethan could be more at ease.
Jasmine nodded and quickly ran out.
Emily must not be in trouble.
Since when did Jasmine start considering Emily as family?
They had no blood relation, but they had already become part of each other's lives.
When Jasmine arrived at Kerea, Lily was crying in the living room.
Her eyes were swollen, looking like she had been crying for a long time.
Jasmine hurriedly ran over. "Where's Emily? Haven't you found her yet?"
Lily shook her head, crying. "Not yet."
Jasmine took a deep breath. "What did the police say?"
"They've been looking. I did everything those people asked, but they still took Emily," Lily said, crying and praying. "Emily is such a good person; she will be fine. I didn't know they would kidnap Emily."
"It's all my fault. They should have taken me." Lily cried, covering her eyes.
Jasmine sat down in despair. "Don't blame yourself too much. Emily will be fine."
"Don't worry too much." Ben handed her a cup of hot water, comforting her softly. "Raymond and Tom have already gone to look. Raymond has a company here; he's familiar with here. Kerea isn't big; it shouldn't be too hard to find someone."
Jasmine nodded with red eyes, tightly clasping her hands, praying to find Emily soon.
