Chapter 805 Nolan is penniless now.
"I've been feeling a bit tired lately," Nolan tentatively began.
Edward looked at Nolan with concern. "If you're tired, take a rest. Have you been getting regular check-ups?"
Nolan felt a bit comforted that Edward still cared about him and nodded. "Silas helped me arrange a check-up a couple of days ago."
Edward immediately became alert. "What were the results?"
Nolan was silent for a moment. How should he explain this? His chronic appendicitis due to long-term irregular eating habits, if severe, might require surgery?
"Don't ask," He didn't want to say. As the eldest child in the family, he always wanted to set an example for his younger siblings, so he spoke again. "You're the second oldest in the family. Besides me, you're the oldest, so you must set a good example for our younger siblings, especially Edgar. Make sure he eats three meals a day and doesn't skip breakfast."
Edward's eyes turned red, feeling like Nolan was giving his last words.
Was it because of his exhaustion over the years, coupled with irregular eating habits, that led to stomach cancer?
Edward felt a bit guilty and lowered his head. "Nolan, actually, Edgar and I can manage the company. If you're not feeling well, just take a break."
Nolan looked at Edward in surprise.
He pretended to be calm, coughed, and nodded. "I have the same thought. I might need to leave for a year. During this year, take good care of our siblings."
Edward's eyes turned even redder. "A year? Where are you going? We'll go with you."
"No need, I can handle it myself." Nolan stood up and looked at Edward. "What's wrong with your eyes? They're so red. Have you been staying up late? Staying up late and irregular routines can lead to cancer."
Edward felt even more like crying.
Nolan sighed. "Follow me these days. I'll hand over what needs to be handed over to you. You're more reliable than Edgar, and I trust you with the company."
Edward sniffled. "Nolan, where are you going?"
"To Sunrise City. The air is fresh there, and I'll rest for a year," Nolan said honestly.
Edward's nose turned sour as he sat aside and typed in the group chat.
[Nolan is indeed hiding something from us. He must have been diagnosed with stomach cancer and said he would leave for a year, probably for surgery.]
Edgar, Jasmine and Ethan were all shocked.
Edward continued: [It's all my and Edgar's fault. We should have helped him share the burden earlier. He's going to Sunrise City to recuperate for a year because he doesn't want us to worry about him.]
Edgar replied with a crying emoji.
Jasmine replied/;[ I'll come back to the Cunningham family tonight.]
Ethan asked: [Is there any misunderstanding? Nolan looks fit enough to take down a bull.]
Edward replied: [Maybe he's strong on the outside but weak on the inside. Early-stage cancer isn't noticeable.]
Edgar was regret: [I'm really not a good person. I've let Nolan manage the company alone all these years, working himself to death.]
Jasmine suggested: [Let's keep this from Mom for now. We'll secretly discuss a plan.]
Ethan replied: [Don't worry, honey. I'll find out and ask Nolan's attending doctor without exposing anything. Wait for my news.]
[Okay.]
Sunrise City.
After being discharged from the hospital, Amelia sat in the desolate yard, lost in thought.
Nolan actually agreed to come to Sunrise City for a year without a penny.
It's been a week, and he still hasn't come. He must have changed his mind, right?
"Miss Carter, the police have processed the results. They'll compensate us for our losses," Silas walked in and said softly.
Amelia quickly stood up. "Thank you."
Silas quickly waved his hand. "You're welcome."
As Nolan's future wife, he couldn't afford to let her be so polite to him.
Amelia wiped her tears. "You haven't eaten yet, right? I'll cook. You've been troubled these days. If there's nothing else, you can go back tomorrow."
Silas quickly spoke. "No, Mr. Cunningham asked me to wait for him."
"Silas." Outside the door, Nolan, dressed in casual clothes and carrying a suitcase, walked in. "You can go back now."
It seemed he really came without any money.
Silas looked at Nolan in shock. "Mr. Cunningham."
"Edward is managing the company now. Go back and help him. If you need anything, call me anytime." Nolan patted Silas on the shoulder.
Silas quickly ran off, he couldn't delay Nolan from pursuing Amelia.
"I used the last of my money to take a cab," Nolan walked up to Amelia, took out his pockets, and placed his phone in front of her. "All my cards are frozen. If you don't believe me..."
"Nolan," Amelia looked at him. "What are you trying to do?"
"I am making it up to you," Nolan said seriously, "We can go get the marriage license now."
Amelia laughed self-deprecatingly. "Nolan, you don't have a penny. Why should I marry you? "
Nolan was stunned, his Adam's apple bobbing. It was clear Amelia was deliberately making things difficult for him. "How much do you need?"
"Two hundred and eight thousand eight hundred dollars, not a penny less," Amelia said casually, intentionally making it difficult for Nolan.
Nolan thought for a moment. Two hundred and eight thousand eight hundred dollars used to be like 2.8 dollars to him, but now he really couldn't come up with it.
"Can you lend me ten thousand dollars as startup capital?" Nolan asked, a bit embarrassed.
Amelia looked at Nolan suspiciously. "Am I supposed to shell out money as well? I let you stay at my place to earn your keep by helping out, and now you're trying to scam money out of me."
Nolan looked away. "I'll earn enough money."
Amelia rolled her eyes and handed Nolan a card. "From now on, I'm the one with the money. You better not have too many problems."
She mimicked Nolan's previous tone. "This card has ten thousand dollars. Pay it back with interest."
Nolan nodded.
"Also, I'm a clean freak. You better not bring any messy things in here," Amelia said, patting the table.
These were words Nolan had said before.
He was stunned for a moment, lowering his eyes. Now he regretted it.
If he had known this would happen, he wouldn't have burned his bridges.
"Also, my cat is coming back soon. I don't have any extra rooms here, so you'll have to stay with the cat," Amelia said, knowing Nolan had a cleanliness obsession and hated shedding animals, but still deliberately making him stay with the cat.
Just to give him a hard time.
Nolan took a deep breath and nodded. "Okay."
Amelia frowned, thinking Nolan had lost his mind.
What was he after?
He must be crazy.
"Nolan, you..." Amelia wanted to say something harsh, but the words stuck in her throat. "Never mind, do whatever you want."
Nolan took the ten thousand dollars and left.
Who knew how he could turn ten thousand dollars into three hundred thousand dollars in a short time?
Amelia didn't believe Nolan had that ability.
She just wanted to make him give up.
He would leave eventually.
