Chapter 541 Different Opinions

Fiona couldn't change her past. If her existence hurt the family, she felt she shouldn't be here.

"Enough!" Cordelia slammed the table, sending dishes flying.

Her anger, long suppressed, finally erupted.

But she quickly calmed herself, like a volcano cooling down.

As a mom, she had to stay rational.

Taking a deep breath, Cordelia's eyes were red.

She spoke softly, "Fiona, I'm not blaming you. I've endured for years; I just want answers. I need Willian to explain."

Willian sat silently, his fingers cold. He looked at Cordelia, tried to speak, but lowered his head. He was the cause of her pain.

"Willian, I need an explanation." Cordelia demanded, holding back tears.

Willian kept his head down, unable to explain. He felt guilty and powerless.

"I... I didn't expect she was that bad," he said hoarsely.

Willian felt like a victim too; Sophia was the real culprit.

"Do you think 'I didn't expect' can make up for my years of pain?" Cordelia sneered, looking away.

Her stubbornness and strength were heartbreaking.

Jasmine choked out, "Mom," stood up, and hugged Cordelia. "Go rest in the room."

She didn't want her mom to face this anymore.

Cordelia closed her eyes, tears burning. She patted her daughter and took a deep breath. "Ethan, take Jasmine and the kids home."

She didn't want to complain in front of the kids or reopen old wounds.

"I'm sorry," Fiona said, head down, not knowing what else to say.

She wanted to escape but didn't dare. She even wished Cordelia would hit her, scold her, tell her to leave—anything was better than this.

"This isn't your fault," Cordelia said, shaking her head. She looked at Nolan. "Nolan, take Fiona and go."

She didn't want her sons to argue and create rifts.

"This paternity test must be done," Edward insisted, frowning.

Nolan glared at Edward and punched him. "That's enough!"

Edward punched back. "Stop acting righteous. Fiona and Willian must take the test! Sophia must pay! This evidence is crucial!"

"Don't even think about it!" Nolan threatened. "I won't let you take her for a test. She's not anyone's daughter; she's herself!"

Edgar, who had been quiet, stood up and looked at Nolan. "I think a test should be done to give Mom and Jasmine answers."

Nolan looked at Edgar angrily. "You're siding with him too!"

Nolan felt like no one in the family truly cared about Fiona.

But he had promised Fiona he'd always be her brother and never abandon her.

"I will always stand with my family," Edgar said, looking at Fiona apologetically. "I'm sorry."

In this matter, he had no choice.

"Edgar!" Nolan was furious, his fingers trembling. "Fiona is family too."

"I'm sorry," Edgar said, lowering his head. "I see her as family, but we need a resolution."

"Fine," Nolan said, leading a nearly catatonic Fiona away. "From now on, Fiona has nothing to do with the Cunningham family. She won't take any paternity test."

If no one else saw Fiona as family, he'd take care of her himself.

"Nolan," Fiona finally spoke, her eyes red.

"It's okay," Nolan said, opening the car door for her.

Seeing her trembling, he turned on the heater. "Don't be afraid; I'll never abandon you."

Fiona shook her head, curling up and hugging herself, crying. "I can take the paternity test."

"No, you don't need to! You're not Sophia's daughter. You don't need to take it," Nolan insisted.

Fiona clenched her hands, crying. "Nolan, I only have you."

It felt like she had lost everything.

Even if she avoided the test, it wouldn't change the truth.

She knew Nolan meant well, but she couldn't be selfish.

She owed her aunt and Jasmine an explanation.

If her existence was part of Sophia's scheme, she had to help Cordelia expose it.

She couldn't hide away.

Amelia was curled up at Nolan's doorstep, wearing only a thin dress and shivering.

It was freezing.

Her fingers were numb, and her body was burning up.

She seemed to have a fever.

Her head was spinning.

She had forgotten her phone and had nothing with her. She didn't dare leave, fearing she wouldn't get back in.

She'd have to beg Nolan to let her dad and her family go.

"Nolan," she weakly called out, probably due to the fever.

When Nolan returned with Fiona, Amelia was still curled up at the door.

Seeing Nolan, Amelia thought she was hallucinating. She rubbed her eyes and saw he was really there.

Fiona looked sick, pale, and drowsy in Nolan's arms. He was carrying her back.

Amelia nervously stood up but lost her balance and fell, her head spinning.

Nolan frowned at Amelia, feeling irritated.

"Nolan, I..." Amelia tried to explain why she was there.

But Nolan was in a hurry to find a doctor and had no time for her.

"Don't get in the way. Get lost," Nolan snapped.

Amelia stood awkwardly, not knowing what to do.

Clenching her fingers, she lowered her head, tears falling onto her hand.

Nolan was very worried about Fiona. He was so good to her, washing towels, applying ice packs, calling the doctor, and cooking for her.

Amelia stood at the door, not daring to go in. Even though Nolan hadn't closed it, she didn't dare enter.

By the time the doctor arrived, Amelia couldn't hold on any longer and collapsed outside.

Seeing her in bad shape, the doctor asked, "She..."

"The patient is here! Do we have to take care of the beggar outside, too?" Nolan snapped.

The doctor quickly went inside, closing the door behind him.

Amelia looked at the closed door, numbly getting up.

If she stayed like a beggar, it would be too humiliating.

She should leave.
